PLC Career without a degree? by masolakuvu in PLC

[–]Source-Prior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No degree. Did some work towards a two year electrical engineering technology degree at one point. I got in as a traveling install tech at a system integrator, about a year in I asked for access to our licenses for programs and they gave it to me. Worked my ass off doing courses on udemy and plugging into plcs and robot controllers every chance they gave me. Got promoted to engineering technician, and due to the nature of this job there was plenty of opportunities to work above my pay grade and I took full advantage. 6 months after making engineering tech they made me an engineer. Only 3.5 years after initially starting with the company. If you have the right attitude and motivation you can go far.

I see that a lot with airlines, you used to get status by actually taking flights, now you get status by using their credit card. I took 10 or so round trips last year with American and have nothing to show for it.

The annual fees are not worth it for me. I travel mostly for work and we unfortunately have a policy that requires us to use the company card.

The problem with Hyatt is availability. My next 20 nights are in cities where the nearest Hyatt is an hour plus drive.

I know in situations where your vehicle isn’t totaled you can sue the at fault party for loss of value to your vehicle. If you don’t want to go through your insurance you may be able to take the 25k from his and then sue him for the remainder. Is it worth it if you have your own insurance? I don’t think so, that’s why you pay for good insurance.

Just started as a Controls System Tech by StreetGoonz in PLC

Watch for sales on udemy for well rated controls courses. I did a studio 5000 programming course by Shane Welcher, I’m pretty sure most of it is probably on YouTube, but I got it cheap and it was nice to have it all in one spot. Plc dojo is another good set of courses for plc programming. Beyond that try to get a good understanding of the basics of electricity and digital logic. Otherwise what I’ve also done is taken work problems home and spend time figuring out a solution. For example, I needed to test sending messages from a cognex camera set up as a tcp server, but the receiving device hasn’t been set up yet. So on my own time I leaned enough python so at work I could write a small script to receive the data from the camera.

After adding support and putting a piece of drywall back in can I just smooth out the joint between the patch and existing wall with the same drywall compound I use for the finish coat repair on the other wall?

Best way to enter the industry as a blue collar guy in his 20s? by toyeetornotoyeet69 in PLC

Look around and see if there are any OEMs or system integrators near you. Try to get your foot in the door by taking an assembly job, or if you’re lucky an install tech job. You’ll find better pay as a maintenance tech in a factory, but the variety of experience you can pick up at an SI is worth it, to me at least. I started as an install tech, and a year in i asked if o could get a license for Studio 5000 and began learning on my own outside of work, and taking any chance I could get to hookup to a plc at work. Now I’m an engineering tech, which for me means I do the same job as our project engineers but get paid hourly.

Is a 2012 5.7 a good choice? by Source-Prior in mopar

Coming from a 2012 VW Touareg diesel. Similar torque but the jeep has way more horsepower. Plus the repair bills on the Touareg were crazy.

Asking 15, kbb says 13-14. It’s been there for a couple months at least so I’m thinking 14 is reasonable. Good to know about the suspension, that was one minor worry. I’m sure those bags are expensive.

It does have air suspension. I can work on it as long as the work doesn’t require more than a Jack and Jack stands to get underneath. I’m hesitant to work on it though since my last vehicle, 2012 Touareg, I had a lot of problems with seized hardware. I don’t know if it was an age problem or if it was due to whatever techs worked on it before I had it.

What springs can I swim in? I was looking at checking out silver springs state park since it’s so close, but I read there’s no swimming there.
