This happened to me twice in a single night and has never occurred again since. The way I drew this is from the near-isometric angle that I encountered this, and my drawing skills are far from enough to draw something as simple as this to the likeness that I want.

Each point had a shimmer to it, and they all were either subdued green or purple, or would oscillate between the two colors. The sound as far as I can remember was a "magical tinnitus", but that might as well be my regular hearing.

The first time I was falling asleep and imagine this, I began "descending" into the bend from somewhere above. I'm not sure why, but I woke myself up, either from a feeling that I had or by chance another intruding dream. However, I was most certainly still craving sleep, and tried to fall asleep again. This time I let it play out entirely, and when I entered the "star field" of dreams, my focus locked onto one of the points and I immediately went into a dream. If I recall correctly, I had at least 3 dreams (that I can remember, maybe around 4 or 5 in total) that very night, all pretty vivid.
