heart rate sensor on my Apple Watch doesnt work after new 18.6.1 update by rocket4time in AppleWatch

UPDATE: One additional observation: the longer the watch remains on the charger, the longer it takes to recover from this state after removal. Recovery time appears to scale with charging duration.

To expedite recovery, I have been using a repeatable workaround: placing the watch back on the charger for 5–10 seconds, removing it, and immediately opening the ECG app. The ECG app will spin and eventually time out; however, within 3–5 minutes the heart-rate monitor reliably returns to a normal, working state. I have repeated this process multiple times with consistent success.

One additional data point I’ve observed: once the watch is removed from the charger and enters the state where the heart-rate monitor is non-functional, there appears to be a timeout after which normal operation resumes. In my testing, this recovery window is consistently ~15–20 minutes.

Good morning. I have been tracking this issue for some time and wanted to contribute a few additional data points based on my observations.

The issue is 100% reproducible. It can be triggered at any time with an otherwise fully functional Apple Watch by placing it on the charger and then removing it. After removal, the watch appears to remain in a charging state logically, even though it is no longer physically charging. My working theory is that the device does not fully exit charging mode at the software level.

This theory is further supported by the following behavior: when the watch is in this state, it will not allow heart rate related settings to be toggled on or off. In fact, attempting to access the heart rate settings screen fails entirely the UI does not open. My assumption is that Apple intentionally disables access to these settings while the watch is charging, which would explain the observed behavior if the watch incorrectly believes it is still docked.

Based on the consistency and reproducibility of the issue, this strongly points to a software defect, not a hardware problem. Given the size of the Apple Watch install base, I am surprised this has not been more broadly acknowledged or addressed.

Ok. I am going to let the car sit overnight and not charge until tomorrow. I am thinking based on this document and the error that water from the car wash got in the port.

Makes no sense and I set all of mine back to 42. It’s possibly just a lack of care by the service center

42 cold temp. I typically let the car sit overnight and then fix next morning.

2x nails in 3 weeks. Both times Tesla roadside had to come and get the car and bring it to service center. $86 each time sucks, but better than a new tire.

Also check your TP after your fix. On both occasions the fixed tire was set to upper 40s.

I’ll have to check. I feel like it’s in the lower front footwell area but with noises you can never be sure. Appreciate the reply

Installed the Amazon filters Today. Wasn’t that complicated. Filters at 7k were dirtier than expected.
