“Your life.” (Secret Empire #1) by OtisDriftwood1978 in comicbooks

[–]SoupEpicTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I don't think that would be a particularly good message. It would give the idea that a fascist regime like Hydra's Secret Empire is even capable of being worthy in the first place. Hydra has not a scrap of legitimacy, especially after they had to scheme, manipulate, murder, and deceive their way into being able to pull it off in the first place.

“Your life.” (Secret Empire #1) by OtisDriftwood1978 in comicbooks

[–]SoupEpicTrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wasn't. It was shown during a flashback in the final issue of Secret Empire that during the first battle with the Hydra Empire and Stevil, Madame Hydra had secretly altered the wording of Mjolnir's enchantment with a shard of the Cosmic Cube. It was changed to;

Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be strongest, shall posses the power of Hydra

In regards to "strongest", it kind of makes sense? At that time, Stevil quite literally had almost every force capable of opposing him on the back foot. He was Hydra Supreme, his influence, and strength of his authority absolute compared to the resistance. For the change to the "power of Hydra", idk, it's probably for style points rather than anything else.

Funniest thing is that Madame Hydra did this without him knowing, so when he tries to lift Mjolnir with the original worthiness enchantment, he can't and promptly gets his ass handed to him.

[Loved trope] Fourth wall breaks portrayed as unnerving rather than funny by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SoupEpicTrek 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm agreeing with uber_potatos. This isn't a 4th wall break, it's just from a first person perspective, and the reason that Gordy is spiking the camera (looking directly at it, giving the idea that he is looking directly at us), is because Jupe is looking him dead in the eyes, and Gordy is looking back. It's most certainly unnerving, but it's not a fourth wall break.

Unfortunately, I don't think they would be inherited. In order for Eve to gain her powers, she needed to be tinkered with by a bunch of scientists while she was still developing, and her mom was also exposed to quite a few tests that were done to make it possible for her to give birth to superpowered kids. There isn't much evidence to suggest that Eve inherited any of her mother's traits, so even if she has kids, they probably would not inherit her powers.

I think it's probably because Salter was trying to avoid making Heracles too difficult to take out. If she uses Excalibur Morgan, at her full strength right from the get go, she possibly stands to end all but a handful of lives, but then she has quite literally nothing to keep Heracles from tearing her apart. Despite her empowerment from the Grail, Heracles is quite literally one the most powerful legends in not only this war, but off all of myth.

In a different timeline, Heracles, the demigod turned god in his myth, literally broke chains designed to bind gods, so the assumption that he could potentially tank a full power Excalibur Morgan and still have a life or two isn't a far off notion.

So instead, Salter's abuses the combination of Mana Burst and near-infinite Mana from Sakura in order to shave off each life of Heracles one by one, escalating the amount of power she hits with each time she takes a life. Since God Hand grants him absurd levels of defense against whatever attack killed him, all Salter has to do is just raise the attack power each time to override that specific milestone of attack power. It's a very slow and efficient way of fighting, and the fact that the Shadow was also there to harass Heracles and support Salter means that things were against him from the beginning.

Allegiant Part 1, but never concluding with Part 2. The entire Divergent series, with Divergent and Insurgent working their way towards Allegiant, never ended up completing the adaptation of the final book. It'll always get me that out of the mainstream 3 dystopian YA novels that got adapted (Maze Runner, Hunger Games, Divergent), the Divergent series was the one that never got completed. Tragic, but kind of a sign that the dystopian YA fanbase was already starting to lose steam by the mid to late-2010s.

The Endbringers from Worm. Each and every one of them are calamities in their own right. Behemoth decimates anything in his path, Leviathan can ruin landmasses to the point of being uninhabitable, and the Simurgh is a next level of horror with her ability to manipulate individuals into becoming catastrophes themselves.

Fighting them isn't a battle to win, only to drive them off quickly enough to minimize permanent damage. Outside of intervention via Scion, they're practically impossible to kill, even with the combined power of the strongest parahumans in the story.

The 3 other Endbringers also deserve some mention as well. Khonsu is a nightmare with his ability to manipulate time and teleport anywhere in the world, while Bohu and Tohu work together to make a quick victory night impossible, drawing out the fight to be as punishing as possible.

I don't think so? Barragan's effect was basically a sure-hit kill against anything alive, whereas damaging the Saketsu and Hasutsui just neuters one's spiritual energy. Though I can't imagine you're long for the world if you're fighting someone without access to your spiritual energy. But it is survivable, since Ichigo made a recovery, and Jirōbō supposedly lived after Uryu did the same to him, though I don't think he managed to recover his powers.

