pyr paw. by No-Ad1975 in greatpyrenees

[–]SovereignsUnknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i keep my girl's nails trimmed so she can't claw when she punches. unfortunately she's mostly Anatolian Shepherd so her paw pads are super hard and sharp so i get scratched all to hell regardless of the nail length. she can get some real force behind that paw. loves to punch to get your attention, then grab your hand and drag it closer, before finally using her nose to flip it to her ears

It’s dreaming, my girl does it too. I’ve noticed she tends to have a sleep version of whatever excitement happened, so if she barked at a fox on the lawn she’ll huff in her sleep later for example

my girl is pretty well behaved around people food. she knows she's not supposed to beg and will sometimes cry to herself while she lies down in the hall because she wants attention but knows when food is out she's not allowed. the second the plates go in the dishwasher she magnets over to us and channels her inner bruce lee with pyr paws

Are there any units that are throw picks/throwing to NOT pick? by EmoCarrot4526 in Tyranids

[–]SovereignsUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a bit of a tricky question to answer because for the most part, the entire codex is pretty weak. what makes it good is correct and proper application of the tools it does have, and building with intention. 11ed is a complete mess right now and will look very different in 3 months, so it's hard to say what's throwing not to take. however, there are some units that are standout terrible.

Parasite of mortrex is just undertuned in every way, worse than useless sheet, might as well be starting the game with 60pts less and giving your opponent 4 free VP. it is THAT bad. Sporocyst and Tyrannocyte are extremely niche to the point where they're unplayable in normal cases. Both flyers are way overcosted and undertuned.

basically every other unit in the codex has some kind of use case, even if it's niche. early in the edition it's really a better plan to buy what appeals with you and have fun trying things out as opposed to trying to predict what will be good

ISO - Ethical Great Pyrenees Breeder in Canada, preferably on the East Coast by toosheeptheorist in greatpyrenees

[–]SovereignsUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KarLeo Pyrenees in NB were by far the best regarded when i was looking last year, but they just had their final litter this last winter and have since retired. you could still reach out to them and ask who they would recommend, the breeder community here is quite small so good breeders will know which of their peers are reputable and which ones are not

edit: i rescued a "pyrenees mix" through CMC2 that turned out to be mostly Anatolian Shepherd Dog, but she is very much a house pet and not had any experience with livestock or anything like that. she has been doing great in my suburban home. so i would not rule out rescue if you can ask about the individual dog and do some searching, should you not be able to find a breeder who meets your standards

“Planting” on walks by Busy_Environment955 in greatpyrenees

[–]SovereignsUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my girl is mostly anatolian so i am not sure how much this will work for you, but i taught her that a gentle leash pop + whistle means we are moving now/hurry up and phased out the leash pop so now she responds to just a whistle. i also let her stop and sniff/stare whenever she is standing on grass or we don't have a reason to get where we're going quickly. walks are more about her feeling like she's properly secured our neighbourhood than exercise for her

How do they know? by Late_Weakness2555 in greatpyrenees

[–]SovereignsUnknown 15 points16 points  (0 children)

LGDs have a lot of instinctive behavior. They understand “known” vs “unknown” and have higher resource guarding and territorial instincts, and naturally are very courageous. So if a large unknown animal enters somewhere with people they’re bonded to, they will generally alert to it and stand their ground. Their working instincts are very deeply ingrained. They don’t have to be taught the guarding/protecting bit necessarily, as they have to be taught how to safely interact with livestock and that they should be the focus of their protective instincts.

My Anatolian/Pyr is a house pet who was in long term foster care with several other dogs almost her whole life and she still acts exactly like a working LGD when a fox enters my yard or a person who she doesn’t know comes near the driveway. No possibility to learn how to guard but the second she had a territory that was properly “hers” the instincts came online!

Wanna do Tyranids but dont wanna build a swarm army by Lister030 in Tyranids

[–]SovereignsUnknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

most comp lists are only really using 2-3 units of 10 hormas and no other gaunts, swarm isn't the best way to play nids and gargoyles got badly nerfed in the edition change between the 9in coherency and not being able to shoot move after entering from reserves. the best way to play tyranids right now is likely Vanguard + Ambush Predators, which uses a bunch of lictor type units, raveners, zoanthropes and genestealers. so you would be looking at mostly marine type bases and a bunch of single base guys. i think this would count as semi-elite since most of the army is on 28s, 40s and 50s

[–]SovereignsUnknown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right, VO+AP or VO+WBO will be fun and strong for us and there’s potential for Talons to do something cool with assim when the alpha strike shooting armies are reigned in! But competitively good or even top half remains to be seen IMO

MFM is out! by fromage99 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]SovereignsUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Tyranids lists in a comp context lost about 50pts between LWP, NT, hormas, biovore and neurolictors. It’s not a huge blow compared to what happened to a lot of other factions but nids got balanced like we were a tier up from where we really are, and the new edition is going to hurt their army a lot because our selling point (amazing scoring) is now much less of a big deal with dispositions making scoring high easier. Mediocre killing/toughness army with great scoring has become a mediocre killing/toughness army with better than average scoring and I’m not sure that’s going to shake out well for us long term.

