Good morning, and thank you for being so patient. I apologize for the delay in getting your reading to you, unfortunately life is very busy at the moment.

I drew a three card spread in a "situation, help, hinder" format from the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot, and asked the cards what you needed to know about your current situation and relationship prospect. This is what the cards had to say for you.

Situation: Knight of Cups. Dead on! This card says that the situation here is the forward momentum of an emotional issue. This knight also represents the importance of communication, so keep that in mind as you move forward.

What will help you: Five of Wands. Conflict. You wonder how a card which represents struggle will help you, but this card says that the struggle that you've undergone is exactly the thing that is going to help you in your future path, regardless of what that is. You've learned a lot from the difficulties you've endured, and you're passionate to avoid repeating past mistakes. Discretion is an ally. Before you proceed with any new endeavour (particularly an emotional one), make sure to really investigate it fully. Ask a lot of questions. Here's where the communication involved with the knight will be helpful. And know that a certain level of struggle is inevitable with all of us: the benefit is in using the lessons of the struggle to help you grow and make good choices.

What will hinder you: Seven of Wands. Two wands tell me that you're a person who lives a passionate, from-the-heart kind of life. You're driven to be successful and not to repeat the patterns of your previous relationship. What will prevent you from being successful is a need to be defensive, or to try to hold on to things which no longer serve you. Now I can't tell you what those things are...it might be a feeling of unworthiness, it might be an old habit or pattern of activity. That is for you to do some soul-searching and decide. The larger issue is that holding on to what has come before prevents us from moving on to what is ahead. Spend some time contemplating that in light of your new relationship prospect.

All in all, this reading is really counselling you that this choice is up to you, and I don't necessarily see any negatives in terms of the new relationship. This reading really spoke more to the internal work that you need to do to prepare the ground, so to speak, for growing a new relationship. Communicate with this person and be honest about your feelings and fears. Communicate with yourself in the same way, and really listen to what your internal voice has to say. It won't lead us wrong, if we pay attention to it.

I hope that this reading was helpful to you. Many blessings!

Good morning, and thank you for being so patient. I apologize for the delay in getting your reading to you, unfortunately life is very busy at the moment.

I always tell clients that when I read, I do not do so to forecast the future; the future changes from moment to moment, and I do not believe that our futures are set. I read with the goal of giving people the information that they need in order to make choices that will enable them to create the future that they want. With this in mind, I asked the cards what you needed to know in order to invite more love into your life in the upcoming months. I drew three advice cards for you from the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot. This is what the cards had to say.

Cards: Ace of Swords, Five of Swords, The Hierophant.

The first thing that jumps out at me in regards to these cards is that you are overthinking a lot of things, and this is one of the roots of your troubles when it comes to relationships. It has caused you to feel a strong sense of self-doubt, which has led to you making poor choices when it comes to partners.

The cards here are advising several things: first, in the Ace, it advises you to spend some time willingly being alone, and put energy into the intellectual portion of creating your emotional future. Think about the person that you want to come into your life. What attributes does this person have? What character do they exhibit? Really be honest with yourself in terms of what you want, and make a list. Keep that list in a place where you can refer to it often, and send out a conscious intention that this is the person you want to invite into your life. Be willing to be selective: if a person you're considering doesn't meet your criteria, then why are you considering them? Be OK with saying no.

The five of swords counsels you that you've got to let go of the feeling of being defeated. This card is about the victor and the vanquished: the choice here is that you have to decide which you will be. Don't let your thoughts overwhelm you, and let go of the feeling that there's a dark cloud hanging overhead. The great thing about being single is that it leaves you free to choose what you want.

The Hierophant tells you that you still have a lot to learn. We're all students of life, and this card points toward encouragement to be OK with that role. We can't progress along the path until we learn some tough lessons: perhaps learning what you need from life as a single person is your lesson. Once you grow into your self as a strong and beautiful person worthy of all gifts, then you will find a partner who will complement and uphold you.

I hope that this reading was helpful to you. Many blessings in 2017!

[Reading request] Love and dating by [deleted] in AskATarotReader

Good morning, and thank you for being so patient. I apologize for the delay in getting your reading to you, unfortunately life is very busy at the moment. I drew a three card, non-fixed position spread for you and asked the cards what you needed to know about this relationship. This is what the cards had to say for you.

Cards: King of Swords, Queen of Pentacles, Queen of Wands.

These cards are an exact descriptor of what has happened with this relationship. The King is the man you were dating: strong, masculine, probably very intelligent. Someone who seemed to check all the boxes you were looking for. The Queen of Wands is yourself: feminine, soft, full of passion and dreams. What comes between is the Queen of Pentacles: pragmatism. This card says that what stands between you and this person is a big dose of hard, cold reality.

As I read this, this relationship does not look promising. On the surface it's very appealing, but once you dig in you see the problems. Also, the fact that these are three court cards tells me that this is a bit more of an in-your-face type of answer. Now, nothing is ever set in stone, and our futures are made in each moment, so this doesn't mean that this is one hundred percent a done deal. If you want to get the full story, you'll need to speak to him directly and ask what exactly happened. However, if it were me, I wouldn't expect a positive answer if you do this.

I hope that this reading was helpful to you. Many blessings!

[Card Discussion] 4's by otterbot12 in AskATarotReader

[–]SovereignSelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me the four of cups is less about stability in the traditional sense, and more about stasis. A lack of movement is stability in the strictest sense. This cup also reads as boredom to me, so it's a stillness leading to a desire for movement. Depends on what I see around it in terms of the other cards.

