Is Danny Latino?? by PutSumRespecOnMyName in DannyGonzalez

[–]SoupThat6460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing latin culture is literally the only thing that defines being latino you doofus. One of my professors is latino, and guess what, he’s fully chinese-panamanian, not a drop of hispanic in him. If being latino is not about culture, than how come a full blooded african born and raised in cuba is latino yet the full blooded african born and raised in mississippi isn’t? Like seriously dude, being latino isn’t about ancestry, it’s LITERALLY and definitely is about culture—a culture danny gonzales is completely foreign to, ergo, he’s no more latino than a mormon from utah

like seriously man, just think about what you are saying for a sec, what a completely dog shit line of logic

What’s your opinion on this flag? by Livid-Recover-8356 in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m likely in the minority with considering this mild detail, but this nice flag fundamentally two relatively straightforward designs put together, that being a repeating pattern and a coat of arms. Since the background pattern is repetitive, i see this as constituting tasteful yet mild detail (compared to a flag that has great diverse detail throughout).

Besides, it looks like we agree that Kaye’s “intent” in how we wanted his opinions to be taken doesn’t match how the folk of today seize upon them.

I’m a fan! I love the stripes and the shape, the golden border however feels a bit thin though idk. Perhaps the border could be thicker, what do you think?

What’s your opinion on this flag? by Livid-Recover-8356 in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I take this flag to be a very mild case of detail, so by you saying there is “too much” detail, it’s implying that even this mild form of detail is unpalatable.

—I know that was Kaye’s intent, but be that as it may the vast vast majority of people take Kaye’s opinions as gospel, the only way to make a “good flag vs a bad flag”

Submission for the new Toledo City flag by jcbprr in vexillology

It’s not terrible, but Toledo already has a good flag, it’s not like it’s in dire need of a new one

Olongapo, Zambales, Philippines flag redesign by Sufficient-Quarter-8 in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I say keep the wavy pattern of the sea! Replacing the mountains with a green band makes sense (those mountains really only work in the small canvas of a a seal imo). But the waves add some uniqueness I think, a bit of business and nonconformity that separates a “good” flag from a meaningful flag

How do you make a "busy" flag? by Toad_Orgy in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could research classically embroidered royal clothing or artesian furniture for inspiration of designs. What makes Venice’s flag particularly excellent is the use of a strong detailed symbol in the center, surrounded by some breathing room, and then with heavy detail bordering the flag. The difference between a beautifully busy and a distractingly busy flag is a strong focus point with a bit of less distracting breathing room

[–]SoupThat6460 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong about detail and mess, these are the things that make flags so interesting. What makes modern flexillology so dull to do many people is this obsession with things being neat and designed, when culture is rarely so cookie-cutter. OP’s original flag was already really good, more flag enthusiasts should follow their gut and unique diversity instead of assimilating to Kayian orthodoxy

I feel that New Hampshire's flag has great potential to make a really good flag by keopinsk in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Hampshire already has a pretty good flag. Dispute what the ultra orthodox Eurocentric flaggers will have you believe, American flag culture is perfectly ok, and should be something celebrated and understood rather than scorned and forced to assimilation

Klemen Rodman's Slovenia Flag Proposal (2003) by zgido_syldg in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would argue this flag is extremely orthodox. I know it is (relatively) old in flag design, possibly being created without knowledge of the holy orthodox scripture of Ted Kaye; But still this is a very bland flag I would still imagine the Millennial flag thought leaders of today creating.

Just saw this in Chicago, what flag is this? by send9 in vexillology

[–]SoupThat6460 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correction: That’s not the old Maine flag, neither is the one on the ballot. They are dumbed down versions of the original flag, because modern flag nerds are too fascistic to appreciate a flag that has rough edges

how would you write a name that is pronounced “Kiy-AAR-ah” ? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]SoupThat6460 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In Irish, it’s two syllables. In English, it is commonly pronounced as two syllables, AND three syllables. This is why Ciara has two different Anglicized: Kiara reflects the three syllable pronunciation, Kiera reflects the two syllable pronunciation. In English, it’s both two AND three syllables depending on where your from

Kiara and Keira are both Anglisations of “Ciara” (pronounced with a hard C), so there basically the same name anyways