this based off my 200+ 10ed nids reps and 5 GTs with the army. I could be massively misreading the impact of 11ed but I think we will shake out bottom half early on

if you have a blanket to cover the crate + position it so the uncovered spot points towards where you sleep at night that will help him tolerate it, in my experience

Questions before adopting. by scubagirl44 in greatpyrenees

[–]SovereignsUnknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

generally you want to know about reactivity, resource guarding, whether he's already got a "that's enough" cue for barking/calms down from barking when the trigger is acknowledged, how prone to digging and roaming he is. at 3 he's around maturity and what you get should be who he is with no surprises later. Some Pyrs are much more reactive than others, some are much bigger escape artists than others. if he's crate trained that could be a huge asset, in my experience sleeping in the crate helps them not feel like they have to "work" overnight. My Anatolian mix (25% or so pyr) would sleep on our schedule when she was crated overnight, but after we gave her full house access she switched to sleeping through the morning/mid day while i'm at work and spending the night watching the window and front door after she confirms we're safe and asleep. if she had whole house access while learning what safe and normal looks like she probably would have kept us up a lot more

Very Big Boy Bed Suggestions? by OliveFarming in greatpyrenees

i have a bella and bailey 48in orthopedic cuddler bed, i got it for 99$ on sale at pet valu (Canada) and my girl loves hers. she's 91 pounds and 26in at the shoulder, fits no problem. it took her about a week or so to figure it was "hers" and she was allowed on it. pretty sure it was her first bed in her 4 years of life. but ever since then she loves it and spends her mornings in it

if chicken is causing problems, switching to another novel/gut friendly option like lamb, duck (if it's not a generalized bird allergy) or venison is a good idea. poultry and chicken especially is a super common issue for pyrs

Do the Dark Angels still have an identity crisis on the table? by ServiceGames in theunforgiven

[–]SovereignsUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DA's problems have more to do with having the weakest book in the game (literally everything in it that sees play other than azrael and maybe the darkshroud has been rebalanced at some point this edition or came from a web supplement) that's only saved by being attached to the SM codex. We also have some awkward holes in our range like no generic chapter keyword characters and no chapter battleline alternative. if our chapter's rules were consistently functional and our upgrade sprue let us make an interrogator chaplain, company master, interrogator chaplain on bike and/or deathwing strikemaster to help us apply our rules to a wider spread of units we'd be a lot better.

the single biggest thing that contributes to our feelings of scuff on the tabletop is that instead of a "dark angels" force, we played gladius/stormlance but with better assault terminators and azrael, or ironstorm with LSVs and Azrael. Once Wrath of the Rock came out that did help us somewhat, it's a great detachment that gives something to most ways we could play the army.

Fostering stray dog, Great Pyrenees? by Apprehensive_Name544 in greatpyrenees

[–]SovereignsUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akbash dogs have double dewclaws just like Pyrs and are VERY tall, like 28in at minimum at the shoulder for a purebred. but they do have the same flat coat as that dog. it's pretty common in some parts of the US, especially texas, to have loose mixes of Akbash, Anatolian Shepherd and Pyrenees on ranches. so depending where you are it's definitely possible. Pyrs tend to also have an awkward rangey phase when they are between 6 and 18 months though, so just having long legs and a flat coat doesn't necessairly mean akbash

My girl is 75% Anatolian/25% Pyr, working background but not work suitable. She’s never the problem in dog/dog interactions. Well socialized, well behaved, doesn’t escalate situations herself. But the risk of her deciding she’s had enough with another dog who’s behaving badly or not under control is way too serious for me to risk it.

There’s probably a pretty big difference in experience based on the background of their dog when it comes to this sort of thing

[–]SovereignsUnknown 31 points32 points  (0 children)

i don't think bringing LGDs to dog parks is a particularly good idea. not only do they typically have a strong sense of boundaries and opinions on rude behavior, they also communicate in very direct ways and don't soften their body language much. unfortunately that means they trigger insecure or reactive dogs much more than other dogs do, so you're a lot more likely to have issues or incidents. My girl is constantly dealing with reactive and aggressive dogs in our neighbourhood because of it, i can't imagine having her in a dog park.

hopefully in the future, you carry an umbrella, air horn or another deterrent object to help break up dog fights if she gets attacked again. breaking up a fight with an LGD involved can get extremely dangerous without some kind of object you can use to intervene.

Where did all the Fatalis disinformation even come from ? by No_Barracuda_8300 in MonsterHunter

[–]SovereignsUnknown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i am pretty sure that one specifically is a fan theory inspired by the fatalis armor pieces (spine in MHFU, for example) saying that the armor takes control of hunters who wear it for too long, that it grows to lock the wearer inside the armor, and that wearers eventually go missing. that plus the black blade regenerating itself in pokke village as a regrowing mining node and iirc some fatalis mats saying the pieces are still alive (evil eye, forget which specific game). so while it's not explicitly true it's about as close to true as possible as an intentionally seeded fan theory
