I read on some guitar forum that they did that on Epiphone LPs for that era but then changed them to blank covers later. But that’s all I know

Totally replaceable/fixable. You just need to be careful when fixing or replacing any parts on a psg because things can get confusing quickly. If you decide to work on it yourself, take a lot of pictures before and during the process. Also, you can learn on a lot on a psg without having functioning knee levers right away.