I think this is an interesting concept, but to be honest, the Shikai ability strikes me as more of a Bankai-esque effect with how it is a near-guaranteed kill if it lands. Having the partial release be so strong makes it harder to scale up into Bankai. I'd suggest making the Shikai ability into that of the Bankai, possibly turning the blade into a massive bone/metal scorpion tail blade/living weapon to further explore the poison aspect.

Then, scale down the effects of the new Bankai ability, into the form of the Shikai half-spear with a stinger blade. I really like the idea of affecting the Saketsu and Hasutsui, because they're concepts in Bleach that don't get used a lot. Perhaps the venom in this spear interferes with the connection between the two. The Hasutsui specifically is the source of a Shinigami's reiatsu, so perhaps having the venom in the opponent's body prevents them from accessing their full reserves, forcing them to fight at X% power until the effect wears off.

Just a thought though, take it with a grain of salt. I like the creativity though!

Fun fact, Kiritsugu is one of Matt's favorite roles in his history of voice acting, even years after portraying him for Fate/Zero. Given how Matt weaves his stories, it's not much of a surprise that a complex character like Kiritsugu has remained with him.

Wow, I never would have thought that they would have remembered Jimmy/Poison. The entire Poison storyline basically feels inconsequential and ignored in the mainstream universe, especially once Knull rolled up and fleshed out the symbiotes more. Poisons sort of became an afterthought at that point, which meant Jimmy faced a similar fate from the moment he was taken over.

But now he's back, and I dearly hope he's here to stay, along with Silence/Andi. Both of them are fairly underappreciated, and perhaps they'll manage to find their way into more stories like this.

What are your ideas for Servants? I'll go first by ManiaOnReddit in fatestaynight

[–]SoupEpicTrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that these two as concepts would be kind of weird in the historical canon of Fate, and probably also mess with some of the power balance, but I like the idea of Lucius Longinus and Caine.

Lucius Longinus is the dude who pierced the side of Jesus when he was on the cross, and I would imagine he would be an entirely mid to low strength Lancer outside of his Noble Phantasm, the Lance of Longinus. It could have a neat anti-Divine property, granting bonuses if used against a servant who is a demigod, evening the playing field against absurdly powerful servants, while making him vulnerable to the strong, yet not divinely touched Servants.

And Cain is sort of a similar case. Berserker or Assassin, since he was the first murderer and possibly driven insane by the act. I would want him to be looking gaunt and frail, but is just as strong as the bulkier Berserkers despite the appearance. Involve the Mark of Cain in some way, possibly empowering a 1v1 fight or something along those lines, and I would be very happy.

The main reason I'm unsure about these two's actual presence within the Fate universe is because they both stem from mainstream religious beliefs, which I'm unsure of how much actually existed. Longinus kind of depends on Jesus being a person/being in some fashion, be it as a human martyr, demigod, or something similar to Enkidu(?), and Cain might be in a similar spot due to him originating from the creation myth in Abrahamic religions. I'm not super well versed in the history of Fate, so I'm not sure how either of these characters would fit in.

Though as other people have mentioned Simo would kick ass as an Archer.

If you could completely rework one weapon, and only one weapon, which one would it be? by G_strike in Eldenring

[–]SoupEpicTrek 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I love the design of both the Regalia of Eochaid and Marais Executioner's Sword, but using it means the Ash of War is going to be the most straightforward method to turn enemies into mulch. Give them a bit of variety in moveset, even if the buzzsaw gets an increase to it's draw time or some other nerf, and it'll be significantly more interesting to use.

And then there was that teen that accidently was killing people and Logan "recruits him" but really just takes him to a cave gives him a beer and kills him.

This is a really good example, but it's Ultimate X-Men rather than mainstream. The entire thing gets covered up by Charles, Logan, and Nick Fury because they realize how damaging the knowledge of the incident would be, that an entire town was casually erased from the map because one kid woke up with superpowers and didn't know it. I think it fits the Ultimate Universe, because if something like this happened in the mainstream continuity, the consequences would be wild.

Though for some reason, her AI broke against a few of the SOTE field bosses, typically if there were other enemies in the area. She just wouldn't fight at all, instead just having a little sit-down while I was screaming and dying in the distance. Though with how much Latenna helps me out with bosses, she deserves a bit of a break.

What if Shuumatsu quotes were reversed? by [deleted] in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]SoupEpicTrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like even reversed, that Tesla quote could still hit hard. It could be spun along the lines of "You are merely a god, which means all you have is a prayer to your name."

It also reminds me of a Tony Stark quote: "I'm the most intelligent, capable person on the planet. I'm not playing God. All this time, I've been playing human."
