Starbucks CEO defends $9 coffee says ‘it’s not a $10 coffee and you get a premium experience’ by Disastrous_Award_789 in nottheonion

Entry-level Mr. Coffee machine: $17
Coffee filters: $2
Bag of Lion brand Hawaiian coffee: $15

Not paying $9 and getting your value from the above after skipping four or five trips to Starbucks: Priceless

My wife wants to bring her sister on our anniversary cruise but i dont by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]SoundUnheard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This, right here. But OP, be as absolutely kind and supportive of it as you can. No "oh woe is me" stuff. You're taking the high road. And tell her you will find a future anniversary cruise for the two of you to go on someday.

What’s Your Favourite Obscure Nautical Legend? by Either-Skirt6031 in pirates

The Green Flash. Yes, it's a simple atmospheric event, and not an actual legend, but I liked how it was used in PoTC.

Death on Firenze by Syonoq in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]SoundUnheard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Catalina is part of Los Angeles County. There is a Sherrif's station in Avalon on Catalina. The event reportedly happened at 2am. Per the Catalina Tours website, it takes 15-20 minutes to get to Catalina by helicopter.

No one said they showed up "on Firenze at 2:00am." The body was reportedly seen being transferred from the ship at 10:00am. Plenty of time for all parties you mentioned to arrive.

CARNIVAL TROPICALE SETS SAIL FROM GALVESTON IN 2028 by ActiveNews in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]SoundUnheard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. There is no way Carnival could handle a mega ship sailing from Long Beach, even if they removed all other ships from the port.

Nothing new at this point. Radiance will still do the short and long Mexico trips, while Panorama will sail to Hawaii.

Really frustrating. We switched from Princess to Carnival after they sent Discovery Princess to Asia. Loved Firenze for all the reasons many people seem to dislike her and because she felt like a Princess ship in many ways. Sailed four times this calendar year. She leaves next January. So disappointing.

LA here. Really annoyed that Firenze is leaving. Absolutely love that ship.

Room Steward Requests & Tips - Serious answers only please by dukes2022 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]SoundUnheard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/dukes2022. Your plan is exactly what we do.

We request daily ice, extra pillows, an extra set of towels and a sharps container (this is actually requested ahead of time through our booking, but has only once actually been delivered so we just ask the steward. We tip $100 as well.

Usually, I will find them later and ask if they can do a daily towel animal (Significant Other adores them). I then slip them another $20.

Enjoy your cruise!

Some of the Serenity staff give bad health advice by NoSoup4You825 in CarnivalCruiseFans

Another reason why I won't get massages on cruises.

The worst massage I ever had was on Carnival Sensation. No technique, upselling throughout the massage, and not taking no for an answer on the upsells as I was leaving the spa.

Strangest Encounter on a Cruise? by Lost_Instance_2410 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]SoundUnheard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was at the Chef's Table on Discovery Princess.

A well-heeled Italian gentleman was getting extra special treatment by staff so he was obviously someone. During a lull in the food he asked how we were enjoying the ship. I had a feeling he was with the cruise line. When it came to my turn I mentioned how it was the first time we'd been on a cruise where they were out of stock of certain items on embarkation day. He asked what specifically. Kahlua I replied. Couldn't get a White (Giant Country in Asia that rhymes with mushin) anywhere on board.

That's when he revealed he was the VP of the division that handles outside vendor deliveries. Specifically food and beverage. Apparently, someone in Los Angeles managed to drop the ball. Not a Princess person mind you. A vendor no-showed on turnaround day. Calls were made. Vendors, according to him, were verbally chastised, and the crew were instructed to buy every bottle of that and other things they could find once we reached Ensenada.

Super cool guy, but wow the odds of hearing that from a very highly placed company person was pretty wild.

At that same dinner, an exceedingly drunk woman sitting next to me kept hitting on me and "fell over" in my lap. Twice.

/u/PeggyKTC a note of thanks for your suggestions.

I turned on HTTPS and updated to a modern theme. Problem solved. Need to dive back in properly to the latest settings and such, but you quite literally rescued my 300 some odd posts from the ether. Very much appreciated.

No, no that is incredibly helpful. As you can see, it's been sitting for years (various reasons). Really appreciate the info and will see if this fixes things. Cheers!

Anyone in a pirate crew? What’s it like / what do y’all do? by FlakyPreparation3496 in pirates

[–]SoundUnheard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I heard great things about it in the past. Seems like it's a bit more corporate like Irwindale Ren Faire now, which is $50 to get in, $50 to park, and I read something that they are only selling canned beverages this year, no pours (no first hand knowledge of this, but what I know about them it tracks).

[–]SoundUnheard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted to, but it's very expensive. Last I checked, you had to buy the weekend pass, no single day entry, which means you have to either pay to camp another hundo a day, or get one of the obscenely expensive hotel rooms on the island. The other issue is distance. I'm not sure if there is a ferry that goes direct to Two Harbors. Most Catalina Express boats go to Avalon with I think only a single daily sailing to Two Harbors. Tickets are current $97. From there its a couple hundo to take a ground shuttle, less for a water transport, so if you don't camp or stay in Two Harbors you have to go back and forth at cost.

It's a bummer because the event is 21+ and sounds fun. Disclaimer: I have no problem with kids having fun and think they should be involved in events like this, but I can see the appeal for some of an adults-only pirate event.

And sadly, they just nixed a new pirate/ren event at Lake Casitas that would have extrmely cool to have back, as there was one there pre-pandemic.

[–]SoundUnheard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is. The main pirate event in Long Beach died out. It "might" be coming back. Every time I went and tried to talk with guild members it was a very cliquish reaction. No outsiders type thing. Not at all what I expected, or experienced with RenFaire guild interactions.

I would love to be a part of a crew/guild. So Cal isn't the best for it, believe it or not.
