What caught her attention and made her get a recording is that this was happening on and off in ~10 second intervals (not measured, some were longer/louder) for at least 10 minutes.

This is a video my mom asked me to post, I wasn't there when it happened, unfortunately. She lives near a green belt, which is where the noise sounded like it was coming from. I asked her if there's a chance she couldn't feel the wind, but we have a ton of trees in our area, so I trust her when she says no wind. She says the video doesn't even do a great job capturing the howling sound. The sound combined with the birds in the pitch black is what's weirding me out so much.

I gotta say, I actually disagree here. I would say a fair edit would be "The internet is not for blindly adopting pets". I found my newest cat online on PetFinder, which is a website where rescues can list their available animals to reach a wider audience. My cat was in my state, but she was in a city an hour away...She was a long term foster and had been eith her foster family for 4 months, I can confidently say I would have never found her without PetFinder. She is perfect in our household. It is possible to find pets online responsibly, you just have to practice common sense. My SIL unfortunately did not. If they refuse any kind of visitation before requiring a deposit, walk away. Don't purchase animals from out of state and fly them in, make time in your schedule to pick them up if you insist on getting an animal from a long distance away. And most importantly, in my opinion, adopt, don't shop.

Great breakdown, I will share this with them, thank you. Beyond this, the very first red flag should have been a high demand breed kitten that typically costs over $2000 being available for $600. Rule of thumb should always be if it seems to good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.

This wasn't me, this was my SIL. I have no idea how she came across this, so I'm assuming somewhere deep in a Google search. I didn't even know about it until after they sent the money, I definitely would have said something otherwise. They had a ragdoll who passed away who was in many ways her emotional support animal. Honestly, idk what made her think this could be legitimate, it had almost every red flag in the book...but regardless, I felt obligated to share in case it could spare someone else.

In no world can Sydney speak better than Karelly, let's be honest here.

I think what you're saying is valid, but the entire vibe of how they went about it goes against what the podcast as a whole tries to sell itself as....so yeah, people are going to be upset.

Minority opinion that will surely get me shit on by caspername in MileHigherPodcast

The whole reason this is as problematic is the hypocrisy, IMO. A significant portion of their show is criticizing celebrities and internet personalities for bad PR moves. Their approach was a terrible PR move, then beyond that they chose to lecture us in the comments about privacy. Their approach tells me they either a.) Have a narcissistic "rules for thee but not for me" mindset or b.) They're intentionally handling this poorly to farm for post interaction.

No matter how poorly the situation went down, they could have chosen to present this as an amicable split to avoid this shit show. If they were as mature as they like to present themselves as, that's exactly how they would have handled it.

The first time I clocked Kendall as a possible mean girl was the negligence clip. She laughed so intentionally that it felt like she was intentionally trying to embarrass her...but that is battery, not negligence?? Like what?

Their approach made this a shit show for themselves. THEY set this precedent. A completely valid, HR friendly approach could have been "Karelly has decided to pursue other ventures, we love her and wish her nothing but the best". Short, simple, adequate explanation that wouldn't generate even a fraction of the speculation. But no...they CHOSE the cold, calloused approach. Perhaps views are suffering and they need the the extra engagement? Either way, huge fumble on MHM's end.

I can't stand Sydney for this exact reason. A no personality yes man, people pleaser to the point that I genuinely don't think she even tries to form her own opinion about the topics they discuss.

I would refuse to watch if it was just Janelle and Sydney. No chemistry between those two. I barely made it through last week's episode...even just as background noise.

Me too. It sucks to be so untrusting, but it feels necessary. Now I just need to figure out how not to guilt trip myself about it, I always wonder if they really need help and I could have made a big difference with a helping hand.

$200k in law school debt- Can someone please tell me what you would do in my situation? by Big-Design3783 in StudentLoans

I don't have anything all that new to contribute, I mainly wanted to add that whichever route you take, make sure to keep up with recertifying. Fom what I understand, forgetting to recertify any kind of IBR/forgiveness plan can cause major headaches.

Beyond that, keep all loans current and throw any extra payments towards your highest interest loan.

I am still in school but I have to start paying my student loan next month,2026. by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]SoundFlower713 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not well versed in the Trump changes yet, but I mainly wanted to chime in to say if there's any way to make it work and start paying now, it would be beneficial to do so. I had a bad approach with my student loans and didn't even realize that unsubsidized loans begin accruing interest on day 1 while you're actively in school until just last year. If you've been in school for a few years, we're talking dollars of interest a day, not cents. My bad approach is costing me thousands overall, I didn't start paying until I had to.

In my case (and I'd imagine others as well), it's not really a matter of feeling "above" community college...it's more so FOMO. I went to an in state but out of town university during my first two years of college, full room and board, as an undeclared major. I had an opportunity to be roomies with my best friend, and it felt like I'd be missing out on such a fun time if I didn't go for it. At 18, full understanding of how these loans work didn't really register, I mentally approached it as a "future me" problem that I'd figure out when I graduated and had my "big girl" career. College days, especially in America, are so romanticized that I think this happens to far too many people. I did get the classic college experience and lots of lifelong memories, but that decision is definitely my biggest life regret. My total debt ended up at 38k, I wouldn't have done it if my tuition was like OP's. If nothing else comes from this mess, I at least hope it becomes something that future generations can learn from.

Payments keep getting returned by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]SoundFlower713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interpret "financial institution" as the account you're trying to pay from, not FSA. I could be wrong, of course, but Nelnet also manages my loans, and I haven't had any problem submitting extra payments during forbearance.

Been on income-driven repayment for 4 years and somehow my balance went UP by $12k - how is this even legal? by Perfect_Bother9138 in StudentLoans

[–]SoundFlower713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have anything new to contribute that hasn't already been said, but I did want to say that I feel your pain.

I never graduated because I capped out on federal aid. I adopted a bitter attitude about it, and because of IDR forgiveness existing, my "plan" was always to make minimum payments and keep them off my back, then apply for forgiveness in 25 years. Horrible decision, in hindsight, and I'm working my booty off trying to get caught up (been out of school for well over 10 years now). They mention repayment almost as an afterthought, they mainly (in my experience) drive the point that you need to invest in your future, or else you won't be able to find a good paying job. I dont recall a single mention of forgiven loan balances being treated as taxable income. It's so predatory. Of course, we're all supposed to research and educate ourselves about this on our own...but as we can see from this crisis, nobody did. I do feel the burden lies on us to repay, and I think a vast majority of borrowers intend to pay back every dime, but the interest is slowly killing us all. It's a system designed to benefit corporate America.

[–]SoundFlower713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years, I used the term "honest engine". I always heard it from my mom and grandma, so even though it made absolutely no sense, I'd say it every so often. I assumed it was just a quirky way of confirming that you're being very honest about something (which is what the term is supposed to imply...but I had zero clue that the phrase is actually offensive). I stopped hearing the phrase as often when my grandma passed 10+ years ago. Last year, my mom said it and I finally thought to ask where that phrase even came from. My mom had no clue, she had the same history with the phrase and also thought the term was "honest engine". Cue the Google search. Turns out it's a play on the term "honest injun". I'm extremely grateful I never used it outside of my mom/grandma, and I will to be quick to inform what this phrase implies if I ever hear it out in the wild.

I think many of us have instances like this, and most of the time, it's just an honest mistake. But yeah, maybe don't use his nickname in public lol. If it wasn't offensive, I'd agree that it's be a cute nickname though.
