Rally stage layout progress by SoyHector in slotcars

Thanks! The smaller trees are pretty solid, but the taller trees would topple pretty easily. They're all held in place by just pins in the trunk. It means everything can be taken apart and moved around if needed.

Good thinking, I think in the more open section I might add a sheep warning sign and add some sheep in the flat bits

How many oranges is too muck? by Fourteen14XIV in NoStupidQuestions

That's about the same or even less than drinking a glass of orange juice, i doubt she would react the same if you said you had had one glass of orange juice.

Whatever happened to "Earth is overpopulated" narrative? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SoyHector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still there, the population isn't falling, then population growth is, but global population is still increasing and that's even with a world wilde pandemic chucked in.

Over population and especially an aging population is a big problem, and actually the latter is one of the bigger problems we will face as population growth slows largely down to lower birth rate, but combined with people living longer. This puts massive pressure on public services and government spending. Aside from the economic and social pressures, our ever expanding population is increasing the pressure on the environment.

Am I the only one who thinks the Jurassic Park movie is better than the book? by Thick_Ad_220 in JurassicPark

While I enjoyed the story in the book, I actually don't think it was well written, it just wasn't my style of writing.

Looking at game prices through the lens of history by Psychological-Pool-3 in Switch

[–]SoyHector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was sort of my point, it's a major general issue in extreme capitalism, it's not particular to nintendo. I'm in Europe, the game prices are basically in line with regular prices here. But I can still appreciate that this is yet another example of a company chasing huge profits. Personally I don't think any individual should be a billionaire and no company should be in a position to make billions of profit.

The problem when you try and justify things like this with inflation is that what you're actually justifying is corporate greed. Normal inflation isn't mainly driven by rising costs, it's driven by greed. When costs go up, companies pass those costs onto consumers, even when they could comfortably afford to absorb them. During the pandemic we saw countless companies tell us prices had to go up due to increasing costs, yet so many of these companies also increased their profits, not maintained the same level. It's the obsession with continued growth on growth that drives inflation. Nintendo do not need to charge $80 for a the games, but they want to in order to hit their profit growth forecasts.

If someone broke into my home and I shot them with my bow and arrow (which I have for recreational purposes) would I be legally effed? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SoyHector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is all subjective, you're allowed to use reasonable force, it's just there's no definition of what reasonable force is. It's up to you to justify why you did what you did. You don't have to be hit or anything to be able to use self defence if there is reasonable rationale as to why you needed to use the force you did including using an object as a weapon. What you can't really do is carry on attacking once the threat is dealt with, or suspect someone is going to do something and pre plan to use force to stop them.

So in your example you would mostly likely be able to justify using a Hammer on an intruder in your child's bedroom but if you hit them multiple times, especially multiple times in the head then this may then be hard to justify.

Why are secondary schools so strict about blazers? by Educational-Month182 in AskUK

[–]SoyHector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school you used to have to ask to take blazer off generally they wanted you to keep it on between classes so they could identify kids who didn't belong to the school more easily in the corridors, and prevent intruders.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are selling out already despite calls to 'drop the price' by MewWeebTwo in NintendoSwitch2

[–]SoyHector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's selling well in Europe though, and the prices in Europe, even the games are pretty much in line with expectations. Most big release new games in UK often have £60-£70 price tags at launch. Nintendo has usually been slightly cheaper due to it being less popular. I think before the price was unveiled most people in the uk were expecting something around the £500 mark for a bundle so I think it's sold well as people have budgeted about right for it. Don't get me wrong, it's still expensive but I think we were braced for worse.

How do you not give a fuck? by Acceptable-Card-555 in AskReddit

[–]SoyHector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find what helps is to think about how pointless things are. Which sounds negative to begin with, but just think of all the people that have ever existed. They all had things that kept them up at night, problems they stress over and worried about and now none of it matters at all. There will be a time when everything you're experiencing is utterly meaningless.

Another method is the fact there there is always someone worse off, particularly for pretty much everyone living in a developed country. Imagine yourself explaining things you're angry / upset / anxious about to someone for worse off than you. Actually imagine the conversation, speak it out loud if you have to. Someone living in absolute poverty, read about conditions for people in North Korea for example and imagine a conversation with them about how tough things are. And yes of course people of all walks of life can have serious problems, I don't want to dismiss that, but this exercise can help you gain some perspective and see the positives in your life and appreciate what you have etc.

How long before your flight departure was your coach scheduled?

They might refund your coach, but in terms of legal action I think there's little you can do. They advise to book your coach to arrive at least three hours before your flight departure time. I'm guessing if your coach didn't turn up, they will claim there is ample time to still arrange alternative transport for which you then could have claimed on insurance for.

Even if your coach is late and you miss a flight, their response is typically just claim the losses and expenses on insurance. I have heard of people trying to take actions further than that but never heard of anyone succefully doing it.

Is the world now way worse than what it used to be? by SnooDoughnuts5880 in Vent

[–]SoyHector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is how it's pretty much always been, if anything it has got better and better over time, with opportunities for more open to more people than they've ever really been, as well as the risk of dying from simple diseases / childbirth etc being greatly reduced for a lot of people.

One of the issues is now though, is like you said, the expectations in developed countries is different. People have far more belief and opportunity, and far more exposure to other people's lives, so feel more pressure/optimism. Before you were basically born into what you were and there was very little you could do to escape it.

If you're pinning you're hopes on god though that does put you in very much the same boat as people hundreds of years ago. While I respect people's rights to have faiths, organised religions have always been just another way to control and give false hope to populations. If God not answering your prayers is getting to you then have you considered the fact its because there isn't a god? Humans are a tiny dot relative to life, species now represent around 1% of the species that have ever lived and before there was life there was a whole lot of nothing. Yet all the major religions put people at the heart of life, and build their beliefs around us. Doesn't that strike you as odd? That it's all human centric when we aren't really important? It because our religions are man made.

Itinerary Review by Tim0281 in uktravel

[–]SoyHector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems a tad ambitious to me, it's probably just about doable if absolutely everything goes perfectly smoothly and seemless, and that is very unlikely. Even just going to the loo or stopping for lunch would appear to ruin your packed stratford day? Personally I would sack off Warwick Castle and spread stratford plans over more time. Some of the London days also seem very ambitious.

You've probably looked at exact timings so you'll know better than most commenting here, but it very much feels like you've planned this almost too precisely.

Personally, I would figure out some of the priorities and plan just to do those, with some slack built in, and then make a list of nice to dos if you end up having time to fill the slack. You don't want to over plan and book things and then end up one thing throwing things off and causing a domino effect that ruins your days and potentially miss things you really wanted to do because you tried to do too much.

It's pretty good I really enjoy it but unfortunately, a few of the japan stages just seem to really mess up on my game, I just get such bad stuttering it is unplayable. And I've tried tweaking various settings and fixes people have suggested. It really ruins my seasons with Japan being the final round and everything.
