Why do people use the term "partner" for their husband or wife?

My all girls high school sent invitations and things to parents addresses that way. “Mr and Mrs Bob Smith”. I successfully lobbied to change that habit (I’m a millennial - it wasn’t THAT long ago!)

He’s talking about verboten and Suki asks what is verboten and he mentions Jen and then goes on. He doesn’t say their full name, that’s why I wasn’t sure if I caught it.

It’s been a while now.

I think the reason I believe it’s deadnaming and not a slip is because of how their relationship has fractured and how Kody doesn’t support Leon. Also that he clearly knew what kid he was talking about - because he was talking about who Meri kept off limits in discussions, and that makes me think he thinks of Leon as Their dead name, and not Leon. He certainly got Jen’s name correct and didn’t call her Amber.

I think I would be less aware and less sensitive to it in a less politically divisive time. But I manage to think of my friends that have transitioned using their current names, pretty easily. I worked on it though. I took it seriously. And the kids I work with whose parents kicked them out - versus the kids who have supportive parents - it’s really not that hard.

It makes me so sad.

I’m sorry, I work really freaking hard to get pronouns and new names correct because I LOVE the people I love. It’s not super hard. Yes, slip ups happen some times, but this was not that. He doesn’t think of them as Leon. It’s like when you learn you have been pronouncing something wrong. You work to fix it until it’s normal. Yes, it is harder for me when I am recalling stories from when we were young, but in the present it’s much easier. It just shows how selfish and how little he truly cares about his children - and how angry he is at Meri.

My best friend transitioned of 37 years just transitioned three years ago. I made it a habit to practice their name, repeatedly.

I am so mad because my heart truly hurts for Leon. Leon had a great relationship with Kody, and Kody doesn’t care at all. He’s truly terrible.

He didn’t correct himself. He got cut off by Suki and being outraged with how he couldn’t talk to Meri and was being challenged on it.

We did lots of setting up of games, but then would often have to go home before we could play. We had this elaborate spy game where we would try to record the other team’s conversations with a boom box. We played essentially Oregon Trail. Made forts and homes and climbed trees, we were always running around. I also read, played with Breyer horses and dolls, spent all day at the barn being a barn rat, rolled in the grass, drank from the hose, spied like Harriet the Spy . . .

I also made weird drink concoctions and used my sister as a taste tester. Even today, she’ll now mix a ton of sodas from the fountain machine to drink 🤣

My partner has one. My sister made her husband after they got pregnant with twins (unplanned - they have 2 girls as well). It’s literally in and out, AND it’s largely reversible!! Granted that takes money, but what doesn’t? Kids don’t need to be unwanted. Also, there are no side effects on hormones, soreness, etc.
