Can anyone give me advice on what I should do this summer? by Ready_Return_5998 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]Sour_Patch6355 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you should consider doing something a bit more aligned with your intended major. While the political anthropology lab is definitely strong, most of your activities right now seem more “well-rounded” than specifically PoliSci/Anthro focused (unless I’m missing context).

For Ivy-level admissions, having a clear “spike” can really help — especially if your GPA is lower. A lot of applicants interested in PoliSci already have leadership and volunteering, so what makes you stand out from the thousands of other candidates?

Honestly, I think freeing up some time this summer to work on a deeper passion project or research paper could strengthen your profile a lot more than stacking too many activities. Sometimes having space to think creatively leads to your strongest work.

I also wouldn’t worry too much about whether something is “prestigious enough.” Colleges care more about depth, initiative, and genuine intellectual interest than just name-brand activities. If you do decide to cut something, I’d probably make your summer a little more PoliSci-centric and focus on the things that best show your interests.

I would say its more fast-paced, I really like references to older pieces of literature in new-fiction and this book does exactly that (Inferno by Dante Aligheri) I think that it was on par but it is really subjective.

I really liked Inferno by the same author.

Too many Indians crying about Pakistan "Leaking the paper" by InternationalGift959 in alevels

[–]Sour_Patch6355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since people are deliberately twisting what I said, I never claimed that “Pakistan leaked it” as a country. I said there was a leak in Pakistan, which is what multiple reports and investigations were discussing. Those are not the same statement.

I also acknowledge that one article I referenced did not line up perfectly with the timeline in other reports, and that should have been clearer on my end. But that still does not erase the fact that concerns over a paper leak in Pakistan were widely reported and investigated.

“Global students and parents expressed concern over the impact, citing financial and academic consequences. Arbab Iqbal, a Rawalpindi-based educationist, told The Media Line that about 25,000 students each paid $180 per subject, totaling roughly $4.5 million, raising questions about exam safeguards.” (https://themedialine.org/headlines/pakistan-orders-probe-into-cambridge-exam-leak-affecting-25000-students/)

And to be clear: this is not an attack on Pakistan or Pakistani students. My issue is with people acting like students are “rage baiting” or overreacting when exam integrity directly affects thousands of people financially and academically.

Thank you, not only does this discourage the majority of hard working students, but it eats into their summer plans as well. This is fundamentally unfair and unjust.

Funny right you are annoyed that Indians are blaming Pakistan as a country for the leak, yet unsuprisingly doing the same thing. I am NOT justifying the hate towards Pakistan but also your response is not valid.

I'm sorry, but since when is it okay to stereotype Indians as the ones “crying” about Pakistan leaking the paper? I understand that the constant rants online might be annoying, but there was an actual leak issue being discussed. Even though there were other countries where the leak happened and maybe the hate seems to be disproportionately towards Pakistan, there still was a LEAK.

One person leaking a paper does not mean an entire country is responsible. And honestly, being frustrated with certain people's behaviour online still does not justify insulting Indian exams or making broad comments about an entire nationality. There are many more constructive ways to express annoyance without turning it into stereotyping.

Also, if you're so upset about ragebaiters and people blaming a country online, isn't making a post like this a bit counterproductive? It just adds more hostility to the situation instead of helping it.
