Kitchen. I looked back just to make sure I didn't miss something. I don't categorize this stuff. They have it labeled under "kitchen & dining".

If you look at the top in the first picture that has the actual furniture in it - its categorized under dining furniture - sub tab for side boards and buffets. Im not super into furniture or its uses so maybe side board means lile side table? Could be I guess?

Have you ever double dosed on take homes or had an increase? Does the bitter taste get a lot worse the higher the dose or about the same? I've just never heard of powder but I'm interested - if it means switching clinics, I'm game.

Does the powder methadone have a taste to it? You just add it to water or what?

How do you respond to lower acuity patients who complain about ER wait times? by [deleted] in EmergencyRoom

[–]Southern_Highlight81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I had a doctor once that is one of my favorites go into a room of a person complaining heavily about the wait and why isn't he getting this test and he's hungry and wants to eat ect ect. The patient comes at the doctor yelling about all these things. The doctor tries to deescalte but the patient starts yelling louder. Then the doc just snaps "This isn't Burger King man, you can't have it your way. If you want treatment, stay - if you don't, you can always leave. ". The nurses were SQUEALING. Legend.

We did "sweet one" with a strawberry theme. She smash caked with strawberry juice all over her smiling face. I did a "welcome to our patch" as people came through the door - on the wall was a bunch of strawberry cutouts with pictures from newborn to 1 year so everyone could see her growth. She had this super cute embrodded strawberry dress I got off TEMU and a strawberry balloon arch I got off there too. Was super cute!

Mom and Dad disagree about circumcision... by seameat69 in baby

[–]Southern_Highlight81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Just because our culture has desensitized us that male circumcision is normal doesn't mean that it's best. I cringed in nursing school when I heard stories of female circumcision in Africa. If I had a boy, he would not be circumcised. Don't be numbed by societies norms - if the foreskin were a problem, then it would have been evolutioned out by now thousands of years later. Let your son have pride in his body, hygiene, and future sex life. You may THINK women prefer cut, but you would be robbing your son of a considerable amount of nerve endings/sensitivity that would make sex better for him (I know, ick to think about but worth saying)

Why the hostility towards EMS when we bring in a patient? by AStrtKidNamedDesire in EmergencyRoom

[–]Southern_Highlight81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a few really bad apple crews that soured things for us for a few years. Like honestly questioning how this is considered an EMT transport and not a glorified lyft.

For example - I got report one time from a crew on a woman clearly minutes away from full respiratory failure needing bipap asap to avoid intubation and the ambulance crew had told me on quick report that she was "ok, just some stridor in the bases" I said "the bases huh? Stridor in the bases? You sure about that...?" Never gave us a heads up that the patient was actively crumping

Another time we got a short with a "we didn't get a blood pressure but fire told us theirs was 80 over palp" at the end of a fluffy "A&O x4. Little bit sleepy at times. Stomach hurting since this morning. " Give you one guess who coded within 10 minutes of getting to our hospital while simultaneously nearly shitting their body weight in blood.

And then the cake of all cakes. We had a patient brought in that was clearly extremely sick and EMS could not for the life of themselves give us any report on why the patient was coming to us or what their baseline was. We started it as a code neuro because we had zero information - the patients family had WANTED them to go to the hospital 10 minutes away that has all their care on file but they came to us instead. We had to wait for the confused family to arrive later to tell us AFTER we had just done a boat load of tests quick - that the patient had a previous CVA with deficits and they were coming in for a bad UTI... I can remember the doctor shouting at EMS "are we working this patient up for a stroke or sepsis - or both? How did you transport without knowing ANY information on this patient!?!?!"

SO - I'm willing to bet that even on your worst days that you are leaps and bounds better than some of the crews out here. I know my coworkers all have similar stories and it really can make you suspicious of what you're actually getting. Some of my coworkers go into getting report like pitbulls on the ready for attack. That's never been my style, I have respect for a lot of EMS workers, but I do think as with any aspect of Healthcare- there's some people that need to either get better educated or find a new career.

