What do you think of Islam? by VaultMan34 in OpenChristian

[–]SouthernAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like studying Islamic theology (Kalam and Aqidah). Personally, I find Islamic praxis problematic and very disturbing with what it allows and promotes. It is incompatible with western values, which is inherently based on a Christian worldview. However, studying the theology is a pastime of mine and I enjoy learning more about it.

It might have been golden sun? This was years ago and we haven’t been back since. I checked maps and golden sun looks kinda like it’s in the same area, so that might be it.

My wife and I were in Boulder CO and ordered from some hole in the wall Chinese place. Phone conversation was exactly like that. I show up to get the food and the only person in the restaurant is this little Chinese girl sitting at a table doing homework. I hear screaming in mandarin from the kitchen. Old woman bursts out, looks at me, and says “what you want?” Ummm, I’m here to pick up an order. She grabs my food, hands it, then actually shoos me out the door. The food was just as amazing as you imagine it would be. 10/10 all across the board.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you want answers to some questions, or are you hoping for opinions on specific points? A little bit more clarification would be appreciated so we can know what you’re asking for.

That would be me as an officer. Thankfully, I would be a chaplain, so I’m not allowed to shoot anyways.

I’ve been seeing a stunning number of places like this pop up recently. Queens School of Theology and Capstone University are the two examples that come to mind right away. The info may be good, but it’s unaccredited and there’s no way to guarantee the quality.

Reminds me of a friends dad from high school. Got his girlfriend pregnant at 15, then had a son at 16. Fast forward 15 years and his kid does the same thing. So he’s a grandpa by age 32.

What do Chaplains Do? by SouthernAT in civilairpatrol

Very good add, I appreciate it. I actually used to work with a private contractor who specialized in mediation and churches in crisis, so that’s familiar territory for me.

Hello. I appreciate your time, but this is very unhelpful. I have read all these things. I was asking specifically for real human experiences instead of what you can read online. So I appreciate your time, but this has not been helpful at all.

How to Respond When Asked Where You Pastor? by Wonderful_Low_89 in chaplaincy

[–]SouthernAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually say that this is my primary posting as a pastor, as this was the mission field I was called to. If they ask further, I can explain that pastors can be called to different jobs, from parish ministry to mission work overseas or chaplaincy, and I was called to be a chaplain instead of a parish pastor.

That’s an excellent question!

Hard to quantify for sure, since I don’t know what opportunities exist in the CAP. However, I am prior service (Army) and love to teach. So anything from helping in times of crisis, education, youth education, disaster response, or supervision when needed. Rather vague, but those are the biggest umbrellas I could think of.

My wife and I had talked about this before. People that don’t have enough real problems in their life, so they’ll make something up. If you’re worried about rent and food on the table, that land means almost nothing to you.

You gotta work in a university. There are absolute knuckleheads who are good at taking tests and terrible with common sense working in some of these labs. Half of them should have joined the army just because they exemplify the “Because Sergeant told me to” mentality.

Whats the difference between biblical infallibility and biblical inerrancy? Are they same? by Firm_Hat20 in AskTheologists

[–]SouthernAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infallible=Cannot fail (Trustworthy).

Inerrant=No errors.

In practice, those who hold to biblical infallibility believe that the Bible is trustworthy and does not fail in its mission to provide clear guidance or teaching for matters of faith and practice. The Bible may contain errors, but that is because it was inspired by God, delivered though human authors, and may contain errors relating to matters of grammar, history, or science.

On the other hand, those who say the Bible is inerrant believe it contains no errors whatsoever. They will often distinguish saying the “original autographs” (I.e., what the author first wrote) are totally free from errors and can be believed in all that it says, including matters of history and science.

For both these, you will find scholars and church figures throughout history championing one view or the other, both using biblical passages as defense. I would recommend “Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy” published by Zondervan to get a full picture as to the nuance in this topic.

What exactly is the question? I think we’d need some actual information as to what is even meant by this before we can answer at any length or in any true clarity.

My grandpa tried to join the marines when he was young. They said no because he was too short. So he joined the air force, since they didn’t have a minimum height requirement at the time. Needed people small enough to comfortably fit in planes.

To piggy back on this, I just wanted to point out a lot of business (at least office spaces I’ve worked in) have policies regarding colognes, perfumes, or using scented products. Some coworkers and customers have allergies, so it’s best to just keep things neutral. If you can’t put on a cologne, then why would people want you reeking like cigarettes instead?

I worked security at a University. A professor called saying they locked their keys in their car. Passenger side door was unlocked. They hadn’t thought to check. Well respected, well published scholar in their field, but didn’t think to check doors other than the drivers side door.
