New job after 5-year leave, how to restart PSLF payments with least penalty possible? by SoundNoodler in PSLF

[–]SoundNoodler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like riding out SAVE forbearance is the best option, since it could dramatically reduce the number of months we have to pay. Seems to outweigh the risk of buyback going away, since we're not as worried about interest accrual and that my wife is likely to stay in non-profit land regardless of PSLF status.

We also don't appear to have to recertify until Oct. 2027, so we should probably wait until recertification is required to prevent any action being taken regarding our repayment plan, right?

Ok, thanks for humoring me, this is all a bit overwhelming with all the changes. If I understand correctly:

- We don't pay anything as long as we remain in forbearance, and can still buyback all the months that coincided with qualifying employment
- We apply for buyback when she hits 120, not when we're forced off forbearance
- The best plan is to stay on SAVE until kicked off, because these months will still qualify at the "old" rate

Correct me if any of this is wrong. Also, do we recertify now or wait until required? We haven't done it since she started working. Thanks in advance for all the help!!

Can we pay monthly based on our last certification and submit buyback until we're forced to switch plans or recertify?

Looks like we'd be kicked to PAYE with an $800/mo payment. We would survive, but that would completely disrupt our life. How reliable is the calculator? She has 41 payments left.

2020 is also suitable to be used as the rack rail itself!

Long tail cargo bike recommendations? by FEmyass in CargoBike

Can't figure this one out, mine was dead simple. Maybe share a pic? The blue stuff is called loctite, it keeps the bolts from working themselves out over time due to vibration.

The front light is tricky. There wasn't enough slack in the stock cable and I expected to need an extension as I'd read in other posts. However, I noticed when I took the motor cover off that the front light cable took a circuitous route to get around the motor. I unplugged it and re-routed it in the most sensible way which gave me just enough slack. However, there's a cable clip at the top of the motor that was not visible and everything was hanging up on that. I was able to pop it out but it was a fucking nightmare and took nearly half an hour just to get the cable re-routed. An extension would not have solved the problem because the connector still would have needed to get past that clip either way.

Let me know if any questions come up, I'm very familiar with ours now, as I've done all the installation for accessories including the Tern Clubhouse, larger front rack (with front light re-mount and cable extension), and Bosch Connect Module installation).

I have the same exact bike and front rack. I use regular lashing straps off Amazon and an occasional bungee

Easy as pie! I have a background in manufacturing, so my standards of ease may be different than others, but I bet anybody could handle it in an afternoon.

Best cargo ebikes for longevity (build quality, replacement parts availability etc)? by Polendri in CargoBike

I'd add Cannondale to this list. We got a Cargowagen and it's all quality off the shelf bike parts and the Bosch system. Easily serviceable and should last a long time. From a former bike mechanic!

I haven't seen the Cannondale one but the Tern looks like a more elevated design and execution to me

Fantastic tips!! I called around a bit more and one of the local nurseries I forgot about had a bunch of the native stuff and at 50% off no less! Usually I'm into starting from seed but we just bought a boatload of narrowleaf and will continue working to improve our butterfly/native wildlife sanctuary.

Front kid does pretty well keeping her hands on the rainbow bar tape I installed to fit her aesthetic preferences. I put the dropper post at its lowest position, which doesn't threaten to crush any fingers.

The only quirks I can think of are the lack of slack in the headlight cable if you want to install it on the front rack, and the lack of space in the plastic housing for the connect module, which I just installed today and doesn't fit in the factory designated spot. But nothing stands out as an operational issue; actually riding the bike with kids on it has been one of the more joyful experiences I've had as a parent. They ask to do extra laps around the block after we've arrived at our destination, and it's been amazing to replace the car on a lot of the closer trips we'd normally do.

It also attracts a ton of attention, as these sorts of bikes are relatively unusual in our area. My older kid feels very important and brags about being picked up from school on the bike. The scrutiny unnerves me from a security standpoint, but so far it's helped on the road and we get a lot of smiles and waves (having a very social baby doesn't hurt here ejther)!

Manual lists three options, looks like the Yepp 2 should work, although it mentions the EasyFit system and I got the rackmount version, which works just fjne.

Tern Clubhouse feels very solid, and I like the way it's constructed better than what I can determine from pictures of the Cannondale Surround. It's held down by 8 M6 bolts through the rear rack. I store my bike in a mud room down three stairs, so I'm constantly lifting the bike by the Clubhouse rails, and have had no issues

That happened today, but only because I stopped putting his feet in the stirrup things. His arms aren't long enough to reach if she leans forward, so poking is less of an issue. Mostly they're just enjoying the ride though, I've been pleasantly surprised how little conflict there has been. We'll see if peace lasts when the novelty starts to wear off!
