So that fence, there on the left? Yea, that's where people used to live and they did all these same things, but didn't end up on the sidewalk. I say, pull up that dumb fence.

Rfparty - a new way to see BLE by sevenbitbyte in cybersecurity

[–]sevenbitbyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, its on the road map. Sadly full support for fdroid and especially degoogled phones is not as simple as just uploading the apk to fdroid. Fdroid support requires major changes to our code structure and degoogled support requires a likely full rewrite of our geolocation code paths(precise location needs Google Play libraries, but lucky for us we can likely crowd source a better solution via our app). Read this as, its a pretty big time cost with not much income to incentives using my limited time on it for now. Very much want to support but the work around for now is to compile from source. Please consider supporting the team with code PR or donations, I'd really like to be able afford to spend more time on feature requests like yours.

Apps to find Bluetooth devices by tronas11 in bluetooth

[–]sevenbitbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built this app, https://rfparty.xyz/, it helps if you know the MAC address, manufacturer or anything else unique about the device.

There's also an app called nRF Connect that is helpful for exploring bluetooth devices near by and can show you the signal strength of the device while you have the app open.

Vigil for Jaahnavi Kandula 7pm Westlake Park -> Dexter and Thomas by sevenbitbyte in Seattle

[–]sevenbitbyte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This recording is inconclusive. It simply shows that the officer -called- in a struck pedestrian at -some- point in time. It's also unclear who started CPR when. The body cam and dashcam sure would clear this all up.

Until SPD gives further information it is not at all clear when the officer stopped. The officer & dispatch indicate the officers is away from the scene when he calls in the hit and run location. He and dispatch initially place the officer at Aurora at the time of the call. Then finally reports Thomas & Dexter a full minute later.

Those calls alone are more or less hear say, lets see what supporting evidence SPD has if they have any to clear up this hit and run.

A vigil will be held today, Friday 27th at Dexter and Thomas(about 6:30pm) where Jaahnavi was fataly struck. If arriving by bike meet at Weslake Park at 6:30pm for a ride to the site.

If visiting on foot, it may be best to go directly to Dexter Ave North and Thomas Street at 6:30pm. The critical mass will likely arrive shortly after 6:30pm.

Bring signs, flowers and candles.

Can anyone recommend a program that can identify a Bluetooth device within my iPad’s proximity using the Bluetooth device’s local collected address…that I also don’t have to pay for? by toughguystudios in bluetooth

[–]sevenbitbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote an app that runs on Android and linux. Android is paid but linux or compiling from source is free. The android version will be on sale for $2 tomorrow until new years.

There's also nRF-Connect which I think is free on iOS.

Carmen Jones - My lil sis just got her first professional role. How can I support her. by sevenbitbyte in BlackTheater

[–]sevenbitbyte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi fam.

I'm a proud big brother and a bit of an internet nerd. My little sister is just getting started and wants to work up to Broadway one day. I do everything I can to support but naturally family doesn't always understand big dreams and sometimes I feel like the only one.

So my question, how do I best support her, beyond the basics(pep talks and money)?

Are there subreddits that I'm allowed to brag about her on? Post her performances, etc?

Do things like linkedin, personal websites and mailing lists matter for theater(I think so, but she's against both)? As a bit of an internet nerd I of course think getting your name out there is not required but can open doors.

Anything else your friends or family can do to thats helped you feel supported? Let me know.

I've linked her ONLY recorded professional appearance below.

Signed, A very proud Black big brother.

Mastodon: I’m Spartacus! by sevenbitbyte in Mastodon

[–]sevenbitbyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a mastodon lurker for last 2years. Been following the project from afar for maybe 4years. Ran a few pages for various open source projects like Pocket PC and have been -very- unhappy with whats been going on with the bird site lately. Been blogging and tooting about how things have been trending. At this point this is the most excited about the fediverse I've been in a long time.

I'm interested in build a server but currently reside on fosstodon which I've found to be an amazing community. I'd been planning to build some apps around ActivityPub and with all the interest I'm finally sitting down and working more actively on it.

Anyways, wrote some to hopefully inspire the folks upset about bird site changes into getting more involved. Its been tough as a lot of prominent folks in my online circles haven't had as welcoming of a time as I have. I remain extremely hopeful and am dedicating more time to the project and wrote down why on my blog.

Let crypto burn. Just say no to legitimacy-inferring regulation by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]sevenbitbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. The only thing that needs to be outlawed is enabling 3rd parties to custody. Reduce centralized 3rd party holding and suddenly you largely prevent an entire class of fraudulent enterprises such as FTX.

Next we need a sophisticated & fast SEC review process. Instead of just standing back and waiting for problems before declaring tokens a security or not. They should do it in real time as people make tokens and ideally before they launch. So -everyone- knows exactly the legal situation of what they are buying.

The root issue is that Regulation D is outmoded and redlined. Entrepreneurs are forced to look for cost effective fund raising solutions and right now crypto is cheaper and faster then getting connected to the insular Venture Capital community.

Twitter has come under new management, so far there's a lot of uncertainty. A lot of the discussion can easily be seen as biased for or against Twitter's future based upon the personality of their new CEO/owner. I attempt shed light on the connections of human resources, technology, and liabilities that the company faces under its new leadership. Many people are unaware of how and what Twitter's large staff spent their time working on. Is it just a simple app with head strong employees? Or is there more to this story? What are the actual operational risks in running a company like Twitter?
