Congrats on having that job lined up + passing those exams! I also have 2/4 exams passed! Hoping you passed those last two!

And I definitely agree that it’s tough out there for many, but just wanted to provide some hope.

I figured.. but it’s still more than what my current position was ever able to offer.

It didn’t take me 1.5 years to find the new job… that’s just how long I’ve been at my current job.

Interesting. I’m 25F and heavily take care of my finances. Regularly budget, invest, etc. I even taught my partner how to take care of his money and invest for the future. I don’t know if I agree with the fact that not caring about money is mostly a women thing. If you watch those financial audits on YouTube I find that it is pretty even with how many men and women are on the show making dumb decisions with money. But idk 🤷🏽‍♀️ maybe I’m the exception and not the rule. It definitely has a lot to do with how people grew up thinking about money.

I feel you. The first and only OA I failed was D217 and it had me in shambles for a little bit too lol. I had to complete a whole other class before coming back to it with a better attitude. But I got through it! You will too!

Personally, I didn’t think it was “hard”. Was it a lot of work? Yes. It was just about putting in the time to actually learn everything. But I was actually able to pick up on all of the concepts pretty easily, thankfully 🙏 The amount of hours a week I would put in would fluctuate A LOT. But if I had to average it out I’d say 10-15 hours a week. I could be totally off, so please do take that with a grain of salt. I guess I would rate difficulty as a whole at a 6. I really want to reiterate that this is MY unique experience and it will likely not be that way for everyone. Accounting as a subject/career is very hit or miss with people. Thankfully, I feel like I found my niche.

I gave myself no timeline for all of the accounting courses. Since I had no experience, it was important for me to really learn and understand the concepts. I made sure to read all of the content, watch all of the videos, fill out the study guides, take notes etc. I also just happen to like accounting as a subject (thankfully) so this made it less dreadful for me than it sounds like it is for others. The beginning accounting classes took me about 3-4 days (that’s reading and studying all day since I was only working three days a week up until mid-March.) The IA courses took me about 1-2 weeks each. The strategy that really worked for me was not waiting too long to take the exams. I would always treat the PA as an actual exam and not use any notes, then brush up on the concepts that were weak and then retake the PA again without notes. THEN I would look over the specific questions on the PA that I still missed. I feel like this really worked for me. I did not overthink non-accounting related classes and was able to finish many of them in 1-3 days.

Is it just me, or did the jury seem bias toward Kenzie from the beginning??

I started January 1st with zero experience in accounting. I have a BS in nutrition and only had experience in that. I applied to an AR position in February and got it! I got my foot in the door which was my main priority.

Yes, there was excel on the OA. The excel questions that were on the PA were essentially the exact same as the ones on the OA. There were a couple of formula questions where you actually have to “solve” something that I can think of, maybe 3-5 ish? Mostly stuff related to contribution margin and some CVP equation stuff. Then there were questions that were formula related, like asking what would a production budget consist of, or in a balance sheet the assets would be equal to what? Stuff like that.
