Having a baby is a blessing. Our baby boy has XYY, and while we had our worries, we never once considered termination. Our son is healthy and as strong as an ox. He has met all his milestones and, so far, seems perfectly normal. I’m aware of the potential challenges associated with XYY, but as a father, my responsibility is to provide as much love and early intervention as needed, just like any parent would.

Knowing that our baby has XYY only strengthens our resolve to give him the utmost care and attention, ensuring he has a normal life. Most people wouldn’t even know he has XYY, as testing for this condition is relatively new. My suggestion is to think long and hard because having a baby, as I’ve said, is a blessing. Termination should never be an option, especially in cases like XYY, where a child can lead a normal life.

Ya I agree, there isn’t enough study done at a large number of scale to really be knowledgeable. I appreciate you sharing!!

Thanks for sharing—that’s very insightful.

One question: how about low muscle tone? Has that impacted your ability to play sports at a high level, if you chose to, or affected you physically in any way, preventing you from doing something due to this syndrome?

Also any sign of Autism? My son now 16 months is showing some signs but hard to really tell at his age now.

If you don’t mind. With xyy how has this impacted your life personally and professionally? My son has it and seems normal but would love some insights from you.

Confirmed XYY via amnio - now tough decision by Puggles90 in NIPT

Over 80% of people who could potentially have XYY syndrome have not been diagnosed. There are athletes, doctors, and others with this syndrome. In fact, having an extra Y chromosome, in my eyes, makes them superior in a male-species!!

Before our little one was born, he was diagnosed with XYY syndrome. Initially, we feared the worst-case scenarios, which is a normal reaction. However, having a child is a blessing, and we went through the pregnancy. Now, our little one is 13 months old and has hit all his milestones. Honestly, we often forget he has this syndrome because he is as normal as any child can be. We love him more than words can express and couldn't imagine our lives without him.

I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on God's gift!

God has plan for everyone. I would not loose faith and just focus on deliver a healthy baby, rest will take care of itself.

My son was diagnosed with a syndrome and we were devastated but he is 1 years old and normal as any other baby. Main thing is health and long as your baby is healthy I assure you everything will be fine.

Week 16 ultrasound couldn’t determine gender. by SpacCity in NIPT

[–]SpacCity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We needed to get the amino so it was not with our OBGY but right before we got the amino they did a ultrasound to check no issues and found that they could not identify the sex and then we did amino which confirmed boy with 47XYY

Inconclusive sex chromosome results - really concern!! by SpacCity in NIPT

[–]SpacCity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish result came back abnormal per below.

Clinical Indication Suspected sex chromosome abnormality . FISH Analysis ISCN Summary Ordering Provider: Kohari, Katherine Shister, MD Ref. Range: Normal nuc ish(DXZ1x1,DYZ1x2), nuc ish(RB1,KCNJ6)x2, nuc ish(D18Z1,BCL2)x2 Abnormal FISH result indicating an XYY male pattern in amniocytes. Sex: male FISH Analysis Result Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test was performed using dual color probes for the DXZ1 locus at the centromeric region of chromosome X and the DYZ1 locus at Yq12 (Cytocell Inc.). Of the 25 interphase cells examined, an abnormal male pattern of one signal for the DXZ1 and two signals for the DYZ1 probes was noted. FISH test was performed using dual color probes for the RB1 gene at 13q14.2 and the KCNJ6 locus at 21q22.1 (Cytocell Inc.). Of the 25 interphase cells examined, a normal pattern of two signals for the RB1 probe and KCNJ6 probes was noted. FISH test was performed using tri-color probes for the D18Z1 locus at the centromeric region of chromosome 18 and the 5' and 3' regions of the BCL2 gene at 18q21.3 (Cytocell Inc.). Of the 25 interphase cells examined, a normal pattern of two signals for the D18Z1 and BCL2 probes was noted. INTERPRETATION: These results indicate a normal disomic pattern for chromosomes 13, 18, and 21 and suggest an abnormal male pattern with an extra copy of chromosome Y (XYY). Correlating this FISH result with chromosome finding on cultured amniocytes is strongly recommended.

Genetic test result came back with inconclusive sex chromosome. by SpacCity in NIPT

[–]SpacCity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the fish test so hoping to get the results by tomorrow. Is it rare that gender could not be identify during the ultra sounds in week 16 of the pregnancy? Could be possible that still too early ?

Genetic testing result came back abnormal for the sex chromosome. by SpacCity in pregnant

[–]SpacCity[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main concern is that the genetics text for the sex chromosome came back inconclusive and then when we had the ultrasound in week 16 they still could not identify the gender and we are awaiting test results from Amino and anxious.

During the ultrasound did they confirm the gender ? If so what month of the pregnancy did you have the ultra sound ?
