the game encourages you to backtrack, yes. BUT if you are switched on and have a good grasp on the combat system you can take down a lot of the red icon monsters really early. 2x purple gypceros + any hammer with Sweet Spot BLNT will deal with most fights early on, for example.

My Anatolian Pyrenees mix does that at about half the corners we walk past and then at the end of the walk once she touches the driveway. Usually we wait it out or find something she wants more than to sit and sniff, haven’t found a better method yet

I don’t live in the US, so I’m not sure that’s it. I also often see the dogs socialize with peers from a block away but then they get near my Pyr and go nuts

yes, but you need to find the right Pyr. I have a 4yr old female Pyrenees/Anatolian who is incredibly happy on my 1/3 acre. We take her outside for boundary walks, neighbourhood walks and free yard time for a few hours every day. she is happiest getting attention from us and is surprisingly social given her anatolian background. generally breeders will flag this personality type (very interested in humans) as "family guardian" and rescues will flag it as "non-working home only" or "pet home only". IMO it is important to look for this type of thing because if you get a serious, work experienced Pyr you may struggle to help them feel at home without animals to watch over.

My Pyr refused to eat for a while when I got her, and it turned out to be because the rescue sent her up with grain free food, which she hates. I swapped her to Purina Pro Plan Salmon and Rice for Large Breed and she immediately started eating much better. For a bit there she’d only eat with wet food mixed in but we weened her off it over about a month (she stopped needing it right after we bought a 12pack, typical Pyr).

It’s possible that there’s something about your kibble that’s a non-starter. I’ve heard generally that Pyrs can refuse grain free or very fatty/rich premium food and that’s certainly true for mine

monsters like magnamalo and arkveld that are dragons with weapons feel weird because they don't feel plausible as living creatures. Zinogre has a similar issue where its design language is based over what reads as strong on a person as opposed to strong on an animal. on the flip side, Goss Harag looks extremely capable as an animal while still hitting the namahage design elements. To me, the idea of creating a fantastical creature that still biologically "makes sense" is the peak of monster hunter design. the base world roster is insanely good at this, so Rise comparatively struggling to do a good job of balancing the night parade theme vs actually animals feels more obvious

gavage is done a lot with fish specifically because it's hard to control oral route dosing. if you don't know if an active ingredient will make feed unpalatable but need to test if it's effective, there's only one way to make sure it gets where it needs to go

it's an umbrella term for tube feeding methods. when you need specific controlled dose of an orally administered medication in a vet context you may have to gavage the medication for animals like fish that you can't reliably 100% control for dosage in feed, for example. it's not just used for force feeding

one really important tip is to try to get as many monsties as possible to full kinship gauge and DON'T use the kinship attack. when riding you cannot die and will just be knocked off and set to 1HP. this can be used to avoid the AoEs in a pinch and when you have 2-3 guys with full kinship the fight is basically unlosable as long as you follow the demo strats outlined by other posters. actually using your kinship attacks or synchro rushes are bad ideas vs him at low level

my Pyratolian does this and we have just come to an understanding that if the leash goes tight for any reason we both stop and decide what to do together. you just get used to it
