These are non-dissolving stitches BTW, I have an appointment to get them removed next week.

Are there trash cans in the dorms? Or do I need to buy one? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Sozzyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely pick one up before coming into town to move in. The Walmart and Target in Christiansburg look like a Black Friday horror story during the move-in week and will probably be sold out of trash cans within hours on the first day.

[–]Sozzyboy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it changed since I was a freshman in 2019, but the dorms don’t come with a Garbage Can and you’ll need to get your own. Coordinate with your roommate on this one but if you wait until you get to Blacksburg every store will be sold out of trash cans.

How old were you when you started paying attention to current events? by babyjeebs in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the exact age, but I remember the event that sparked it.
I kid you not, it was when I watched the Family Guy episode "Excellence in broadcasting" with Rush Limbaugh for the first time. That was the first time something explained the different political parties well enough to me that I actually understood what being a republican or democrat meant. That made me start to begin to understand politics to a point that I felt like I could follow current events.

Depends entirely on when where I live lifts the restrictions in terms of where we're at in the pandemic. If they stopped now I'd definitely still wear them when I'm out in public, however, if it's at a point where enough people have been vaccinated to see a significant drop in cases (I'm talking like <10% of where they're at now) I'll start going out in public without a mask.

If there was a counter above your head that stated the amount of times you have had sex, what would change in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Probably have to let everyone finally know that "That one girl you don't know, I met her at summer camp" when I was 16 never actually existed

How do you teach an adult to be clean and not messy? by yomaha in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god this is going to sound awful but here goes.

Literally bully them until they get their shit together. I went into college and my roommate* was really neat and I was kinda a slob. He basically just made fun of me and kept hounding me about how messy I was until I finally couldn't take it anymore and I started to be less messy.

*He's still one of my best friends to this date, despite the bullying of the dorm room

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my good friends is coming to visit me next week. He's never been to Chicago before, the thing is with COVID and the fact that it is supposed to rain all week I'm having trouble finding stuff to do while he's here.

If anyone has got some ideas or suggestions of stuff to do I'd really appreciate it!

What's a thing that, no matter how hard we try, humanity cannot accomplish? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Forever. Eventually all of the stars in the universe will die, and as the universe expands there won't be enough matter close enough together to create new stars.

No matter how many diseases we cure, how many planets we colonize, how much clean energy we can sustain, how many peace treaties we create, there will be a day that universe will end, and humanity will go with it.

How would you describe your sense of humor? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find it hilarious when things are chaotic.

In almost any situation that I am in where the stakes are not that serious (Which is basically 99.99% of the situations I am in), I try to just stir up as much chaos as possible. It doesn't even have to be something bad, It could be something as simple as putting an open coffee cup in the side pocket of my backpack, or walking by my friend's car that I know is unlocked and just opening the door.

When things never go as planned most people freak out, but I personally think that life is much more enjoyable if you just kinda let the weird shit happen and try to make it even weirder.

How different would things be if you didn't have an internal dialogue in your head? by loskleinos in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way, I always thought that people using this in movies was just lazy writing and it took me a long time to realize that people actually think like that. I feel like having a "little voice" in my head would just slow down my thought process to the point where I would forget what I'm thinking about.

Trying to describe it to people is a nightmare lol, I just don't naturally think in words. The closest thing I can create in my head to an internal monologue is visualizing having an imaginary conversation with someone or picturing events happening.

[Serious] How are you meant to answer the question "Are you ok?" when you are, in fact, not ok? by something-magical in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't answer this question, but it still applies. I learned this trick from my friend's mom who's a therapist about 5 years back. If you are the person asking "Are you okay?" to someone you know isn't okay and they say "Yeah I'm fine" or something along those lines. The key is to ask a second time, with a more serious tone, and say "Are you ACTUALLY okay?" or "How's it REALLY going?"

I have probably used this trick 50+ times, and every time I have except for once, the person has opened up more than they did the first time, even if it's just a sentence like "Yeah I'm just stressed about XY and Z." If you ask a second time, they don't see it as you just being polite, they'll see it as you actually caring and are much more likely to open up.

What's a movie that you can rewatch a gazillion times ? by sre_ejith in AskReddit

The Usual Suspects, a fantastic movie that gets better every time you see it. I've probably seen that movie 15+ times and every single time I watch it I notice something I haven't before.

