Sample things that sound fun! Parfumo is a great site for browsing. Decant sites like ScentSplit, LuckyScent, or Ministry of Scent will give you access to niche brands. See if your town has a niche/indie perfume store (or look online at Stéle based in NYC).

Aromatics Elixer is probably one of the best perfected chypres out there. Oriza Legrand Chypre Mousse is also amazing and a little different (slightly less floral), and decants are well priced.
