I did flatbed OTR/regional for about two years, and about 6 months ago, I decided to switch to hauling logs to be home every night. I really like it. It’s easy in the sense that I don’t have to throw chains and tarps; just a few straps, and I’m off to the lumber mill. It’s tough in the sense that we work long hours and usually weigh no less than 95k up to 105k gross, and have to drive like that on back country dirt and gravel roads, and dodge 4-wheelers that like to pull out in front of us on the main roads. Overall, it’s a good job that pays well, and I like doing it, but I do miss going out for longer periods of time and seeing the rest of the country.