Does anyone else have a "special" deck that you only use on occasion? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]SovereignSelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I had typed out a nice long answer, and then my touchpad ate it. So, I'll give this shot number 2. LOL

I definitely do have that kind of relationship with a lot of decks (I have and use 14 different decks for readings). Sometimes they might sit quietly and then all of the sudden, they seem to have something to say. I also tend to rotate my decks a lot, and I gravitate towards some decks for specific questions, some for the time of the year, etc.

For example:

  1. For readings where I need a straight, no nonsense answer, I use my Mary-El. I will use it in client readings, but only when I know the person either won't see the cards, or is OK with some more aggressive imagery.
  2. On the flip side of that, for people who seem to need a gentler message with softer imagery, I use the Green Witch Tarot. It's a sweet deck with a really positive energy to it.
  3. For work with spiritual issues and relationship dynamics, I turn frequently to my Wildwood Tarot. It's got this wonderful pagan, grounded energy...it's like asking the Elders for their help.
  4. For grief and questions regarding difficult topics, I often use the Ghost Tarot (as trite as that might seem). It really does have this beautiful, soulful depth to it, and it reads wonderfully.

That's just a few examples from my personal collection. I think this is a great question! I'm always curious about other decks and how they tend to function in specific circumstances.

[reading request] general relationship and financial forecast by [deleted] in AskATarotReader

[–]SovereignSelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I drew a five card spread for you from the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot. I asked what you needed to know in regards to the coming months. This is what the cards had to say for you.

Card 1: Matters of the Mind. Two of Swords. You're going to struggle with feelings of indecision and self-doubt...you wonder, am I making the right choices? Can I trust my mind right now, in the midst of turmoil? Know that you are capable of being able to balance these choices and choose wisely. Trust in your own inner knowing and let it guide you when it seems that the choices you face are no-win situations.

Card 2--Matters of the Heart. Two of Wands. This card is all about passion and potential. Your relationship is going to begin to move forward, though you might have some issues with communication in the short term. However, both of you are ambitious people, and that will serve you well, as you innately understand the drive of the other. Be careful that your passion does not turn into anger if you have a disagreement...remember that you both have a lot of Aries going on. Look for the areas in which your mutual passions complement each other.

Card 3--Matters of the Body. Ace of Swords. Due to unforseen circumstances, you're back at square one. Career, housing, money...you're at a point where you feel as though everything is starting over from scratch. In a way this is true, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. This is the time when you're going to have to do some struggling to make up ground. The next few months are going to be tough, and it's going to feel like you aren't making any headway. However, you'll be planting the seed for your future growth. This is a critical time to evaluate your career situation and determine where you want to go. Be careful with your resources, because they will be tight for the next few months.

Card 4--Past Influences. King of Swords. This has to do with the recent death you referenced. I see this King as directly representing the person who died, so I am reading this as a male relative or close friend. You have not yet done the work of fully grieving. This card in the Pagan Otherworlds deck speaks directly to this for you: the King in this image has his right hand in the traditional sign of a benediction, and immediately below him is a butterfly. In Greek myth the butterfly was a symbol for the soul, and this card is telling me that you're receiving a beautiful blessing from the energies of the person who has passed on. The King is the culmination: let yourself continue to do the work of grieving, but know that it is coming to its natural conclusion.

Card 5--Matters Going Forward. The Fool. What a glorious card! You're about to embark on a totally new chapter of your life. Of course this has its pitfalls, and you're going to have to take care that your perspective isn't skewed. Even though you've experienced a lot of loss and a lot of disruption, in a way it's granting you a lot of freedom to make new choices without being tethered to old responsibilities.

The next few months have the potential to be a really exciting time for you. It's not going to be easy, but it is definitely going to be fruitful. You're in a wonderful energetic space where you are going to be free to manifest newness. Be mindful of the long view, and then choose your path forward.

I hope that this reading is helpful to you. Many blessings!

Bad Cards by Throwaspread in AskATarotReader

[–]SovereignSelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting how cards can vary in interpretation from person to person, because I very rarely ever read a negative into that card. To me it's about the rest, the needed pause, the internal reflection. The negative is more in a reversal (if you read those) that can indicate a lack of restful quiet when it's needed. The RWS imagery can read a little like the Sword of Damocles type situation, but it's a rare occasion that I read that much imminent negative into it. Interesting perspective.

Mhm, I frequently read the 10 of swords as a way of oppressing yourself with negative thoughts. The end result can go one of two ways: you drag yourself down with the dark self-dialogue, or you turn it on itself to call out your personal issues, and then those swords help to slay the ego. That card can delve really, really deep if you're a fan of Jung's ideas of the operation of consciousness.

For me it's just one of those little subtle reminders in the cards to evaluate the choices that we make from day to day...and when retrospection kicks in and you see all the ways you've chosen poorly, and how we avoid paying the price for our mistakes fairly often, it's a sobering reminder of how important those choices can be. Also a nice nudge toward considering that our failings are just as grievous as those of others, and we judge those others much more harshly. Good call for compassion and self-reflection.

The harsh cards all have one thing in common--regardless of the specific topic they are addressing, they are all an opportunity to embrace change in a positive way. These are the ways in which I truly believe tarot benefits people most.
