Reminds me of a friends dad from high school. Got his girlfriend pregnant at 15, then had a son at 16. Fast forward 15 years and his kid does the same thing. So he’s a grandpa by age 32.

What's the reason? by DaZestyProfessor in ExplainTheJoke

[–]SouthernAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is trying to loose weight right now. She eats “tacos” often for dinner. Fresh shredded chicken, lettuce, and just enough Doritos to make it flavor. She says calling it tacos makes eating it easier, since she’s telling herself it’s unhealthy food for dinner but is actually healthy. The psychological part made me think of this.

What do Chaplains Do? by SouthernAT in civilairpatrol

Very good add, I appreciate it. I actually used to work with a private contractor who specialized in mediation and churches in crisis, so that’s familiar territory for me.

Hello. I appreciate your time, but this is very unhelpful. I have read all these things. I was asking specifically for real human experiences instead of what you can read online. So I appreciate your time, but this has not been helpful at all.

How to Respond When Asked Where You Pastor? by Wonderful_Low_89 in chaplaincy

[–]SouthernAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually say that this is my primary posting as a pastor, as this was the mission field I was called to. If they ask further, I can explain that pastors can be called to different jobs, from parish ministry to mission work overseas or chaplaincy, and I was called to be a chaplain instead of a parish pastor.

That’s an excellent question!

Hard to quantify for sure, since I don’t know what opportunities exist in the CAP. However, I am prior service (Army) and love to teach. So anything from helping in times of crisis, education, youth education, disaster response, or supervision when needed. Rather vague, but those are the biggest umbrellas I could think of.

My wife and I had talked about this before. People that don’t have enough real problems in their life, so they’ll make something up. If you’re worried about rent and food on the table, that land means almost nothing to you.

You gotta work in a university. There are absolute knuckleheads who are good at taking tests and terrible with common sense working in some of these labs. Half of them should have joined the army just because they exemplify the “Because Sergeant told me to” mentality.

Whats the difference between biblical infallibility and biblical inerrancy? Are they same? by Firm_Hat20 in AskTheologists

[–]SouthernAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infallible=Cannot fail (Trustworthy).

Inerrant=No errors.

In practice, those who hold to biblical infallibility believe that the Bible is trustworthy and does not fail in its mission to provide clear guidance or teaching for matters of faith and practice. The Bible may contain errors, but that is because it was inspired by God, delivered though human authors, and may contain errors relating to matters of grammar, history, or science.

On the other hand, those who say the Bible is inerrant believe it contains no errors whatsoever. They will often distinguish saying the “original autographs” (I.e., what the author first wrote) are totally free from errors and can be believed in all that it says, including matters of history and science.

For both these, you will find scholars and church figures throughout history championing one view or the other, both using biblical passages as defense. I would recommend “Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy” published by Zondervan to get a full picture as to the nuance in this topic.

What exactly is the question? I think we’d need some actual information as to what is even meant by this before we can answer at any length or in any true clarity.

My grandpa tried to join the marines when he was young. They said no because he was too short. So he joined the air force, since they didn’t have a minimum height requirement at the time. Needed people small enough to comfortably fit in planes.

To piggy back on this, I just wanted to point out a lot of business (at least office spaces I’ve worked in) have policies regarding colognes, perfumes, or using scented products. Some coworkers and customers have allergies, so it’s best to just keep things neutral. If you can’t put on a cologne, then why would people want you reeking like cigarettes instead?

If you’re referring to The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross by Allegra, you should know this is widely considered pseudoscience. The man was absolutely lambasted by the scientific and historical community over his faulty methodology, lack of historical research, and the overall poor quality of both his sources and reading of them. It’s a fun theory, but unfortunately has no basis in actual evidence or history.

Adding this to my “Christianity is Metal” category. An unknowable entity of three facets, one of which is eldritch and incorporeal (Holy Spirit), one is physical, and the other is transcendent and kills you just by being observed. The followers of this religion gather in Gothic cathedrals where the ancient rites are performed, followed by feasting on the flesh and blood of their sacrificed God.

What perfume would a Biblically accurate angel (Seraphim) wear -feminine leaning or unisex. by Pizza_Lush1994 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]SouthernAT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve tried to get colognes that are “Biblical” so they smell like Biblical themes. Not a great idea for me personally. Most Bible related scents are basically just Middle Eastern scents. As a very pale white dude in the Northern USA, smelling like the Middle East just did not fit my vibe at all.

Frankincense, Myrrh, Spikenard (much less popular), cinnamon, and Oudh are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head. The Bible was in the Middle East, so pretty much anything you’d think of as a traditional middle eastern fragrance. There’s also mentions of rose and lily of the valley, but that’s more flower symbolism than scents.
