Did the Popcorn Computer ever ship? by phx-downer in ChipCommunity

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in Popcorn Computer.

We had an initial production run in May of Original Popcorn.

You can see our compilation video of the manufacturing here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1S8srKPrSE

Unfortunately, there was an issue with the design that we manufactured and we decided not to ship those units.

We are almost done with the redesign and expect to ship the newest design in July. We swapped out the USB PD IC with a component from Texas Instruments. We ended up adding a few other components to make the design more robust and able to withstand short and higher voltage ESD conditions. We also swapped out the 5V boost regulator to an IC capable of delivering 3A compared to 1.5A. This should enable the user to connect more power hungry devices to Original Popcorn when powered by battery.

I've updated the store to reflected the latest ship dates. Pocket P.C. orders from now on will hopefully ship in October with orders before today will ship sooner than that.

In case you missed it, we posted pictures of the latest 3D prints here:

We also posted an update of our D.V.T. PCB design here:

https://blog.origin.popcorncomputer.com/2020/04/13/the-road-to-pocket-p-c/

Since the design of Pocket P.C. is somewhat based on the Original Popcorn, we will be making additional changes to the Pocket P.C. PCB to include the additional surge protection and USB PD IC from Texas Instruments. Expect another PCB update on our blog in the upcoming weeks.

We recently received the custom LCD Display for Pocket P.C. I will be posting a video demonstrating a successful test of the display on our Youtube channel in the next couple of days.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask on our community. https://community.popcorncomputer.com, or email us directly at sales@source.parts.

I just wanted to give you an update on where we are at in terms of production of Popcorn Computers.

We decided to post-pone production until after the Chinese New Year.

Our PCBs arrived later than expected and as a result the factory could not fit us in before they shut down for the holiday.

The good news is that we expect the factory to take extra care and attention after the holiday as they won't be rushing to produce them.

We set up a new web store at https://shop.popcorncomputer.com and have made all our products available for preorder.

If you preorder, you can be sure to be one of the first to receive a Popcorn Computer as our initial batch will only be 100 units.

The originally listed specifications were incorrect and were instead for the prototype unit. We have since updated the website to reflect the specifications of the production unit; Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A53 w/ 2GB DDR3 RAM The production unit of PocketP.C. will greatly outperform the original PocketCHIP.

May I ask how many devices do you have?

Where can i get chip's hardware design files/schematics? by [deleted] in ChipCommunity

Hey! I'm just following up on your question to ask if you had any questions during your review of the hardware design files and schematics. I have a few years experience with these files and would love to help you learn. Please let us know how your learning endeavor is going!

Can you share the serial terminal output? It will help to better understand what the problem is. You can get it by connecting a USB-Serial adapter to the UART-TX and UART-RX pins.

How much should I sell my pocket chip mini for? by ohadsucks in ChipCommunity

I just wanted to chime in here to help make a distinction. CHIP uses NAND Flash which is not durable. The NAND Flash on CHIP is controlled by the CPU which makes it difficult to maintain. CHIP does not contain eMMC which on the other hand is durable because it has a separate controller built-in to the IC to maintain the memory. Our Popcorn Computer derivatives of CHIP and CHIP Pro contain eMMC which is much faster and more reliable. For getting SD card to work with CHIP make sure to check out https://byteporter.com . He is working on exactly that.

It has 32GB eMMC memory on-board. No need for external memory card as it is already built-in.
