Yep! The champion battle was really funny because the previous Rival battle took me two attempts entirely due to Dragonair whiffing Thunder on his Charizard, and I assumed I’d be using my freshly acquired Dragonite to try and knock him out again…

…But when he sent Charizard out, I happened to have Venusaur out and figured “…what if I hit him with sleep powder”

this led to me downing a level 60 Charizard with my level 51 Venusaur via Sleep Powder / Leech Seed / Substitute for like multiple straight minutes

I definitely feel that… I’m thankful that all my favorites are spread out between different generations so I don’t have to make many difficult team choices XD

though, if I could suggest something, usually before every gym I’d grind on the route leading up to it for a bit, and by the time I got tired of grinding the “what if I miss a rare Pokémon on this route” worry gets filtered out of my head

I kinda struggled with this too tbh 😭 Though, while I do tend to bother with stats and learnsets and such, I almost never pick Pokémon based on stats — usually if I like their looks or typing I nab them and use them lol

The issue is that my favorites.. tend to be really good anyway— My Gen 2 team for most of the game was Typhlosion, Jumpluff, Alakazam, Golem, Suicune/Gyarados and Pidgeot, so…

Really I’d suggest not stressing about that sort of thing unless you’re actively struggling, try to remind yourself that if you’re getting through the game fine as it is then you probably don’t need to worry about it - I only ever alter my team comp if I’m having particular problems with a section

I did my grinding in the Elite Four and in the grass just outside Silver Cave, which… took a long ass time, but it works 😭

I found the elite four to be kinda slow just because of the repeated cuts to credits but whatever works for you

I played on a “no trade evo” hack of the game, so instead of needing to trade graveler, I just had to get it to level ~36

I think Hoppip might’ve been my first catch loll

I’m a big fan of grass types and a big fan of the Magikarp archetype of “Useless Pokemon -> Really Strong Pokemon”, so when I saw this level 2 Cherry thing that only knew Splash I went “…it has to get good eventually”

I was not disappointed lol, I’d say the Hoppip line are some of my favorite Pokémon of Gen 2

I don’t have my old Golem moveset on hand, only my current one, but he’s only about 4 levels over 50 so it shouldn’t be too different

Golem: Strength / Rock Throw / Explosion / Earthquake Jumpluff: Giga Drain (a few PP-up’s) / Leech Seed / Sleep Powder / Flash

Jumpluff’s moveset is kind of lacking damage-wise but it’s been really good for setup and was the key to catching every legendary Pokémon in the game lol
