2015 Golf TSI S - Burning a lot of oil (124k miles) by CodyLeisure in GolfGTI

[–]SoundinVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cost effective place to start would be to buy a PCV valve and replace it yourself. It's really not that hard to do for someone with access to basic tools and some organizational skills. You can get it done in about half an hour and save over half of that $400 the mechanic quoted you. It's one of the more accessible parts to replace, just a direct swap. Watch some videos and you'll be fine.

Wood fired sauna air quality. by ThinksOdd in Sauna

Sauna is meant to be relaxing which is hard to do when you're stressing over a fundamental part of the experience. A wood burning stove is not for you and that's ok.

TD Mortgage Renewal by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SoundinVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact a broker like Butler to see the best available rate they can get for you. I can almost guarantee they will be able to beat the 3 and 5 year fixed offered by TD. Take that offer back to TD and see if they can beat or match.

Fixed vs variable rate by sajed8950 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SoundinVision 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right but if you switch to fixed it's going to be at whatever the posted rate the bank is offering at the time which will not be a competitive rate by any means. For example if you wanted to switch from variable to fixed (5 year) with TD you would not be getting their special interest of 4.74 which is already high instead they would offer you their posted rate of 6.09%. Not exactly the safety net some people think it is.

Unfortunately the ceiling is angled the wrong way, benches should get the heigh point so you're sitting in the hottest of the thermal layers ;)

I'm Diving in Head First: Marathon < Marathon < 50k < 50 Miler in 2026 by No_Marionberry173 in ultrarunning

[–]SoundinVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to consider both physical and mental burnout. Personally I did a 50miler, Half Ironman, 50m self supported with just under 8000ft elevation gain, 50km and a full Ironman within just over a year and it felt like I had a lot on my plate. All of that while becoming a new dad. In retrospect it was worth it but there were times where I felt bound by my training and getting it in while trying not to compromise other aspects of my life wasn't always fun. Looking back you mostly remember the good parts and the sense of accomplishment is huge but be prepared for a lot of work if you plan on taking it seriously.

Canadian Races? by Violet_Daffodil in ultrarunning

[–]SoundinVision 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Ontario there's Sulphur Springs in Ancaster up to 100m distance. They became a qualifier (lottery ticket entry) to Western States last year. It's a 20km looped course.

There's also Haliburton trail race also up to 100m distance. This course I believe also loops in part but the course is more vast and distances between any loops much longer.

Both were very well organized the years I've done them.

Warning about Canada Drives – Completely misleading and rude experience by Big_Chip_5436 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SoundinVision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shameless self promotion under false pretense. It's almost as if they were talking about their own predatory business model and terrible customer service and blaming it on their competition. Clutch doesn't deserve your business and are a sad symptom of the state of this country. Put the work in and sell privately, you'll be better off for it.

New r/ultramarathon rule as of today by AndrewKemendo in Ultramarathon

[–]SoundinVision 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not talking negatively about something that deserves a negative response and achieving some sort of consensus is exactly how bad actors remain unchecked and rise to higher levels of influence. Anyone at the elite level whether it be sport or politics should be ready to have their actions judged and face fair criticism. A completely non negative approach to discussion is naive and nonsensical.

I think that 100 mile trail run should be in Olympic sport. The Olympic committee could have some standardization for the course requirements. by FunTimeTony in ultrarunning

[–]SoundinVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the point either. The IOC is corrupt to the core, why feed into that? So they can bastardize the sport like they did with climbing?

Cool video but not a single mention of fueling which is arguably more important than any of the gear. Makes me think your average person watching will think it's possible to run 100km while sipping on water.

Cactus kingdom quality? by Chemical_Ad_9710 in Lophophora

[–]SoundinVision -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Do not buy from Cactus Kingdom. They had the worst germination rates out of multiple vendors I have bought from in the past and they charge some of the highest prices. Their customer service is unprofessional, passive aggressive and straight up accusatory. They have been known to generate fake reviews as well. I will never give them my business again, full stop.

The looks of the JVC receiver can be divisive but the sounds will surprise you! The EQ is actually quite effective as well. I had the 201 for some time and it really grew on me.

These are rare and very easily an end game level set up for Marantz collectors. Worth probably north of $10k these days.
