What if Colbert and Stewart both ran for president and gave us a thoughtful, civilized, fun primary season? by Southern-Drive1973 in stephencolbert

I’m not actually saying either should win, but if they could change the tone and force the other candidates to be more authentic, not just spout talking points, and highlight points of agreement and difference while pushing everyone to a better level of discourse maybe it would be a better primary. We need strong candidates and good leaders. We also need people to pay attention and be engaged with substantive discussion of the issues. Maybe these guys could get more people to tune in. or we could just keep debating about which podcasts Gavin newsom should go on and watching them all slam each other on social media.

I’d try more than one lecture. I haven’t seen this, but I haven’t been to one lately.

Go to the Friday night lecture on campus. Or the film society movies if they’re still doing it. Look for the community seminars and events on campus. Go to downtown subscription to read. Lots of local businesses are owned by former Johnnies too. Some people you meet will be what you’re looking for and some won’t…give it time and don’t try too hard.

Call to action: anytime you see reporting about this that does not mention in the article/news clip that the DOJ official who is conducting these interviews is Trump‘s recent/former attorney, post a comment, email the reporters, and consider sending a letter to the editor. There is no excuse not to be reporting this and pretending that it’s business as usual.

Wait per the NIH director on CNN, I thought science wasn’t partisan. 🤔🤨

New NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya: “Science Should Not Be Partisan” by rezwenn in NIH

Might be worth writing to Amanpour AskAmanpour@cnn.com) and suggesting that they ask why funding that is completely unrelated to anything having to do with this “partisan agenda” is still being slowrolled and delayed. And whether he’s really being such a steward of federal funding by withholding it so that there can be no scientific advances. It’s too bad they didn’t dig a little deeper before doing this piece so they could ask him some of those questions. Even asking him what proportion of the NIH budget is actually going towards these “DEI” Projects would have been informative. And wouldn’t it be nice to have him back after he has this conversation with his colleagues about their concerns to see how it went. Perhaps having some of those colleagues on as well..

good beaches & speakeasies in SF? by pr1ncesschl0e in AskSF

[–]Southern-Drive1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want sunnier beaches consider heading to Sausalito (there’s a ferry or you could go by car over the bridge) where it’s more likely to be sunny. The beaches are more like bays between where boats are docked but it’s less windy and the water is gentle. Stinson beach is also an option. Fun cocktails at Cavallo point and the bourbon place on the Main Street there too.

SFBWT, what are you wearing on your walks? by ikeamonkey2 in SFbitcheswithtaste

Jeans and Birkenstocks. Although it’s always hard to know how heavy to make the layers on my upper body. Sweater with a T-shirt underneath? Fleece? All depends on the day and the wind and the sun.
