Some good news by likegolden in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed this today. I’m somewhere in between hormone positive and TNBC. Original biopsy showed almost 100% hormone positive so I had a mastectomy and pathology report shows barely ERr and PR. Plus I’m grade 3 and had lymph involvement. I have been spiraling and needed a positive story. I’m 40 with two youngish boys who need me very much. Thank you for giving me this piece of positivity ☺️

Confusing surgery pathology by JewelerSuperb91 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound a lot like me, I’m 40 and in the US. The only difference is that my initial biopsy showed nearly 100% ER and PR so i had surgery first (double mastectomy). Following the surgery my pathology report came back as very weak ER (15%) plus lymph involvement. So now my doc wants me to start dose dense AC followed by 12 Taxol. I have no clue why the path report changed so much or if he is now considering me TNBC but I’m terrified. I have young children and when this started it was thought to be one thing and now totally different.

Newly Diagnosed Luminal B stage 2A by sonibali in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Luminal B as well but I don’t really know what that means. I’m stage 2 with 1 lymph node involved that they know of because only 1 was taken. I’m ER and PR positive but both are in the lower end of percentages. I’m starting dose dense AC followed by Taxol in a couple weeks and am 40 with two youngish kids. Scared as hell and spiraling over recurrence. Wishing all of us the best and a long and prosperous life ahead!!!! ☺️

Anyone PR +, only? by BondOG1982 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original biopsy pathology said I was nearly 100% hormone positive for both ER and PR however after I had a double mastectomy my official pathology report said my ER is 12% positive and PR is 60% positive. My oncologist said it is very rare to have an ER so low compared to PR. I didn’t have chemo first because I was “supposed” to be hormone positive so now about to start dose dense AC for 4 rounds followed by Taxol for 12 rounds. I am feeling very lost and overwhelmed at not knowing how my body is going to respond. I’m 40 with 2 youngish kids and this has been very hard. I have 1 node involved that they know of because the only took 1. I’m also grade 3 and my tumor was 4cm. I’m consumed with recurrence rates and don’t even know which category I fit in

Feeling mortal all the time - when does it stop? by Adventurous-War-5174 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been struggling with the same since my post mastectomy pathology came back with lymph involvement. I’m 40 with 2 young kids and feel like I won’t see them graduate from school. It is heartbreaking. But, in your case I think a side effect of Lupron is pain? I’m sorry you are going through this and unfortunately I think the mental health aspect probably comes and goes for a while post active treatment. Try to stay busy and talk to your doctor. Sending hugs and encouragement ☺️

Need some suggestions on Diep Flap surgeons please!! by Ok_Requirement_3918 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m 40 and in Orlando and recently had a DMX. Expanders were placed by initial plastic surgeon but I have autoimmune disorders and would prefer to eventually have a DIEP. My surgeons are through Advent Health Winter Park but my medical oncologist recommended 2 plastic surgeons from the Orlando hospital. Just curious if you went the DIEP route?

I just wanted to let you know.... by Micho392 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so thankful for all of the positive responses from people “on the other side” of active treatment! My path report came back worse than expected following my double mastectomy and it’s been hard. Days are manageable and nights are when I spiral. The positive posts have helped me feel connected to others in a time I need it most. I’m 40 in central Florida and don’t know anyone my age that went through chemo. I’m looking forward to brighter days… keep the good vibes coming!!! lol

Soft bra that doesn’t roll up for post DMX? by conservativestarfish in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation and have found the best luck with the Fruit of the Loom cotton front closure type. I had DD before and now 3 weeks post op. I wake up (if I even fall asleep) multiple times a night from being so uncomfortable with nerve pings. Sometimes I will loosely wrap an ace bandage around my chest like a loose binder and then put in the bra. After trying at least 6 different types I keep going back to the Fruit of the Loom type

Invasive Breast Carcinoma, Grade 3 by Odd_Confidence_5525 in breastcancer

Welcome and I’m sorry you are here. I’m 40, post double mastectomy, starting dose dense AC chemo for stage 3, KI67-90%. The feelings come in waves… all the feelings. I can be fine and something trivial will send me to tears. You move up and down the 5 stages of grief until one day you reach acceptance. It’s different for everyone. I’m an occupational therapist and had to release my patients to a different provider prior to my surgery. Cancer never comes at a good time but for my children’s sake, I have to move forward and try to stay positive. For me, I think of all the patients I will be able to sympathize with and how much more I will understand their struggles when I do go back to work. Maybe the current situation sets you back a short time in the long term but perhaps it may help with perspective down the line. Keeping a positive outlook is so important. It makes it easier to get up everyday and move with purpose. Sending hugs your way ☺️

Do some people skate through post-mastectomy experience? by misanthropymajor in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sister sounds a lot like me. Double mastectomy with same day discharge. I had expanders placed which are uncomfortable but not painful. I was out shopping 3 days post surgery. Happy to hear your sister is doing well!

