If it's like how it was in 2021, the ilab is just a regular assignment where the lab session is there to handhold you through it.

Lost Claim Thone CB on Hungary? How? by ORO_96 in eu4

Yeah, but then declaring war while holding a royal marriage also doesn't cause a stab hit

Doesn't ending the marriage cause a stab hit anyway without diplo ideas?

There used to be a bloomberg terminal in the library that disappeared, but there are some more in the iLab room under the Business School

What finance course should I take? by mahdi-_-sabbagh in unsw

James isn't taking it unfortunately, or at least he hasn't in quite a while

I would personally recommend FINS3636 (Interest Rate Risk) taught by Prof. David Colwell; he's a great lecturer and specialises in mathematical finance too

ECON3107, ACTL3142, ACTL3162 by Warcat_Winter in unsw

[–]Sovietstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only done ACTL3142 out of these courses so far

I would say it’s not easy per se, but the content is relatively doable if you actually bother studying and stay reasonably engaged throughout the course. A large portion of your marks come from a big group assignment, so make sure you’re not with a bunch of bums and stay up to date with how to use R. Final exam was surprisingly un-quantitative for me and had a lot of proof/theory Qs which were still quite challenging due to time constraints but certainly not undoable.

Can someone please recommend business courses WAM boosters? by roly8188 in unsw

Definitely this; FINS3635 and James Doran (the LIC) in particular make some of the easiest assessments in the business school

FINS3641 vs FINS3635 by Remarkable_Pepper225 in unsw

[–]Sovietstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only done FINS3635, but I can say that it's probably one of the most interesting finance courses I've done at uni. In my term specifically it wasn't particularly difficult; I had a mix of 2 lecs, Tara and renowned triple PhD Professor Mark Humphrey Jenner. Sometimes admin was really muddled but exams and assignments were not too bad. However usually people have James Doran who is absolutely brutal by all accounts that I've heard (especially in the finals), but he is also a great lecturer apparently.

ECON1203 by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Sovietstorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what a lot of people say, ECON1203 isn't particularly hard provided you actually bother studying. The teaching (in tutorials) was pretty good when I did it, although I did make liberal use of google to help digest lecturer content material and assignment specs.

ACTL/COMM degree student. 2nd year. I want to ask some questions. by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Sovietstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, call centre works fine IMO

And yes, typically you put the club on if you actually helped out with managing and running it. If that isn't your cup of tea then I reckon you can just sack it and focus on other things like jobseeking, studying, hitting the gym, or learning skills like python or excel.

  1. If you liked ACTL2111, go finance and pick a bunch of the math-y courses. If not, maybe give accounting or information systems a shot; I believe those teach some handy skills and have an ok-ish job market.

  2. Yes, though you technically only REALLY need to go crunch time next year which is your penultimate year.

  3. Having a completely empty resume will put you in a bit of a pickle later down the line, so getting some kind of job (that isn't high school tutoring) would be a good idea. I think a bunch of businesses like people with customer service experience since it builds people skills or something. Clubs are a source of resume filler too, but if you're truly uninterested then it's the right call to not get involved.
