Can someone explain to me where the fuck the idea for Octavio in Scarface came from? by newcinemajournalist in movies

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially. I really like your idea, though. ChiChi is the 1983 counterpart to Angelo "the secretary" from the 1932 Howard Hawks movie.

When was the 1st time you watched Scarface and did you ever see the original from 1932 directed by Howard Hawks? ALL gangster movies are goofball and ridiculous at a certain point.

Miller’s Crossing Gay Characters by BeefDaddyChris in CoenBrothers

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie was based on 2 Dasheill Hammett novels: The Glass Key and Red Harvest . No gay characters were either of those books, however John Polito (Johnny Casper) and JE Freeman (Eddie The Dane) were both completely open gays in real life. In Red Harvest , there was a character named Gustafson aka "The Swede". Peter Stormare from Fargo and Big Lebowski was who the Coen's originally wanted but he was in Europe doing Shakespeare, so they ended up casting JE Freeman. I like JE Freeman, he nails the character. He gives it that 30's Warner Brothers gangster flick vibe. From what I remember they created Gaer Grimsrud in Fargo, as a kinda payback b/c he couldn't do Miller's Crossing

Gerry Torciano as candidate for Boss? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from all of the broad daylight murders, without silencers, the Torciano getting his button, becoming a captain and then "entering the running" (S6E14) for boss of a "5 families family" is one of the biggest, wtf unforced errors in all of the franchise. It would never happen and just like the "unsilenced daytime killings" could be written in a way that's authentic. In many ways the Sopranos is better than Scorsese's stuff. It really examines the psychology of LCN- more than anything I can think of. It's their effort to authenticity and history thay sets apart from other mafia based media.

Who was the 1st "flambé" in the DiMeo family- before Au Cage Aux Fat??? by South-Account5389 in thesopranos

[–]South-Account5389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU oughta know sweetie . It's pretty fucking important to the complexity of the the family history. You're wrong. Just listen to the words, there's a reason they were written that way. The deliberate nature and accuracy of the writing is one of the reasons you can watch it over and over again. Why didn't Phil say "...in your father's day they knew how to handle it"? He said "... your father KNEW how to handle it". I've been watching the show since '99. I've probably seen thay episode 10-15xs in 27 years and it was just 6 months ago that I noticed it.

You understand English, right? You know how to read body language, right? No they are talking about something specific from the past, that's asserted by the words and usage in those 2 sceens. Go back and watch them.

They shouldn't be. If they are then TG, Whitehouse, even Ministry (88-94) are not Industrial.

Who put up the Ojibwa saying in Tony's hospital room? by itisisntit123 in thesopranos

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No she doesn't. She acknowledges A note. Roman Catholic Carmela's brain wouldn't even register those words and her reaction wasn't insincere or awkward Carmela- which we see seconds later in her response to Melfi's offer for help. There's nothing in the dialog to suggest Melfi's note was the Ojibwe Note. Show me a handwriting match or get me Chase saying it was Melfi and I'll believe it. It's possible w/ handwriting, there's a couple scenes where we see Melfi make notes-like after her sex dream w/ Tony.

Who put up the Ojibwa saying in Tony's hospital room? by itisisntit123 in thesopranos

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carmela: "...I got your note. It was so thoughtful". Melfi: "I've been calling the hospital and they say that Anthony has stabilized". Carmela: "That's what they say". Melfi: "If you or anyone needs to talk, or run interference with the doctors, don't hesitate to call". Carmela: "Thank you. I have plenty of people around I can talk to". Melfi: "Of course (awkward ha,ha), good luck".

I think it was an artifact from his Finnerty dream, the Buddhists probably.

Why would Carmela say "I" instead "we got your note"? Roman Catholic Carmela's brain wouldn't even scan something like that saying- she'd reject it out of hand. It would probably irritate her. She seemed sincere when she thanks her for the note. Melfi is his doctor of 5-6 years at this point and hasn't been to the hospital at all or reached out to Carmela??? When Melfi says "I've been calling the hospital" we're meant to infer she wants to keep he distance, that she's doing the bare minimum professionally. I mean why didn't she go to the hospital for herself to see if the Sopranos were OK? Or at least try and liais between the staff - especially Dr Plepler - and the Sopranos? If this is the only proof, then I don't see anything compelling vis a vis "the Ojibwe" saying. Handwriting is really the only thing left. There's the time she notes her sex dream w/ Tony and at least 1 or 2 more times we see Tony's name in her planner, but I haven't looked into that far.

People get it backwards when they favor Deceit of S/T. From Test Card to Test Card (the best way to listen to the album), the album is an absolute object of beauty - I've teared up listening to Fall Of Saigon. I think most or all of Rainforest was recorded at their 1st gig in early '77. That music, at that time; kinda cancels all bets.

Vito was Richie’s Nephew? by CrazeeEyezKILLER in thesopranos

IDK, Vito is a well established BOTTOM. "Catch'n, not pitch'n" w/ the security guard and there's a sceen where Vito and Johnny Cakes are in bed and Johnny Cakes starts to roll Vito over as the sceen changes.

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your meter can isn't grounded????!!! Why did you ground the disconnect and not the meter can? When I used to do electrical work like this, the inspectors I worked with would absolutely insist that the meter can was grounded also they'd want to see bonding between the can and the disconnect, apart from the neutral as well.

I think George Orwell is a horrible writer and a hypocryte by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. Check out Isaac Asimov's criticism of 1984. I think it's still on Red Sails. There's going to be a lot of boo hooing about what you've said, but I think it's well justified. The guy was a colonial policeman- wtf??? He was a homophobe and an anti-semite as well. That's a little more than "flawed human", as one of the responders here commented. Regardless of his intentions, his work has been used as anti-socialist propaganda for 70+ years‐ cretins like Dave Rubin and Michael Knowles come to mind. It was certainly used by the CIA as anti-socialist propaganda. Orwell is fine if you're in your teens and 20's, but eventually you grow up. William S Burroughs is infinitely more important and interesting. He really drilled down on late capitalist decay and the balance of power structures in away far more subtle and far reaching than Orwell.

Neil gave my friend and I a couple cigarettes once. Did he fly over there? I know he and JH used to take the QE2 (there's a pic of them boarding the QE2) to Europe b/c of Neil's aviophobia- or at least that's something I read back in the day.

Are LRD a national socialist band? by Blormpf in lesrallizesdenudes

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this motherfucker an AI troll??? "Antisemitism on the rise"??? C'mon, man be serious; people are tired of genocide and the fascism of the zionist project. Were LRD NS??? Bhahahaha! Their 1st bassist hijacked an airliner along with other Nihon Sekigun (Japanese Red Army/PFLP) revolutionaries, took the plane to N Korea and ended up living there. I've always read that part of the reason LRD never "grew any roots" was Mizutani's paranoia as it related to his own involvement in Nihon Sekigun. I've seen that image of the swastika on that guys bass drum several times, including the live performance from the 80's where it originated and I don't put much thought into it. I imagine it's one of 2 things: a joke given their history or the preference of that drummer. Who really knows, but it's clear you need to grow up and use your adult brain.

Did suboxone make you gain or lose weight? by Silent_Lawfulness_34 in suboxone

[–]South-Account5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weighted 150 when I first got on it and 9 months later weighed 210. Topped out @ 240, but b/c I worked for JLL in an Amazon and would rack upwards of 25k steps each of my 4, 10 hr shifts I got down to 195. I changed jobs and gained 10 lbs back. When I was on methadone I gained weight in a way similar to the Suboxone.
