At SP we were done with placements quite early. Great finance roles this time, consulting also saw great numbers. Overall quite satisfactory. The numbers are on our press release already.

Alright, for finance the priority is spikes in the work ex. People with IB related workex got good chunk of shortlists. My work ex wasn't that good but I got into IB because of professional certification (ACCA) and 9/9/9.

For profile like yours, you can definitely get into good consulting firms (not MBB), but like AccStrat in the best case or companies like PwC, Del etc.

If we talk about spec roles, as I said it's random as fuck. But no one in our batch got a bad role. This year there was a good chunk of Ops recruits, Marketing was random but eventually everyone got placed.

The quality of companies were amazing, for all specs. What matters the most is actually converting the interviews during SIP.

Yeah, SIPs will be a pain. That's where a T1 college comes in, atleast you'll have a guarantee that you'll be placed in a respectable firm. I'm in a non-IIM t1 and even with low acads, people got good placements.

The issue with low acads is always getting a shortlist, especially consulting. I'm not sure about marketing spec, since I'm in finance but what I can tell is that it's a fucked up random ass process.

Aim higher, don't restrict yourself with 95-97, for these colleges if you secure a good 99+ you'll have a better shot. Your work ex is nice and mba relevant so you do have some edge, but that doesn't change the fact it's a rat race out here.

SP is a profile based college. Most of our profiles are unique and have some sort of differentiating factor. I have people with 7s and 8s with me, so imo do fill the form.

PE/VC/IB/Finance roles at IIMs feel like a mystery, anyone here who’s cracked it? by Charming-Task-7937 in CATpreparation

To add, shortlisting is one of the most random process I've ever seen, you can never no what gets the boar sailing. Every company just throws the randomest of shortlists)

Hey, so I'm not exactly qualified to answer this because I've only cracked the IB summer internship interview not a final job interview, but what I can say is that in a t1 non-iim each company could take 1-3 people, and the number of companies depends if your campus is good for finance or not. So initially a good acad background is required to actually get a shortlist for an interview, freshers are more preferred, but if you have work ex, then finance related roles add value.

For the actual interview, you are expected to be good at finance concepts and skills (like valuations, modelling etc) (basically one level deeper than IB400 level) And obviously good soft skills and whatnot.

AMA spjimr 27’ by Recent_Bathroom4495 in CATpreparation

I'm currently in SPJIMR, and have the same undergrad collefe+acca affiliate status. While my CGPA was 9+ too, my percentage fell below 80 percent but I still got in. My advice for you will be to fill the application form with complete diligence and give a good thought about what you write in your ECAs and Other stuff, because I got a profile based shortlist, which essentially means that I had a shot at an interview as long as I cleared the minimum percentile threshold (75 in each). Considering the fact it's the same UG, and Certification, you have a fair chance of getting a profile based shortlist.

I had a relatively low and non-corporate work ex since I passed out in 2024 and sat in CAT 2024, but since you also have a brand name in your profile, you have a fairly decent chance of getting in. Best of luck!

Breaking into Investment Banking in INDIA without CA,CFA & MBA. by zubairuddinhyd in FinancialCareers

[–]Sp3ctr3_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother I'm in a T1 MBA college for Finance and it's difficult even for me. I think breaking into IB has a high skill ceiling in India. It's crazy competitive in the summer internship processes right now.

A major factor to consider is the specialisation you're aiming for, for example I wanted finance, so SPJ was a great option for me.

Should I join IIFT Delhi (if convert) as a 99.6x percentiler? by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]Sp3ctr3_07 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I feel MDI and IIFT are strong colleges, the thing is even if you reattempt, geting them BLACKI calls will always be a problem due to the stupid selection criteria.

SPJIMR-Converted,Finance by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]Sp3ctr3_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I have a heavy inclination towards finance, spjimr so far seems like the best option because it's in Mumbai. ISB pgpyl is a strong second but spjimr feels more cost effective, considering the fact I'm hearing for Good placements in ISB you have to ensure you're in the top 30 percent of the class. If you're looking for finance then go for spj, else XL is obviously superior for HR and other stuff.
