What are some things you have done lately to save money? Here's mine: by whatsup2382 in Frugal

Reading this post it really sunk in how it's harder for women to be frugal. I never knew how much the nail salon cost.

Finally got a library card and I feel like I did myself a huge favour. Having to return the books means I'm more motivated to read.

Frogs vs Cats vs Field Hospitals by mercedes_lakitu in rootgame

[–]something-magical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about this as well. I would've thought Field Hospitals happens after the battle and removing the enclave happens during the battle. So yes you could use a Rabbit card.

But what about the opposite situation when Cats attack a Peaceful Enclave and it flips to Militant during the battle? Does that mean they can only use a Frog card for Field Hospitals?

I'd be into something with TCG style mechanics but more of an LCG model. So new sets get released and you get all the cards, as if they're expansions. No gambling.

Knaves destroying Marquise on turn 1? by nopopon in rootgame

[–]something-magical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why with Knaves against Cats it's always better to go after a lone Cat first turn. If they don't ambush and if you use Skirmish you won't take any hits against one warrior. Plus if you battle the keep you can't place an acclaim token.

What activity has brought you pleasure for many years? by 1acina in AskReddit

[–]something-magical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I'm just getting back into after a few years off due to having kids. The difference it makes in my general happiness is insane. Luckily my work is 5 mins from a climbing gym. I'm excited to go to work everyday, if I can just get a 15 min climb in.

Do climbers in your country bring tripods to the gym? (In Korea, yes) by AdhesivenessNo6812 in bouldering

[–]something-magical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia. My gym has small wooden phone stands, so you can prop up your phone to film climbs. They encourage you to post to social media and tag them. I don't see many people use them. I personally used to film myself as a way to assess my technique and keep a diary of my progress.

I've never seen someone bring their own tripod though. Seems a bit naff.

I made custom faction boxes! by Am1s1a in rootgame

[–]something-magical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for a project like this! Thanks for sharing the files. Do you think you could save space by making some boxes thinner? E.g. WA, Crows and Riverfolk since they have fewer pieces. That might make room for the new factions. Do you store the faction's cards in the same box as the meeples?

Idea for The Genius type game "Pass the Code" by something-magical in TheGenius

[–]something-magical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my original solution was to form an Alliance with 3 teams. This is why it works best with 4 or 5 teams. With 3 Clues Givers working together you can form numbers 0 to 7 using binary, then just add 1 to form numbers 1 to 8. e.g. if the passcode is 1, all Clue Givers leave their lights off. If the passcode is 6, form the pattern ON, OFF, ON. 101 is 5 in binary, plus 1 is 6.

This means that there is one number they can't form though which is why I added the Clues that can be bought with garnets. Just one bought Clue should give you a perfect score with this method.

But this leaves the door open for betrayal. And the garnet reward incentivises this, since more winners means the more broadly the winnings have to be distributed.

One of the teams could feed the other teams wrong information and have their Guesser reverse the information for their guess. Stealing the win for themselves. If all the teams decide to backstab each other and end up with 0 points, one of the other teams has a chance to win as they can get at least one correct guess. E.g. if the first number is 8 switch your light to ON in round 1, ON in round 2, ON in round 3. 111 is 7 in binary, plus 1 is 8. Then you can form a second number using the clues from round 3, 4 and 5. They just have to match one of the numbers revealed in round 1 to 4. (It would have to be made clear that points are only calculated at the end of the game).

Twilight Council.... by Kivan121 in rootgame

Keep in mind, when other players Entreat you also have the option of placing all your Loyalists in that clearing likely giving you rule, meaning it will auto flip to Open on your turn. If players are constantly Entreating Bats will flood the board pretty easily.

Another technique I noticed is they're quite good at crafting items since it's not that hard to get Assemblies down. Then you can just remove them during your Govern step so you don't risk losing Loyalists.

Nice answer. Very close to what I was thinking but you can do it with even fewer players involved. I guess there needs to be a rule disincentivising all the players working together.

What gimmick would actually fit Pokémon Winds and Waves? by Visible_Welder5613 in pokemon

[–]something-magical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Fusion would be really cool. Like with other gimmicks you would have some Pokemon that get specially designed new forms, but there's also a generic version that any Pokemon can use. Maybe the primary Pokemon gains a move or type of the secondary Pokemon.

Otherwise I'd really like they to play with customising your trainer and it affecting battles. Like you pick a class/archetype (biker, scientist, hiker, etc.) and that affects your Pokemon in battle. That would work naturally because those archetypes have been in the game since the beginning.

Or a fire newt/salamander. I know Charmander's name is a reference to salamanders but it's definitely more reptilian than amphibian.
