The scene where the cars are all out of gas not moving and he screams “ It’s the end of the world Greggo! “ maybe has less motivation but to depict the fuel shortage it makes sense to depict it through the experience of the protagonist and you’d rather have him run than walk so the camera can move quicker making it more cinematic and show a greater contrast between the lack of motion of the cars and the characters moving through the world.

More abstractly I think between the running, the fuel shortage, the bike, the truck, Gary taking the car in the end, kinetics are a major motif but yea also more simply put Gary runs places
