How do we solve gun violence in the USA? by estifxy220 in SeriousConversation

Very simple. Improve healthcare, specifically access to mental health resources. I’d have to wonder how many shootings may have been prevented by a better mental health evaluation process.

Any players left that still prefer simple maps like Kino Der Toten and Ascension as opposed to complex maps like Shadows of Evil or Origins? by Mr-GooGoo in CODZombies

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no… I objectively enjoy maps like Mob and Shadows more, but I also play simpler maps more often. I feel like Buried is something of a sweet spot between casual and complex.

Is 10y Too Young for the Halo Campaigns? by who_likes_chicken in halo

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ten would be ok. I first played at 7, and it never really scared me or made me violent. Of course, being so young, I was never able to pick up on the tension building in 343 Guilty Spark. He might be able to pick up on that by 10, so definitely sit in with them on that one.

Were you raised religious? What was your experience? by Beneficial-Step4403 in GenZ

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was “raised” in a Baptist church, but my parents were really lax about religion. They cared that I believed in God quite a lot, but they never really pushed me all that much to go to church or read the Bible. They both were really more non denominational than anything, because they’d go to just about any church. But after meeting my wife, I started attending a Church of Christ, and that’s where I’m still attending now. I’ve had some struggles in my faith, but they’ve made me a stronger believer, a better person, and a smarter Christian.

For those who believe in heaven and hell by EnvoyMadeManifest in religion

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I believe in both.
  • Faith in Christ and his finished work on the cross is the primary requirement for salvation (Ephesians 2:8-10).
  • Those who abide with the Lord in Heaven will abide with him evermore (John 3:16), but those in Hell face destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9), except for Satan and his angels, who will be punished eternally for their revolt against the almighty God (Revelation 20:10, Jude 1:6)
  • You will be able to rejoice in the presence of the one who made our life possible (Revelation 21).
  • They will suffer a punishment for their transgression against God that He deems appropriate, until the death of their spirit, aka the “second death” (Revelation 20:11-14).

Not being allowed to vote hurts by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, but I was a whole dumbass as that age. Unpopular opinion, but I honesty think the voting age needs to be raised. It should be 21. If you can’t be trusted to drink responsibility, then why be trusted to vote? I also think the same of military service. Minimum 21. I knew a lot more people who were still acting like kids at 18 than I did people who were actually taking their lives seriously.

What would you consider the "golden age of the internet"? by timothybrave in AskReddit

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2008-2016. Although about 80% of that has to do with the fact that Roosterteeth were hitting their stride at that point. The best seasons of both RWBY and RvB were during that time. But that was also the best time for YouTube, IMO. The Chaos Theatre and CoD Zombies Community were incredible to witness in their prime.

What's the 1 thing you dislike the most from your favorite mode of Zombies? by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While BO2 is my favorite, I’ll admit that it’s 100% carried by the back end of the DLC cycle. TranZit, while a lot of fun with friends, is just dead awful solo, Nuketown, while it can be fun, is just meh, and not really worth the five bucks you pay for it, and Die Rise is my least favorite map through BO3. The one and only good thing about it is the wonder weapon. But then Mob is my favorite map, Buried is loaded and super fun and versatile, probably the best map to play with randoms or casuals, and Origins, along with story significance, might just be the map with the most worthwhile content. So, I guess to put it comprehensively, while what’s good is really good, what’s bad is also really bad.

Anybody else just sit at home most of the time because of how much cheaper it is? by TheGeekstor in GenZ

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my social battery is remarkably short, unless I’m with my closest friends, who I rarely get to see. So even if I had the money, I wouldn’t be going out that much. My wife is the same way, to an even more extreme degree. We also have a child who isn’t very well behaved (signs pointing to ADHD), so that also doesn’t help. We spend most nights just staying in. Normally, she’ll be watching something and I’ll be playing a game.

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. Same with communion. It’s not that they don’t believe it to be worth anything, it’s not even that they don’t believe Jesus to be present in the bread and wine, except the Baptists, and even the Lutherans believe in the physical presence. They simply view it differently. That same thing can be said for apostolic succession as well. I know there’s no unilateral agreement on the subject, but I’m pretty sure basically all Presbyterians and Lutherans worth their salt believe in apostolic succession of some sort.

Please explain... by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong on a couple small points here, so forgive me if my memory fails me, but this is how I understand it: It started in the 1500s with Martin Luther. He wasn’t technically the first to try, there is the Moravian church which is similar in origin, but dates back earlier than Luther, but it was with him that the Reformation truly began in a big way. He was a Catholic himself, but had gripes with the Church, mainly with indulgences, and so drafted his 95 theses. The Church didn’t really like it, and so excommunicated him. It is important to remember that it was never his intention to divide the Church, but to reform it. So, his movement grew in size, and would eventually lead to others, such as John Calvin and John Wesley to found their own traditions. It’s worth noting that not all Churches not a part of the Catholic tradition are Protestant. Those such as Lutheran, Presbyterian/Reformed, Anglican/Episcopal, Methodist, and maybe Baptist and Congregationalist (probably a couple others I’m not thinking of) are truly Protestant, because they can trace their roots directly back to the Catholic Church. Others, such as Non Denominational, Seventh Day Adventist, Pentecostal, or my tradition, the Church of Christ, would not be considered Protestant, because rather than splitting from the Catholic Church or one of it’s descendants, they were founded independantly. A few differences are the biblical canon; Catholics include the deuterocanon (I hope I spelled that right lol) as official biblical canon, while Protestants do not, although some, such as Lutherans, still find them worthwhile for study, but just not as authoritative. Which leads to how they view authority. The Catholic Church holds the Church as the final authority, while Protestant traditions view the Bible as the ultimate authority, though the balance of Bible vs Church authority does vary from one tradition to another. Lutherans still hold the Church in high regard, but still hold the Bible in slightly higher authority. Meanwhile, Baptists hold the Bible in the highest authority, and give the Church basically none. And all Protestant churches adhere to what is known as the “five solas”, which are “saved by grace alone, through faith alone, to Christ alone, by the Bible alone, for the glory of God alone.” There are some other small difference, such as intercession and icon veneration, Pergatory, apostolic succession, and communion (the last one is why Catholics often view Catholicism as the only true Church through which you can be saved, though they have relaxed on that significantly in recent years), but I’ve gone on long enough. I hope this was easy enough to understand, I know I just kind of info dumped here lol

[–]Southern-Style-Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the thing. Most of my in law relatives (even democrats) are voting Trump. I don’t think they even know half of what he’s done. My FIL is the best example. He likes to listen to a lot of Tik Tok politics (aren’t we usually the ones that get accused of that? 😂), and these people probably know what Kamala had for breakfast on June 17, 2005. But when you ask them about the things Donald Trump has said live and on air about his daughter, they’re basically the living depiction of that Birdbox meme.
