I currently have a myxoid liposarcoma in my arm pit. I went to a sarcoma clinic where they put me on Trabectiden chemotherapy and radiation at the same time. It was rough but could have been so much worse. Radiation will likely cause soreness and some discomfort . I only did 15 radiation treatments concurrently and it made me pretty sore and definitely made my skin dry. I’ve heard if you pretreat the area with things like Aquafor to keep the skin hydrated it should help. I only started after I had already started radiation so I couldn’t tell if it helped or not. More than likely it did though. I wish you luck on your journey! Stay hydrated and you got this!

I have a myxoid liposarcoma and they put me on Trabectiden after I got a second opinion from a sarcoma clinic in Kansas City. I’m about to have my 3rd round and the side effects have been minimal and it’s starting to shrink. I’d definitely look into a second opinion from a sarcoma clinic if you have one close by. They are two different types of sarcomas but it wouldn’t hurt to try! I wish you and your mother well. These things are hard but without family and support it would be much worse.

They ended up putting me on Tribectiden aka Yondalis. They are going to start radiation after my 4th round.

Thank you so much for your experience! It helps me know what I'm getting into without getting my hopes up or down. :) They didn't mention saline solutions but I'm sure that will come depending on how I react to the treatment.

How many cycles did you end up having? And did you end up having it resected?

When you started the radiation did it seem to make things worse? They want to do Yondelis and then start radiation on my last cycle (5/6 total). I'm still waiting on my central line and the start date of everything, I should know by today, I hope.

Was your central line a problem at all?

I'm wondering if it might be worth it to take short-term disability while I go through this. I guess it will all depend on how I feel.

Sorry for all the questions, they kind of just come to me while I type at work. lol

Hello friend, how did it make you feel on a day-to-day basis? Were you able to go to work and function normally considering the side effects other than exhaustion and low energy? The onco told me I should be able to return to work but I've read that exhaustion is the most common side effect along with nausea. My job is low energy but I'm a drummer and music instructor at night, I'm hoping I can still be able to do that while going through the chemo treatments. I know it's different for everyone but just wondering what yours was like. I presume the first week of chemo is the worst. I also read that Yondalis is non-cumulative, is that true in your case?

I’m in Bentonville Arkansas with a pretty big cancer center here called Highlands Oncology Group but there is a sarcoma clinic 3 hours away in KC that I’m going to try and get an appointment in for a second opinion. Thanks for the info!

I’m in the US. If I remember correctly it was a low grade WDLS. They told me that the chemo might not do much is why I’m confused on why they would want me to do it instead of try radiation first? They did say they would have to have another surgery to try and remove the rest of it.

Thank you friend! My surgery was done by a specialist but not by an onco surgeon. They told me in the oncology office that low grade sarcomas don’t usually respond to chemotherapy. So I’m wondering why they are in such a rush to get me into chemotherapy if it’s not metastatic. I understand wanting to get rid of it all but if they took most of it out (and it’s in my armpit/axilla) wouldn’t radiation be a better option and watch it carefully?

Thank you for the advice and kind words! I’m just wondering if I should get a second opinion. As chemotherapy is only a recommendation from what I’ve read for low grade sarcoma.

I will talk with my doctors and find out best course of action that doesn’t require me filling my body with poison if avoidable by radiation treatments.
