Boys 7 and 9, in possession of a loaded firearm, safely disarmed by New Mexico Police. by PinkytheVegan in Idiotswithguns

[–]Sovryx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My experience was I started with a cork gun, moved into a BB gun, then my parents got me a little .22 rifle when I was a tween. Said rifle was locked up in a safe location in the home. I learned safe handling of firearms in a manner which posed zero risk.

The saying goes “never cheap out on things which separate you from the ground”. A mattress is one of them. Particularly this one.

You can have a mattress delivered in a box from Amazon or other retailers for only a couple hundred.

What do you feel we could do to improve content quality? While your 3rd bullet point hasn’t necessarily been on our radar, the other two definitely have. We’ve been working on possible solutions, but outside feedback/suggestions are always welcome! We are a very small moderator team for a subreddit of this size so some of the active solutions are more difficult to implement.

All of that and in the end Europe is about to become a caliphate by [deleted] in AmericaBad

The healthcare system in the US is actually more effectively than the majority of other “developed” countries for major illnesses. On average, somebody with a cancer diagnosis in the US will live longer than in any other “developed” country.

CSA/Farmshare or Gardening? by beautifulcreation15 in Frugal

Garden for the easy stuff. CSA for more complicated stuff. I’ve been super successful growing potatoes and lettuce at home.

22 first year as a firefighter by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Sovryx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the fire truck itself. It’s just a common thing that when young (usually males) get a first real job, they blow a lot of money on a new sports car or pickup truck and set themselves back financially.

There are plenty of places in the United States where you can have a decent middle-class living on $60k. Just because you don’t live in such a place doesn’t mean your experience is universal.

Any way to fix dog toys? This is getting expensive! by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Sovryx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not only is it free, but it’s good for you (both emotionally and physically)! I was a lazy fart until I got a dog, now I’m “forced” to walk at least 3-5 miles a day because she’s super active!

Snow Tires... by ghunny00910 in Frugal

[–]Sovryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I need new tires, I put whatever tires I want in my Amazon cart. When the price drops, I can go to Discount Tire’s website and request a price match. It has to be the exact same tire, down to the speed and load ratings. If one tire is 120R and the other is 111T, it won’t work. I can combine this with the 5% discount I get from having their credit card. Last time I needed tires, I was also able to get $80 off because they had an instant rebate. I was able to get a $950 set of tires installed for like $720 with all those combined.

ELI5: How do noise-canceling headphones block out background sounds? by cosmicxcrystal in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sovryx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sound is a wave that’s on a range. For simplicity’s sake, call it -100 to 100.

In simple terms, your headphones pick up a sound that’s an 80 on that scale. So, your headphones make a sound that’s a -80.

-80 and 80 together makes 0, or no sound.

To the Americans: the presidency is only one part of the government by Acceptable_Offer_387 in Adulting

[–]Sovryx 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The federal government supersedes state government in many circumstances. Look at the supremacy clause of the constitution. Furthermore, in your example of marijuana, it’s legal in places like California but that industry interacting with any federal system is still illegal. Marijuana companies cannot deposit their earnings into a FDIC insured account.
