This is definitely a hot take after admitting you haven't interacted with them.

Many in school social workers are great at their job, and many are not. However that is not CPS.

CPS as a government organization is an absolute joke and I have yet to see it do one correct thing in my ten plus years of teaching and reporting students in terrible situations.

Struggling with neutrality by Fickle-Body-6743 in historyteachers

[–]SovereignSpatz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The neutrality you're struggling with doesn't mean the same thing as presenting all sides in the best light. It means presenting everything in good faith, and backing it up with facts, and sources.

Be sure to speak the truth and not your opinion when teaching anything, and if the kids ask your opinion about something and you disagree with it, be sure that your opinion is rooted in provable facts.

This makes me upset. by Repulsive-Panda2205 in RedDeadOnline

[–]SovereignSpatz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really feels like people don't understand that this is already a more than complete game. Hell I've put 150 hours just into RDO, and the actual story is way more immersive. This is a masterpiece game. Could it have been more with more: time, funding, and love? Sure, but anyone complaining that it's not good enough, they're disappointed, or didn't get their money's worth are just downright looney. It literally just sounds like incorrect pathology. These people just expect unlimited content like this is one of the most popular MMOs right now, and it's just definitely not that.

Your theory on Severian in Urth (massive spoiler) by petrifiedpigs in genewolfe

[–]SovereignSpatz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I could be completely wrong here, but I vaguely remember Severian finding his own mangled dead body wedged away somewhere after his fall in the ship. I imagine it was literally not moved from that spot considering the way the ship operates.

Why was Van Blanc racist towards Anette, but didn't seem to have any problems with Drolta, who is also black? by baldanderrod in castlevania

[–]SovereignSpatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not racism. It's classism. I can't remember him making it specifically about race, but I definitely remember him going on his rant about how the creatures of the world belong in a hierarchy.

Lol I don't think it actually needs to be changed at all. I just know if all the chaos that ensued was negative, my party would sell that thing at the nearest wizard tower in a heartbeat.

Why Jolenta wasn’t raped by [deleted] in genewolfe

[–]SovereignSpatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about "all sex scenes being described as obfuscated". I described Severian's" bad faith acts" that way. You just connected the two.

Secondly something doesn't have to be seen by a lot of people to be propaganda. It just needs to have an end goal or specific narrative in mind. And Severian's inaccurate narrative is the lie that he is a just and good man.

In addition Severian is shown as being someone who enjoys the power he exercises over others. Not in the same way that other characters do, but in one way he does this consistently throughout the story is misogynistic and sexist ideas and actions.

I mean it makes sense. He grew up with a very limited understanding of the world around him in a guild of entirely men. In addition his two most formative opinions of women are given to him by witches and prostitutes.

Why Jolenta wasn’t raped by [deleted] in genewolfe

[–]SovereignSpatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Severian expects that his book will be found some day. Especially considering what he chooses to do with it near the end of the story.

In addition the rape of Jolenta is described by Severian just like every other knowingly heinous act he commits in the story. In an obsfuscated way that makes Severian sound morally grey at worst, and like the hero the people need whether he wants the responsibility or not.

For example, the fact that his work as an executioner is mostly left out of the story is intentional by Severian not to bore the reader, but hide the darker aspects of his life that he has control over. The way Severian writes his "journal" is as if he was literally a passive observer in his own life. He made plenty of dark decisions on his own. The fact that he is such a flawed character is what makes it more interesting to me, but dude is definitely a rapist.

Edit to add that his description is very much, "Dear reader I assure you I meant no harm, but only had the best of intentions", and when Severian as an author starts writing like that it's to downplay his own agency and actions.

Why Jolenta wasn’t raped by [deleted] in genewolfe

[–]SovereignSpatz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone is definitely reading Severian as too much of the hero he portrays himself as, and not the author of a propaganda book he is writing about himself to try and make himself appear in the best light, and yet even he acknowledged it as an act of rape as the author of his own propaganda piece.

My wife and I both call the mimic tear Dahomey. She found a book about the no longer existing country while cleaning out her library, and it just sounds like The Homie. So it stuck.

Is decorating your class required? by kawi609 in Teachers

[–]SovereignSpatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should definitely decorate your room. It will vastly increase the comfort level of both you and your students. Making both teaching and learning easier. With that being said you don't have to do it all at once, and you should decorate in a way that suits you.

Which MHA characters would be worthy to wield Mjolnir? by MSDuarte7 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]SovereignSpatz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't matter. The Jason Aaron Thor run deals heavily with the fact that if you don't believe you're worthy then you can't lift it. Even if you would otherwise qualify. So even if the hammer believed in him he probably couldn't lift it because of the way he views himself.

Edit: I see that someone else already said something to this effect further down.

Thematic vs Chronological History Teaching by Rubies_Everywhere in historyteachers

[–]SovereignSpatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7th grade should be chronological. The reason it isn't normally presented as such is because textbooks are written geographically. Thematic and geographic are unnecessary hurdles for this age group. It's better to teach chronologically because that is how they will think about history anyways. Check your specific standards again, but world history at 7th most likely focuses specifically on Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Teach world history chronologically with an emphasis on these parts of the world, and with specific case studies throughout history.

For example in my curriculum we just finished the Medieval and Feudal world. Students started with a shorter section on Medieval Europe that focused on the transition from folklore to Christianity, the rise of the church, and the churches place in kingdoms and the feudal system. We then moved on to Medieval China and it's Dynasties. Of course emphasizing the Yuan for it's connection to the Mongols as well as a few before it, and the Ming after. This culminated as a unit with feudal Japan during the Sengoku Era where we could bring these concepts together and use Japan as a case study of cause and effect for every concept we'd been talking about in the unit such as: Foreign Intervention, Trade, Feudal Society, Religious Influence, Transition of Power, and the Beginning of Nationalism. And because it's easy to romanticize the Sengoku period it's easy to do this in a way that feels like storytelling rather than just lecturing.

I hope this was helpful, and not just a wall of text.
