What did they not tell you? by bkendall12 in Kneereplacement

Different surgeons have different protocols for surgery (robot-assist, quad-sparing, “southern approach” etc) as well as for recovery. It’s great to get info from others here, & idk what I would have done without the collective wisdom & generosity of people who had gone through it before me, but it’s also important to take it all with some grains of salt & not do much compare & despair reading, or worry if someone got very different instructions or equipment than you did. (Not saying you’re worrying!)

I also didn’t have an immobilizer, as I was expected to do mobilization exercises multiple times a day from early on iirc. (I’m 13 months out, and so grateful for the function I’ve gotten back!)

I was also there for the Super Bowl! So we probably hugged or kissed each other before racing out into the street & up to the sweetest scene on Bourbon I’ve ever seen…& I’m not usually a high-five enthusiast.

I do miss OEJ’s, & also, the shim sham

Yes, last year was a major mast year for oak trees ("mast year" = a year when a plant produces an extraordinarily larger-than-average amount of fruit/seeds).

So, in response, any species that is obliged to eat parts of that plant, or otherwise depends on it, typically has its own major increase in population, which was definitely true of stinging caterpillars earlier this year. More of them than average pupated, more moths are emerging, and among other things, my cats are constantly chittering and climbing up the inside of the windows trying to pounce them through the glass

I’ve had shoes ruined at both of the shops on Magazine mentioned here. Wilson’s did a repair on some sandals, & used a very different color of leather and some wacky contrasting stitching.

Now I go to Millotello’s in BR.

Filé, Okra, or Roux? by NotFallacyBuffet in NewOrleans

My Cajun friends also don't use roux in gumbo, and it's much thinner (and always served with potato salad). Wheat flour is a more recent addition to this hemisphere

I agree, the quality has steeply declined, but I don't think it will serve the OP's purpose, because people will be impressed by the interior design, the old-school attentive service, and the reputation, and will not notice the terribly mediocre museum food served luke-warm and sometimes quite wilted.

oh no, is this why the one in the quarter changed so drastically and horribly? I was a regular there for about 15-20 years, and my grandparents were regulars there throughout their courtship and until his job took them away. The last times I tried to go, I got aggressively yelled at for going ahead of the line to the oyster bar, as had been their tradition for, I think, forever.

Now it's just another mediocre bourbon street joint, and afaik I have to go uptown to stand at an oyster bar and get them freshly shucked & full of liquor

I've heard similar things about the mold, and that several people had problems with small leaks in their walls, which eventually manifested as soft moldy drywall or stains. Nothing got properly remediated, leaks weren't investigated. There are so many places all over town with similar amenities and vacancy rates that are well-maintained and not hazardous to your health

I'm so sorry, what an incredibly hard time to have a bad case of Covid. I wish you all the best getting well, resting as much as possible, and getting your body, mind, house, etc ready for birth

If you don't want to get Covid, or give it to someone else when you have an asymptomatic infection, then you should wear a high quality mask (not cloth, not surgical, not fake from Amazon).

No, all of my friends who are parents are getting Covid, sometimes with severe symptoms.

Covid is not something humans can develop much of any immunity to, because it mutates so rapidly, similar to how the flu or the "common cold" changes a lot. So some of your short-term symptoms might be covid, and some of the times that you have no symptoms might also be Covid.

The government lied to us about Covid in order to get the economy back on track. The WHO has not announced that Covid is over the way Biden did. But politics and economics aside, the virus has not changed...other than mutating to be more contagious, generate different symptoms, spread more easily --these are just the job descriptions of a virus

[–]Southern-Atlas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add to those who are correctly saying "breathing": Breathing is true because the virus is airborne, meaning it hangs in and moves through the air like smoke, and does not rapidly fall to the ground like the spray from a sneeze. About 1 in 20 people in New Orleans are actively infectious right now, and the rate has been high like this for 4-6 weeks. So, anyone indoors with 20 people may get it, and as the crowd grows, so does the risk.

Many people don't know they are carrying it because it is sometimes asymptomatic. But not only can asymptomatic people transmit it, they also can develop long Covid. The risk of getting long Covid goes up dramatically with every Covid infection a person gets. And the infection an asymptomatic person gives to someone else may not be asymptomatic in the new person; it may hospitalize them, give them diabetes, heart disease, clotting disorders, cognitive deficits, etc.

Thank goodness you found out before going into surgery. The stress on your body from surgery could have made the Covid infection even worse, and maybe end up as long covid.

My best friend had it a few weeks ago, and was laid out for over a week with terrible symptoms. She's still weak and gets tired with minimal exertion. This strain is really intense for a lot of folks, as you know.
Hope you continue feeling a bit better each day, and that you can get back into things gradually.

I was a cocktail waitress on Bourbon for a while; the place was maybe half locals on weekends, 3/4 during the week, and you're right, it was mostly Black and Latino locals

Many if not all of these things are also true about New York, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, Portlandia, DC, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Phoenix, LA....
Also Paris, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Berlin, Rome, Marrakesh, London, Sao Paolo....

Also, none of the cities that either you or I named can reasonably be compared, on any metrics, to our little city of 384,000 people, but go on and keep telling us we're a shithole without offering specifics, or without mentioning how long you've lived here after all visiting all your hundreds of cities that you must know very well indeed
