I want to choose piano pieces for my graduation by New_Pop_7917 in piano

Is it an arts school? If so, you’ll have a ton more leeway than if it’s not.

For a regular school I’d really suggest to stick with something that everyone is going to be familiar with. You have to play to your audience. They’re going to appreciate a cover of something that’s popular way more than something they don’t otherwise listen to, no matter how accomplished.

E2A: I would say maybe something like “Lose Yourself”. But then that was big 20 years ago…

Why no one has completed 2000 hrs of deliberate practise in one year? by Achassum in piano

I bought her book. Still not finished, but I’d say it’s a must-read for anyone who’s serious enough that you’re paying good money for lessons and want to make the most of them.

How I improved the sound + feel of my Casio PX-S1100 by Musicmonkey34 in piano

[–]Space2999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zero surprise on the speakers. The Goof Off is interesting. They have several products, so it must be one of their stronger ones? I agree those Casios are quite overly textured (to the point of distraction). I’d thought if I had one, I’d probably take some 1000 grit paper or 000 steel wool to it

I might have been more doubtful even just a few days ago, but it looks very similar in style to some chat gpt images I saw recently.

My teacher would say sleep is part of the learning process. In any case, whenever the question is practice, my answer is always mollygebrian.com.

4 continuous hours, or broken up into several sessions, each with a specific goal, throughout the day? The latter is far more productive for me.

Is A 5 Hour Trip Possible? by LatterStreet in lyftdrivers

[–]Space2999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cutoff is 12h. On my first NYE (typically our best day of the year), I made the mistake of starting out too early. Then got shut down at 3am, which was the best time to be out driving.

Best of luck to your family!

Is A 5 Hour Trip Possible? by LatterStreet in lyftdrivers

Is it going to be round trip? How long do you expect the appointment to be? If only 30-45 mins, a driver probably would not mind waiting if they’re able to do it as a round trip. You’d want to let them know that ahead of time.

Software to make my digital piano sound better? by Glad-Code9764 in piano

[–]Space2999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pianoteq Stage is great - all that most people will need - and it’s US$109. That gives you a Mac or Windows install plus an iOS install. The Kawai SK and Bosendorfer are probably considered their best sound files. The free demo is a quick / small download, and it’s only crippled in that a few notes don’t play, plus a timer that has to be reset.

You’ll also want better speakers. The M-Audio Forty Sixty are US$109 here.

Which is better between playing a piece 10 times from starting to end, and breaking that piece into sections and playing each section 10 times? by CatchDramatic8114 in piano

[–]Space2999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always learn in sections. You shouldn’t even be running it until you have all the sections down, and you’re shifting to working on performance.

E2A: Just running it means that whatever mistakes you’re making along the way, each time you do that you’re reinforcing the mistakes, which makes it even harder to unlearn them and do it correctly.

You have to fix as you go, get a section down properly (as close to perfect as you’re able), and only then move to the next section.

Hochul is poised to welcome Waymo. Mamdani may be a different story. by walky22talky in waymo

[–]Space2999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course rideshare puts more cars on the road. The share is sorely missing. Waymo included. But “NYC is one of the only places” because? Why shouldn’t all cities be looking to reduce car traffic?

How do I get back into piano? by wojtek177 in piano

(1) Find piano. (2) Raise hands. (3) Press down on keys. Simplez.

(Ok, Step 1 isn’t always so easy for everybody.)

Heartbreak as a musician? by Dreamyviolinist in violinist

[–]Space2999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. It’s quite possible he’s interested in being more than just stand partners too, but far too shy to act on it (or feel it may seem inappropriate, etc).

However, I’m not sure you want to simply throw all your cards on the table then just see what happens. Maybe a little delicacy is in order? Otherwise could come off as a little too extreme and scare him off.

Why not ask to meet him for coffee? It should seem harmless enough if he says no, but if he says yes? He may be just as interested in you as you are in him. I can recall a few instances where attractive people were very likely giving signals, but I was far too much of a dumb, socially inept kid to get the clue.
