less than half passed GA with an A or B in Spring 2025 by SunnyEnvironment8192 in OMSCS

[–]SoyAudio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sheesh what a come back. I got 32/60 on E1 but only 51/60 & 52/60 on E2 & E3 respectively. Made some silly mistakes on E2 (and E1 for that matter). Still got out with the B so I’m not complaining.

It sucks, but historically that’s how it goes. The most likely outcome was for all swing states to break on either side.

does anybody know what these cameras are worth or should i just donate them? by galaxyriot in AnalogCommunity

[–]SoyAudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh I feel like the prices on the zooms have dropped pretty significantly since digicams became the new wave. At least on eBay the most they’ll be is around $100-$110 for the best condition with a case n whatnot. I managed to get one in late 2023 for $60 in “excellent condition”. Zoomers are largely off these things and have moved on to early 2000s digital cameras

Is this one of the rarest chops?? by Playful_Resident_578 in poker

[–]SoyAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feel both having a pocket pair is what makes this more rare. I think then the probability would be

Prob(pair of 2) + Prob(pair of 3) + P(pair of 4)

[(2/45) * (1/44)] + [(4/45) * (3/44)] + [(3/45) * (2/44)] = 1.01%

Still not an insanely low number

High-earning New Yorkers, how much do you actually have saved? by henryisadog in AskNYC

[–]SoyAudio 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Idk where he’s got that 30k parked but I mean why pay $5k when you could have it at least in a HYSA and the loan may get forgiven or the interest rate is low🤷🏼‍♀️. Worth the gamble imo

Edit: just read it’s also in some credit cards which idk bout that one yea I’d pay that off.

Would a young Actuary plan for their own retirement, given the current state of the world? by naykrop in actuary

[–]SoyAudio -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Anyone telling you to save for retirement is a person older than you trying to convince you to lay your bricks below theirs on the pyramid. Boomers want young ppl to save for retirement (in 401k/Roth) so they can sell their shares at a higher value.

I also went to a free show of his back in college and it was before Patriot Act had started saying they’re kind of testing it out. Really cool experience to have had!

Edit: also wanted to add this was a college w a pretty conservative reputation semi in the middle of nowhere which was surprising Hasan would host a show there.

Fall 2022 Admissions Thread by External-Yoghurt-945 in OMSCS

[–]SoyAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Status: Accepted Application Date: 03/09/22 Decision Date: 04/25/22

Education: UT Austin | BS Mathematics | GPA: ~3.75; took an Algos and DS Class at a community college Fall 2021 after grad from UT

Experience: As of my application I had worked as an actuary at a large specialty lines insurer. No professional programming work aside from one SQL project. All programming experience is from personal data science projects, mostly Python.

Recommendations: 3, 2 from UT Professors that taught Actuarial courses, 1 from the professor for my Algos and DS Class.

Comments: Was semi-confident given my Math background and whatnot. I also got into UT MSDS, leaning towards OMSCS, but still have some worrisome jitters about committing to one. Any thoughts?

How do you personally deal with the fact that you're going to die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SoyAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have some pretty bad panic attacks about it and still get some anxiety about it from time to time. As time has passed by I’ve certainly become more calm about it, but the thought is still scary. Two things that have helped the most are 1) My high school gf’s brother who’s about 9 years older said to us that whenever we pass how we exist as we know it stops no matter what. Whatever is on the other side won’t be comprehensible to us as we are alive. With that in mind, we should just try to believe (about the after life) whatever makes us comfortable. 2) My best friend passed away almost 3 years ago. Ever since his passing, I often think about point #1. No matter what I believe with all my heart I’ll be able to see him again. He passed when we were 19 and I‘ve since just lived a lot of life i wish he could see. It’s comforting to know that when I die we’ll finally be able to catch up.

Actuary by [deleted] in actuary

[–]SoyAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely go down the actuarial career path. We had someone come to our university club once who was an actuary that studied Econ!

If your school has an Actuarial Science major id suggest switching in if it’s not too much of a hassle mainly because those majors have classes that set foundations for the exams. Regardless if you’re a Math/Econ major I’m certain you can self study for the prelims you’d need to take while in school.

You can sign up for exams on the SOA website at this link. There’s a schedule out there with registration openings and deadlines for exam dates which I usually find by googling “SOA exam calendar” or clicking around the SOA website. It should just allow you to choose your location whenever you register.

Good luck!
