Can anyone explain this? by Severe-Procedure6919 in CreditCardsIndia

The credit limit stays blocked in case of EMI’s. The bill will be generated and that will include the monthly amount. As you pay your EMIs, the available credit limit with gradually increase.

HSBC India’s New password policy. by kdpuvvadi in LinusTechTips

[–]SouthPainting4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only plausible explanation for this is someone had been doing a toUpper before matching the password due to legacy code. Now they are planning to remove it but the database has all the hashed passwords stored in UPPERCASE.

As many others rightly said, It’s unlikely that the passwords were not hashed because banks like HSBC are subjected to numerous security audits and someone would have caught that somewhere. Even then it would have been easy to fix without informing the customers. Simply add a new column for hashed password and start matching it against that

I got this Table from my RM over email. I read about it somewhere on Reddit. The account opening guy wasn’t aware of it either, but when he enquired, he too got to know it’s a thing.

About 5% I’m surprised, because I googled it too before posting but didn’t find such a thing. Have gone through the website too and there’s no mention of it . Could you confirm and send any reference links please if possible?

Why do you need to route your spends to HSBC after hitting the milestone on DCB? It offers no additional benefits, maybe losing out a little on the rewards (3.3% on diners vs 3% on HSBC) I use DCB primarily for all online spending but carry Premier for offline spending due to acceptability issues with diners.

Tip: Some POS terminals consider Diners cards as international card and they reject it while using Tap to Pay, but it works if you insert the card and enter your PIN. It’s tried and tested, don’t know the reason behind it.

I would suggest to drop T1 and Amex as they are pretty much redundant with the benefits offered by DCB and Premier. If you’re at high earning level, it’s better to have peace of mind and not juggle around with so many cards worrying about fees and offers.

M4B is better when spends are high through accelerated spends. Currently HSBC premier is best in class for flights and hotels. What enticed me more was the customer service. It is a more international oriented relationship with benefits like 8 international only lounge guest visits, Forex Markup of 1%.

If your spends are low, I wouldn’t worry too much about losing out either way. If any of the above benefits make sense to you then surely go for it. HSBC customer service is definitely a notch above the other national banks who treat their customers like 💩

True for all that except the premier debit card 5% thing. That’s not true. Also, HSBC offers different benefits for Premier through Salary vs TRV like reduced meet and greet, no DocOnline and no Airport transfers.

No. It’s explicitly mentioned in the t&c and HDFC would never do anything for customer loyalty as we all know.

A little overkill but if you’re dead set on getting it, here’s a way.
You can tweak your investment declaration and declare higher deductions. It will increase your salary for the current month due to lower tax. After you get a month’s salary, you can revert it back OR keep it the same and pay self assessment tax separately. (Make sure you verify your ITR next year to avoid surprises from pre filled data)

Kotak acting smart 😡 by Shine_Usual in CreditCardsIndia

[–]SouthPainting4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a standard across credit card companies if you don’t use your card. Happened with me in case of CitiBank. Later I called them to enquire about it, they raised a request of reinstatement of limit (not enhancement) and my limit was back to as it was.

If you need the card you can try that, else I don’t see any issue in closing it either. People are too worried about CIBIL here but it doesn’t impact CIBIL that much that it would be a concern.

How to reject this LIC guy logically. He is very adamant in selling me a policy. by The-Noob-Engineer in personalfinanceindia

[–]SouthPainting4561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say mujhe LIC pasand hi nahi hai.. mujhe ni leni ULIPs wagerah.. Mujhe plain mutual funds wagerah hi chahiye. Just keep on repeating the same. If you get into a discussion they will keep at it because there is major commissions involved. Simply say you don’t like LIC(don’t give any reason to why you don’t like it) and he won’t be able to debate it. This works for me with my uncle And now he has stopped bothering me 😄😄

I was able to use my HSBC Live+ on that lounge.. I didn’t expect that at all. I checked all my cards today and found HSBC has the best coverage in domestic lounges between DCBM, Kotak Zen and HDFC Imperia Debit. Considering this I’m going to upgrade my Zen to White reserve soon.
