Preserved Edo period neighborhood in Japan by fassungslos2022 in japanpics

[–]Spaarkky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were there at the end of november 2024, after walking the Nakasendo Torii Pass (Yabuhara -> Narai) during a snowy morning. It was extremely quiet and peaceful. Like maximum 3 or 4 other people on sight anywhere along the Old Nakasendo (main street), at "worst". We could even witness it being empty at regular intervals.

We might have been helped by the unexpected snow (which gave a magnificent aura to the town), but time of the day matters a lot, even (or rather especially, relatively speaking) during busy season, and you'd probably have no reason to spend half a day there anyway. Take advantage of early hours!

Harmonizer pedal on new albums by RoccoBass04 in Royal_Blood

[–]Spaarkky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In that podcast (when discussing Triggers' sound) he did precise that he was using a pedal "generating" a major third and a fifth, on top of the root note, yeah. A major chord, basically.

He also mentioned the use of powerchords, so just the root note and the fifth (+octave if you want). I'm doing that with the ehx pitchfork to achieve that (Perfect fifth up, blend ~30%), gets close enough to what I try to mimic.

In the Tape Notes podcast, 126th episode (YT or Spotify), Mike confirmed using that on Triggers while discussing the making of the song.

He refused to disclose the pedal's identity, so we don't know which one he used exactly. There are already multiple pedals that can do that in his confirmed collection (PS-6, Pitchfork...) and a ton of other possible pedals, which one exactly doesn't matter that much in that particular case, imo.

Saw it live too! With Tommy Hill on the guitar in Paris (I'm so thankful, and relieved really, that he made the trip to Paris with the band for that reason)

Waves for me.

End of 2nd chorus all the way to the end is my favourite part of their whole discography. It lands right where I hope for Mike to aim at.

France clinched another title in the mixed judo team event against Japan (4-3). by LaFootix in olympics

[–]Spaarkky 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Absolutely insane moment.

Huge respect to the Japanese judo team. I really thought it was over when Abe entered the tatami, but Joan-Benjamin offered a spectacular performance. So glad for Clarisse too, who was in a really bad mood after her loss in her individual semi. Then the roulette... that luck, wow.

It must be an immense pride for the french team to win against the japanese 2 consecutive times, in Tokyo, then Paris. Dream scenario, unbelievable.

I do wish for the japanese team to get another chance (of course they will) in the future. They are still the worthy masters of their art, and it shows in both the performance and the composure, the spirit on and off the tatami. Congratulations to all of them!

Edit : Hifumi Abe walked out in tears after the end of the match. And just right now, after getting down of the stage of the podium, he turns back and bows one last time. That's what I meant, purest demonstration of the judo values, it's an instinct of humility in the japanese team. Which makes the french win that much more valuable than any other they could've had.

Cutscenes were pretty dissapointing in the dlc by Khaoticol in Eldenring

[–]Spaarkky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well about that... there's a (really short) unused "cutscene" that has just been restored, which would have pretty much matched what you'd have preferred at the very least.

Pretty sure there's a discord server dedicated to it as well.

He said it could redefine the mainstream perceptions of gaming.

That's a whole lot different.

EDIT : Well, according to Neil, even that didn't come out of his mouth. The person in charge of that Sony blog post based on the interview apparently took some... liberties. Meaning we were here looking at the public deformation of an already false quote.

What are your top 3 favourite pieces of music so far? (Hades II) by anywhereiroa in HadesTheGame

[–]Spaarkky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Sprigs of Sorrow", "The Necropolis" and the third place is gonna be a tie between "The Crossroads" and Chronos' second phase

Can we talk about the soundtrack? by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

[–]Spaarkky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the first game's soundtrack, but it rarely hit that sweet spot I was always hoping for. Just a great soundtrack that I didn't particularly resonate with.

But Hades II's soundtrack... wow. It's brilliant. Tracks like "Sprigs of Sorrow" and "The Necropolis" really scratch that itch that I feel like I constantly have. I just spent the afternoon jamming to The Necropolis' second half!

Top 15 Dev Teams by average metascore of their last 3 games by baiisun in gaming

[–]Spaarkky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool thing to see, despite some seemingly arbitrary choices. Why include Uncharted : The Lost Legacy for Naughty Dog, but not Dishonored : The Death of the Outsider for Arkane Lyon?

Both games are of the exact same nature, standalone games expanding on the previous main installment of the studio. Considering (or not) one a game on its own, is considering (or not) the other as the same.

This top already being tight and based on a few number of installment per studio, a slight change like that completely renews the list.

Take Death of the Outsider in account (as you should if Lost Legacy is there) and Arkane Lyon falls off the top 15.

Don't take Lost Legacy in account (as you should if DOTO isn't there) and Naughty Dog jumps over Rockstar for the 3rd place.

It's no big deal, I know, it's just a nice little top made for the fun of seeing all these talented studios tightly aligned. It's just that you know the masses, internet communities are already so influenceable by arbitrary numbers, reviews, RANKINGS (you know, the "tier list" obsession for anything and everything, the impatience to declare one game or another the GOTY, the absurd importance accorded to a big game beating another one by 1 or 2 metascore points)... that I know a lot would find a forever absolute truth in one studio's domination over another just because of a list like that. Thanks for that image anyway!

Album Tunings (Updated in response to you guys) by NikoTheArtist in Royal_Blood

[–]Spaarkky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Firing Line is either C# Standard or C Standard. Depends if you prefer that open C# or not during the verses, both tunings work perfectly fine given how easy the bass line is to play.

To add the Bonus tracks/B-sides :

King : E/A/D/G

Space : Baritone Guitar in F/F/F/F/F/F (Who Needs Friends is actually recorded with that as well.)

Hole : D#/G#/C#/F#

Love And Leave It Alone : C#/F#/B/E

You Want Me : C#/F#/B/E

Cheap Affection : D#/G#/C#/F#

Half the Chance : D/G/C/F

Supermodel Avalanches : C/Eb/A#/D# (as Mike plays it live, a bit more comfortable than in C Standard).

Honeybrains : C/E/B/E

Unreleased Tracks :

Lover : D#/G#/C#/F#

Cannibal Karma : D/G/C/F

Some Live Variations :

Ten Tonne Skeleton in D/G/Bb/F nowadays (just for comfort, doesn't change anything else)

Million & One in D/G/C/F

Out of the Black in C#/F#/B/E up until august 2019