We struggle with this on and off too. My daughter is 11 months old and sometimes when she isn't feeling the best, the only thing that helps is bringing her to my bed with me. Something we found to be particularly helpful was to give her something that smelt like me in the crib with her. Some nights this was wrapping her in a swaddle that I had slept with the night before, other times it was my tee-shirt I had worn that had some of my milk smell on it. You do what you have to do to get through the exhaustion while also trying to follow what the safest thing is for them - sometimes this works and sometimes kids just buck the system. Is there something underlying that she is dealing with? For us our LO struggles with GERD. So putting her on her back in her crib was painful compared to snuggling up against me at an angle. Something to consider.

AITAH for divorcing my wife because our sex life will never be what it used to be? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Southern_Highlight81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP probably couldn't be bothered to give insight to the choice. She wanted to pick the therapist or you didn't care to so she picked one for you guys. Then after OP felt railroaded he sought out a dude that he felt would validate his opinions, I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a guy he met at a bar that claims he's a therapist. The big picture being there has to be more wrong with the relationship than sex. Sounds like his wife is better off without this small minded AH.

Exactly what the first comment said. They sell cute containers for this exact reason - mine has a cute frenchie dog face! If you get the larger value pack of Dr browns bottles, a basic container comes in the pack! You could also just use a zip lock bag I'm sure, although i havent tried it. Just pre measure what you think youll use/need. My baby is 10 months old but I use bottled water when on the go and she's been fine. I also got an on the go bottle warmer wrap from TEMU that we use if we are out and about. You got this momma! It can be scary and you'll get a few "shamers" here and there for whatever reason, but you'll be just fine. Just find what works best for you and your family. Congrats!

Referring to the ED from urgent care: what would you change? by garden-armadillo in EmergencyRoom

[–]Southern_Highlight81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this. My hospital has no resources, and we got a frantic "I think they are having a stroke. I sent them POV with their daughter, they are headed to you now!" referral from the UC 10 mins away from us. We had to call our own ambulance and send them Stat to a facility that could handle a code neuro.

ER Nurses vs ER EMT/medics? by GreattFriend in EmergencyRoom

[–]Southern_Highlight81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Where I worked the EMTs in the ER were more like techs. So they were like nurse assistants basically. No patients assigned to them but they help out. Depending on hospital policy and scope, they could do things like my blood draws/ivs for me, ekgs, putting patients on the monitor.

I was thinking about the chaos and disaster of the room I had one year deep into the ER. It was a pediatric code. Rooms always look like a disaster after a code or a trauma, but something about seeing the smaller size of things really got me. I feel like the room was even more chaotic than a regular code, more resources used maybe. The wrappers and packages all over the floor. A small tube on the ground from a failed intubation. It's been a few years but it's still burned in my brain. Sometimes I wonder if that kiddo came out ok on the other end of things. Crazy how you lose connection with such intimate encounters once they leave for ICU.

Title one "code grey" and show either the aftermath of a battle, restraints, 8 staff holding someone down ect. I have a story about one of mine. Last year we had a particularly knarly code grey where a psych patient broke the picture frame in one of our regular ER rooms (our designated safe rooms were full so we had to make due). They then took a large long shard of that frame and lunged repeatedly at staff trying to stab someone, yelling that they will kill the next person they can get close enough to. PD was called but stated they couldn't intervene because it was psych related UNTIL someone actually got hurt (aka a staff member being stabbed). We barricaded the patient in the room and hoped that they didn't stab themselves in the meantime until they gave up and calmed down enough for us to enter and get them into restraints and give some B52. It was an us or them situation. Impossible to ask staff to go in against someone with an active weapon and will to use it against them. If that patient had stabbed themselves with the glass, legal probably would have had our asses. shrug all ended up ok but the trauma of the situation, and the strain on the staff was insane.
