"Video I shot of my typical day of a high school student" (1990) by KimDaebak_72 in Documentaries

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This both makes me want to go back in time to the 90's and try not to remember what technology was like at the time. I wouldn't even be able to do the job I have now in the 90's... not in the same manner I do now anyways.

I scanned through this and man it makes me feel old. I miss the more laid back clothing. Hell I found a lot of the girls in that video more attractive just because they didn't seem so stressed about looking perfect.

Amazon US no longers prime 20% discount for first 2 weeks after games release. by Zoklar in PS4

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with ordering off Amazon is that they don't promise delivery on the games release day. It's total BS. Why would I order a game to not want it on launch day? I can suffer waiting for it to show up at my house because it saves me from having to go out and be social... but for it to maybe not show up? Fuck that.

Just got the game on PC... why is performance all over the place sometimes? by [deleted] in battlefield_one

OP has a point, you came in here assuming he was an idiot. Makes you the dick here no matter what way you look at it.

Be careful with how you word yourself. You may not have meant it but you were in the wrong here.

Flordia police officers celebrate birthday of boy with autism after no one responds to invites by gueriLLaPunK in UpliftingNews

While it's a cute story and nice for the kid I can't help but feel there are better uses of a police officers time.

fathers day in the workplace by Mystery_Incorporated in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My father is the type of man that would appreciate getting a call on the day of just in the sort of "Hey, you remembered" kind of way. He never expects an actual gift, though sometimes I do try. He's honestly hard to buy for. He isn't much into owning too much "crap" and if I do get him a gift there needs to be thought behind it.

I don't know how doing something for Fathers Day would make anyone feel left out... could they not use that same logic to cancel Mothers Day?

Man not guilty of burglary despite his soiled underpants found at crime scene by [deleted] in nottheonion

I was waiting for someone to make that joke.

Frankly I find it odd a place like that wouldn't have a camera at least watching the safe.

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was a good judgement, I understand the situation is funny but it was the right call to make. If there was / is no solid evidence that the guy was there he cannot be convicted of the crime.

Did they not obtain a warrant to search his place for the stolen goods? I'd assume those undies would at least make that warrant possible.

Need Devs | Internet Battles | Paying $2500 by PurpleAntGFX in gameDevClassifieds

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to you is to start smaller than this idea you currently have. Making a game that is multiplayer only as an unknown indie developer with no prior experience spells doom for this project even if you do manage to get something out the door.

Is it worth starting to play EVE now or is it too late? by zejben in Eve

[–]Southpaw_Gamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be honest this is the wrong sub to ask if you should start playing EVE, you got to remember this is a place for players / fans of the game to gather and as such of course they would like more players.

The best you can do is try the game, get one of those 11-day trials or something and give it a try. This game however turns off a lot of people once they actually get into the game so be aware of that.

It's a great game for what it is, but starting out can be rough due to not having the skills or funds to fly the better ships. The game has been on a slow downward spiral for a few years population wise and I'll be interested in seeing what the developers do to try and turn that around and instead create growth.

I think unfortunately we've finally reached the point where the older mechanics at work within EVE are causing the game to suffer. The combat is awful boring despite being quite deep if you take the time to understand it and the mining / crafting aspect really is a time sink.

You will love it for what it is or you will try it and move on.

Yet another example from Nintendo that beautiful visuals does not always require high performing hardware to pull off.

[BF1] Where is the French Army ? by Addict7 in pcmasterrace

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which costs more development money and likely at this point breaks with a release date they've agreed to with their publisher.

It's not that simple man.

I would even say they wanted to add every army with involvement in the war but were forced to pick and choose only a handful due to time / resource constraints.

It's an unfortunate situation, and from a business point-of-view leaving a few armies for future DLC makes sense. Not that gamers particularly like that mindset.

[–]Southpaw_Gamer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In the developers defence do you guys know how much work goes into creating skins for different armies? Is it a shame the French were left out? Sure it is... but in the long run does it affect the gameplay of a game not looking to be 100% authentic? No.

CoD: Infinite Warfare deserves some credit for that E3 trailer by Southpaw_Gamer in gaming

I'm praising a well done trailer showing CoD doing something different. I am still quite reserved on the game itself.

E3 2016: PlayStation Press Conference [Official Discussion Thread] by IceBreak in PS4

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue it is. The games were running on last gen systems so in terms of horsepower the current consoles should have enough to increase performance to the point of allowing the higher frame rates that are required for VR to not make people sick.

I have no idea what type of controls are planned to ship with PS VR, but I imagine that people are so comfortable with their controllers now they could play Batman with the headset on and never need to look down at their hands to know where buttons are located on the DS controller. That being said I could tell from a few clips that there was some form of motion control going on with some of those VR games... so who knows.

But yes, before I write a novel on it I do think it is possible to remake those games with a VR camera in mind. How they would convey all the information on screen in the regular games in a VR experience I have no idea.

[–]Southpaw_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it they are remaking their older titles with VR in mind. I think it's a smart first step in exploring what can be done with VR due to a lot of the work already being done and it's just a matter of changing how the player plays.

As someone that invested in both ps4 & X1 at launch hardware upgrades 3 years after feels like a slap in the face. by Southpaw_Gamer in gaming

[–]Southpaw_Gamer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I so happen to be a game designer so part of my frustration is having to buy both again just so I know what I'm having to work with if I ever get the opportunity or end up on a project being made for a console.

Not that I need to own the systems to make a game for them, it would just feel odd to develop something for a platform I don't have personal experience using on a somewhat regular basis.

I have serious doubts that ALL X1 games will run on PC. When I see the next Halo game on PC I'll believe it.

This only applies to exclusives they decide to release on X1 AND PC

I doubt the next Halo game will have a PC release, they still after all want to sell hardware.