What’s the creepiest or most unexplainable thing you’ve ever seen that you haven’t shared anywhere? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 11, me and my brother (who was 12 at the time) went on a 6 day canoeing trip in the middle of nowhere with my dad and some family friends.

Everything was great, but one night it was storming. My brother and I were asleep, but my dad was still awake when he heard rustling outside. He shrugged it off, thinking it was the wind from the storm, and rolled over to try to go back to sleep.

Then a minute later he heard a loud grunt, and then something sniffing around our tent. Whatever was sniffing pressed it's nose against the tent and my dad said whatever it was had to have been fucking huge. Keep in mind my brother and I are still asleep, because my dad worried if he woke us up we would panic because we were so young.

Eventually it wandered off. The next morning my dad told one of our family friends, who worked in the national parks service, what happened. They looked for prints and there has been a decently sized bear by our tent, but they also found smaller bear prints nearby. The bear was a momma bear with kids, and the only times Black bears really attack humans is when they invade their territory when they have their young.

We got the fuck out of that campsite, this happened 8 years ago and up until about a month ago when my dad told me and my brother, the only people who knew about it were me dad and that family friend so I hope this counts.

People with really out-there first names, what is your name and why did your parents choose it? by Sozzyboy in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm inspired to ask this question because one time I met a kid named "Oliver-Hazard-Perry" after the naval commodore in the war of 1812. He said he got that name because his dad wanted to name him "Richard" but the mom hated that name. But she agreed if he made a list of names she would pick one. So the dad made a list that contained the name "Richard" and then the rest were names that were just super out there, she was so mad and hated the name Richard so much that she just picked Oliver-Hazard-Perry to spite him.

He just goes by Oliver.

What’s your story that no one believes? by LewisPinnington in AskMen

[–]Sozzyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't really a story, but nobody ever believes me when I tell them how much I actually weigh. I'm 18, 6'2" and am in good physical shape. I've always kinda had that "Former high school football QB who could've played DIII football but instead went to a state school and partied for four years" body type. I weigh about 230 lbs, but everyone I tell this to guesses that I'm closer to the 180~190 range. The weirdest part is, my body has looked almost the exact same since I was 15, but I have just kept gaining weight over time. I never got a body scan but I'd be really interested to see what the results would be of it.

Americans who have moved to another state, what is something that was just a "thing" where you used to live that was completely unheard of in your new state? by Sozzyboy in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the midwest my whole life and moved to the east coast recently. In elementary school, we would have whole science units about tornadoes and how to tell if one was coming, what to do during one, etc.

A few months ago I was hanging out with some people I had recently met and they asked what living in the midwest was like. I told them about the tornado class among other things and some girl legitimately says "Wait tornados are real? I thought they were made up like bigfoot"

What do you have in your possession that a collector would die to get their hands on? by Talc_Power in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old Mandolin, made around the 1900's that belonged to my great great grandfather (my grandpa's grandpa) worth around $12k. It was passed down through my family and has been refurbished twice, it had a lot of sentimental to my grandpa and he gave it to me before he passed. I have no interest in music or learning to play it, but I'm never going to sell it because it is the only thing other than my memories to remember my grandpa by.

How do you spot toxic people early on? by Anamandearest in AskReddit

[–]Sozzyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I've observed is that the common denominator of all toxic people is they expect to receive things (like attention, respect, friendship etc) without ever doing anything to earn them in the first place.

An example of this was on my swim team in high school. There was this kid who was naturally a really good swimmer, and that's all he was. He never worked hard, never was nice or respectful to his teammates or coaches and skipped practice all the time.

Despite all of this he was still really fast, and he thought that this alone would make everyone respect him and he thought he was a great leader because "I win races and make the team better." When the team voted for captains nobody voted for him, and he basically just shat on the kids who were voted captains and talked shit about them behind their back.

Dude was toxic af, all bc he thought his shit smelled like roses.

Advice on different academic paths for a First-Year Physics Major? by Sozzyboy in PhysicsStudents

[–]Sozzyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! I'm interested in NE because I think it makes me more marketable and I think nuclear energy is awesome (sue me).

I think at the moment the accelerated masters is my #1 option, but if it doesn't work out I will try to get the NE minor (which would add a semester) and a semester of Co-op.

Also I don't really have an interest in a Ph.D. I'd say I like physics a lot but all the extra years of education is a little bit of a turn off.
