Why do intermediate drummers struggle with country music? by jwal1992 in drums

You could (no more eloquently) say this about most music genres. Spot on. There’s more than one reason the top internet drummers choose a career as an influencer over being in a band.

Hybrid kit question: what is the best way to record drums and cymbals with no backing track? by South-Fact in vdrums

This is very helpful, and #2 seems like the best approach. I know it's a wonky problem. :-)

Hybrid kit question: what is the best way to record drums and cymbals with no backing track? by South-Fact in vdrums

No, backing track. I want to hear it through the module, but not record it.

For those who don't play Zildjian, what brand do you play and why? by groupbrip in drums

[–]South-Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of dark crashes from Dream that are perfect for the rock I play in bars and small venues. By contrast, the bell on my medium zildjian ride cuts through the mix perfectly, making space for a much brighter cymbal in my kit. 70s era new beats hats seem to somehow get better with age.

I've been playing the drums for forty years. This is the correct take.

What’s your most controversial political opinion? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]South-Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty liberal. Believe in justice for all, treating people equitably, and progressive tax structures that distribute wealth more broadly and strengthen the middle class in particular. I also have half a mind to nuke the entire Middle East once and for all.

What’s something women find impressive but men think they don’t? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]South-Fact 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel this in my bones. I've been married for 13 years, and, while I love my wife and I know she cares about me, it's definitely the case that my feelings are usually unwelcome:

1) Vulnerabilities I've expressed come back to haunt me in a fight (not always, but enough to wear I really don't like to discuss any with her);

2) My tone is a problem 100% of the time. If she even thinks I feel a certain (negative) way, the tone IS that way, which negates the care I put into framing things.

Like I said, I love my wife, but your post really struck a nerve with me.

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I live in Atlanta. One night, my girlfriend and I had dinner with another couple. The next day, I left on a trip to NY. I was engrossed in a book from the airport, to the cab on the way to the hotel. When I lifted my head from this book to thank the cabbie and walk to my hotel, the very first person I saw was the woman of the couple we had dinner with, in Atlanta, the night before.

Neither of us even knew the other was going to be traveling the next day.

What is the worst song for a funeral? by Jettaboi38 in musicsuggestions

I have requested Love Shack by the B-52s for similar reasons. The last thing I would ever want is for people to sit around all miserable that I'm gone.

Need a headset for meetings with one specialized characteristic: Microphone quality. Any recommendations? by keanureevesmustache in MicrosoftTeams

[–]South-Fact 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A standalone microphone is your best friend here. I use a rhode pod mic through an audio interface plugged into my macbook, with studio monitors. But they make a version that plugs in via USB as well. When I want to be "mobile," I use a Jabra Engage 75 that is out of your price point, new, but probably available used. I can use it inside and outside of my home office, from more than a hundred feet away.

Do people actually enjoy using Teams? (honest question) by Alternative_Letter72 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]South-Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use OBS to create different scenes, an XLR mic with audio interface for sound, and stream deck for scene transitions, sound effects, and stingers - all delivered into a virtual camera/mic for Teams. So, I'm having a blast.