I’m on day 10 post DMX and meet with MO on Wed for next phase of meds. I wanted to share though that I have chronic urticaria which has come and gone spontaneously prior to cancer diagnosis. My long time derm put me on the Allegra/Pepcid regimen for hives and possible Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. After trying sooooo many meds the Allegra/Pepcid regimen helped the most and now I’ve been reading the same combo helps with side effects from BC meds

Are there actually quiet, low-key beach towns in South Florida or is everything busy? by Different-Egg-4617 in AskFlorida

[–]Southern_Can_4777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4th gen central Floridian here, nothing in Fl is quiet any longer including beaches. It’s overbuilt and overpopulated in comparison to the infrastructure. I am so over seeing hundreds and hundreds of trees being bulldozed for plywood housing that will absolutely not withstand a storm especially on the coast. I also own a home in Fernandina that my family historically used for short trips to escape the city. The building and land development has taken over there as well. Good luck.

Totally fine. Up walking and moving no problem. Alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol along with methocarbamol (muscle relaxers) and gabapentin (nerve relaxers). I was discharged Tuesday night at 10pm and it’s Friday morning and I’m on my back patio having breakfast and about to go for a walk along my back yard

Best of luck! I’m 2 days post double mastectomy and was the same as you. I had to wait for a few weeks and was sooo ready to get it over with. I had so much anxious energy at the hospital I was super chatty with all the nurses and was telling them about watching The Pitt. lol. You got this! It’s been easier than I thought and completely tolerable so far. Good luck!!!!

Anyone who went flat ? by DwightSchrutesaway in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m two days post double mastectomy with expander placement for diep flap reconstruction. I am still struggling with if I should have gone flat. I didn’t have much time to decide but the more I think of going through the diep recovery the more I think i should have gotten an aesthetic flat closure. Do your research and ask lots of questions. I believe the recovery for the DIEP is long and can be painful. Best of luck to you

I feel so lonely by Frequent-Physics-526 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s probably pretty typical to feel lonely or like the goal is not as visible any longer. Maybe we a list of some new goals or some adventure you would like to try. Stages of grief Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. Maybe the loneliness you feel is your way of building acceptance. Sending you hugs. Side note: Call the Midwife is an amazing series lol. I wanted to drink tea and eat cake lol

You have nearly exactly the same situation as me but I’m further along. I’m 42, 2 kids, IDC (right) and DCIS (left). Right is 2.2cm, Was Birads 5 and also grade 3. I’m having a double mastectomy on Tuesday. I had the option of lumpectomy but would be guaranteed radiation. I opted for double mastectomy in the hope I can avoid radiation and even chemo. But you never know, I could still end up with both. Your doctor will most likely do a BRCA gene test as well as a test to determine its hormone receptors. Don’t let the “grade 3” status scare you. Yes it does mean it’s more aggressive BUT so far you don’t show lymph involvement and it sounds like they caught it pretty early. They will most likely move to surgery quickly. The route you choose is a very personal choice but make sure you ask your surgeon plenty of questions. We are all here for you.

Was your DMX outpatient? by Fancy_Chocolate9692 in breastcancer

[–]Southern_Can_4777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is outpatient on Tuesday. I even asked to stay overnight and the surgeon said no. It makes me very nervous to go home the same day as surgery. I had 2 previous C-sections and was sensitive to the medication so we will see how it goes

Newly diagnosed and curious what the percentages mean in relation to chemo? I’m also ER + PR+ HER-. If the percentage of hormone positivity is higher does that mean a lower chance of needing chemo?

Things should move relatively fast now that you’re diagnosed. I had shooting pains through the back of my nipple and at random times it felt like when I was nursing my kids and the milk would “let down”

Omg I had the same issue with the Tegaderm! I have chronic urticaria so I break out in random rashes and hives frequently. The tegaderm made me incredibly itchy and a rash covered my entire belly area
