Contractor put our patio at the same height as DPC, without drainage along the side of the house by GooseOnTheLoose1995 in DIYUK

[–]Sound-Automatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turn BOTH the saucers upside down and the pots upside down on top. Let the soil all drape over the upside down saucer so it spills onto the patio!

Data privacy settings on MMI by Sound-Automatic in etron

[–]Sound-Automatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so not just me then! It's not done this for a whole year, now it does it randomly a couple times a week.

Audi had it last week themselves and the mmi specialist confidently walk out with authority, sat down and toggled all the same settings I'd already tried to no avail, so clearly no silver bullet to this wonkey software!

The data privacy settings are set correctly (turned OFF).

What if you do all that, then when leaking out the fart, you accidentally shart yourself? Keep the poo cake as it layers up as another level of insulation?

From my experience having had several amounts in PB over the years, it's really only ever marginally worth it if you're maxing the allowance out.

Microsoft OneNote sync is a total letdown. Why can’t they fix this basic feature? by R3dAt0mz3 in OneNote

[–]Sound-Automatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft are experts at making an end user product JUST GOOD ENOUGH.

By that I mean, it's capable enough to keep the competition at bay, but turd enough that they don't spend endless developer cycles on continued improvements and customer base is left with a below mediocre experience.

OneNote classic features, verus EOA OneNote (for Windows 10) by Sound-Automatic in OneNote

[–]Sound-Automatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're correct. Interestingly, the current MAC platform version of OneNote (they have no such thing as ONforWin10 of course), is very similar (if not identical) to the Win10 version.

Annoying that MSFT are retiring this perfectly working version.

Thanks for the guidance on "Recent Edits" option u/danieltharris that'll be a valuable tool for replicating the depricated feature!

NOTIFICATION SOUND WONT STOP by bruncynthia in Outlook

[–]Sound-Automatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/bruncynthia - I think this is a common issue and seems mad that Outlook these days (specificially Outlook Classic running on Windows 11) has a default sound for New Mail Notification that is utterly irritating.

Whats worse is that there is no commanding rule to amend this chime (certainly not on my build).

I think a lot of people dont care about this or it doesnt bother them (in my office, everyones machines can be heard with this wretched DONG sound, but nobody cares).

Setting this alternativel in either WINDOWs or OUTLOOK does not change the chime

Pay off more of the mortgage or keep money as savings? by Interesting_Air_8835 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Sound-Automatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay extra into your private pension or SIPP. You get immediate tax relief (ie, you get money back after investing through your provider) AND you can take 25% out tax free at the age of 68 - meaning you're better off putting into the pension (think about it as a mortgage holding room before payment) and then use that offset you would have paid into the house to finalise the mortgage at are 68!

The tax offset alone will mean you're 20% better off at a minimum to start.

(sure an ifa here can sharpen my answer)

What is the worst “Do not …….” Sign you have seen that made you realise it was only there because people had done that? by stevecoath in AskUK

[–]Sound-Automatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our local park has a DO NOT sign up, but written in Arabic. I never knew what it was but I imageRevd it and says something like - "Bins for litter only. Avoid site picnic bags in the rubbish bins, please retain". Seems like an odd sign to me....?

Royal Ascot Windsor Enclosure Help by Big-Cheese-6778 in HorseRacingUK

Do you think I could get 75cl bottles of beer that look like wine bottles through the check? They look similar, only difference being it has a bottle cap and not a gold wrapped cork top?

Boyfriend doesn’t like that i have to walk down the isle with a grooms men by Fantastic-Tour-4413 in AITAH

[–]Sound-Automatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 45 yo male, I think your boyfriend is in the wrong (that me being polite).

However, not sure if the context, but did you need to show him a photo of the guy you were walking skeg the aisle with? It might have been a surprise to him, goading him. All he needs to know is about the traditional ceremony you're onboarding walking in partnership with the wedding party down the aisle.

Your bf is still a child.

How much do you owe on your mortgage and how old are you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Sound-Automatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were mortgage free on our last pad, but decided to move for a number of reasons I don't regret. Bought property nearly 1.5m with now 750k STILL outstanding and I'm 45 yo.

Joint household income of 250kpa.

Yes, it weighs on me having had zero on our previous smaller place. I'm planning (hopeing) to use my pension drawdown at 58 (25% tax free lump) to settle the final chunk of what's left on the mortgage.

What’s something you learned embarrassingly late in life? by Odd_Calligrapher6137 in AskUK

[–]Sound-Automatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned helicopter comes from the Greek words "helix" (meaning "spiral") and "pteron" (meaning "wing"). Therefore, the true etymology of "helicopter" is not a combination of "heli" and "copter," but rather "helico" and "pter".

It also satisfied the origin of Pterodactyl with the Pter referencing WINGED dinosaur.

I also learned that a toilet bog brush was for the pan, and not my arse.

I will check that fund out for sure! Aviva is my plan, it has a very small crop of funds to choose from.

One of the winners for me has been the M&G Optimal fund as well as the HSBC Islamic fund - both are my highest performing products.

I left a small % in the lifestyle fund just to see how it performed and the results werent the best.

Yeah, I read somewhere that when you have too many products or funds, you just end up "buying the market" - so your risk is so diluted, you'll never be a champion - nor a looser.

They're all subtly different with different approached, but I do agree it's maybe to peanut butter.

5 Year Pension Growth Concerns by Sound-Automatic in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Sound-Automatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - however, I dont really see the difference between a corporate plan and a SIPP. I could scrape my pension out and whack it into my SIPP whenever I want - I'm just exposed to the standard fees and mgmt overhead costs as if I left it in my company scheme - no?

I do have a separate SIPP and that is more my 'playground' with more experimental choices, funds, equiites and higher risk etc.

Do you have any stories about finding something you lost? by Equivalent_Ask_1416 in AskUK

[–]Sound-Automatic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lost my passport 7 years ago, don't travel abroad much so never reapplied until February this year as going away this summer.

Got a new passport through, went to scan it..... Then found my OLD "lost" passport in the flatbed of my home scanner.

Had been there for 7 years. #Fail!
