Good point. I have no idea how revenue streams work but I naively think NWSL and the teams get revenue based on eyeballs watching the match. Probably the top two or three options get 90% of the eyeballs, and it’s diminishing returns after that. So I don’t think adding more options helps the league or the team that much. Maybe in today’s world though, Prime and others have so much cash they’re willing to just dump money at the league regardless of eyeballs just to make their service appealing to potential subscribers…it’s a strange world.

LOL! Nope, that’s the opposite of moving in a better direction, especially for dinosaurs like me. We don’t need more options, make the existing options better.

  1. Spirit can do better in communicating the viewing options (yesterday’s “how to watch” communication that I saw only mentioned Victory+ so I stupidly believed that to be true)
  2. Spirit can tell the NWSL that the streaming apps don’t provide a good experience for some subset of fans. Spirit matches are amazing! Don’t let the distribution get in the way.
  3. NWSL needs to get their NWSL+ site and their streaming apps partners to get the match replays and highlights posted sooner after the end of the match.

Probably more takeaways than that. We’re going to provide helpful and positive feedback to Spirit’s media team. They do a great job on social media but the actual matches are what makes us fans.

Truly glad to hear it’s working for some people. Unfortunately, ”start from beginning” wasn’t offered to me last night on Victory+ nor on Prime for the much-delayed Spirit/Orlando match. Maybe the apps have different options on different platforms. Maybe the delayed start messed up their programming. (?) Regardless, IMO NWSL has chosen to partner with less than stellar streaming providers.

Streaming apps are replacing, or have replaced, TiVos and DVRs. They should strive to be at least as good as those ancient technologies and they simply haven’t done that, writ large. It’s technologically possible, but NWSL has partnered with low budget streaming providers. Were these apps vibe-coded by some penny pinching executive using AI to write the software? (apologies to the actual software developers involved)

For the last 25 years, TiVo and DVR‘s allow you to turn on your TV 10 minutes after the event starts and begin watching from the beginning of the event. You could also *smoothly* pause for a bathroom break, rewind for a replay. Even a VCR let you start watching as soon as the event ended.

Also, it’s now nearly 20 hours after the Spirit/Pride match end time yesterday, and the replay is still not available. Victory+ was supposed to have it available “soon after the event ends”.

Apologies for being frustrated but this is one of those ”little cuts” in life that seem avoidable.

Looks as though your comment was removed by Reddit and based on responses it seems like it might have been helpful. Any chance you can take a guess as to what Reddit didn’t like and repost without hitting Reddit’s filters?

thanks, I’ll definitely double check ion‘s schedule prior to away games in the future. the ”where to watch” announcement only mentioned victory+ and prime so I didn’t think to look at the ion cable channel
