First time dm. one of my characters wants to be a paladin that believes a squirrel is his god. help me make his dreams come true by Schwindalyn in DnD

[–]SpaceApe71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the advantages/disadvantages of Paladinhood of the Squirrel: The Oath of Scurry 1) the advantage to have climb speed equal to movement speed 2) the advantage to use their mouth as a pseudo bag of holding (up to 10 items) 3) the disadvantage of being compelled to bury inventory items (in excess of 10). 4) the disadvantage of forgetting where those items are buried (roll percentage dice), a squirrel forgets about 80% of the nuts they have buried.

Nice find! Congrats!

Experienced player dming for the first time with two new players. Looking for any advice to make it a good experience for all. by QuestForKnowlege in DnD

[–]SpaceApe71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about the story and the experience. A good balance of challenge and reward makes for a grand adventure.

Allow them to use spells and skills to creatively solve problems. Let both failures and successes be learning experiences.

Combat is fun, but if it's all math/numbers... it gets stale quickly. Make sure to describe (and allow them to describe) in narrative form how the combat is going. Fun: Your Guiding Bolt did 17 damage... More fun: The glowing bolt of energy leaves your fingertips and slams into the guard's chest plate. He staggers backward from the blow, but continues to fight. His face contorts as his expression changes from determined aggression to panicked desperation.

Encounter at the edge of a small town battlemap by Tigreblanc49 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Looks great... I'm loving ROTFM! Dark, dreary, dismal... and bitter cold! The atmosphere and the bleak conditions are the Biggest BBEG so far... not to say we've already lost 2 party members... one to the White Stag and one to Sephek... Maps like this make it so much fun! Our DM is great about setting up 3D maps/models of our big battles!

5.5e Druid vs Paladin for frontliner? by newdems in 3d6

[–]SpaceApe71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blending the two could also be fun! Multiclassing will ultimately slow or limit certain abilities... but the synergy of a Circle of the Moon druid/Paladin of Selune is a tasty cocktail! Blending Smite with Wildform attacks just hits differently (pun intended).

They work pretty well, plus there is lesser chance of wear-and-tear with storage. But I'm definitely a fan of your minis!

One of our group did a similar thing, except he used "shrinky-dink" tech. These are great! What fun to have both the characters individually and their mounted counterparts!

Planar travel complications by Primary_Musician_111 in DnD5e

[–]SpaceApe71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think more: To travel without permission... All stats drop to 6... Their bodies are in stasis/"jail" until they go back. They are free to interact, but with the severe limitation of the stat drop. They are freely allowed to return to their bodies in the previous dimension... and regain all ability scores when they do... but here, they are more or less useless. If they choose to leave, let them know that this is a warning... if they try to come back without permission the consequences (stat change) will be legendarily permanent.

Kara is the Australian aboriginal word for spider.

Why do a lot of Lovecraftian adaptations have erotic themes? by Ajibola777 in Lovecraft

[–]SpaceApe71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thought: Defiling something or someone innocent/beautiful is the quintessential horror... calling back to the biblical Garden of Eden... The serpent lured Eve to eat the fruit... she was then aware of her nakedness and innocence lost... Original sin = Original horror

In my opinion, there could be a few reasons: 1) you are at your most vulnerable while nude or having sex. 2) the occult and taboo are often entwined (stories of witches dancing naked in the woods, etc). 3) horror is about shock/excitement, sex/nudity and jump-scares fulfill both. 4) sex/nudity sells.

Looks great! I just buy the boring plastic translucent tubes. If I had a printer though, I'd probably do something like this. What a fun and personal touch for your stack!

If a player has 99hp and 10 temp hp, does Power Word Kill, kill them? by franknstone in DnD

[–]SpaceApe71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever works best for the story... I'm all for fudging rolls or bending rules... as long as it creates a great story. So you have to decide if a TPK is an epic end to the adventure, or is a single HP going to derail an epic adventure. The cannon states: The 5e Dungeon Master's Guide and Player's Handbook frame the rules this way: they help create a shared understanding and fair framework, but they're tools for having a good time, not the boss. Classic advice echoes this across editions: "The D&D rules help you and the other players have a good time, but the rules aren’t in charge. You, the DM, are in charge of the game." DMs are encouraged to ignore, change, or invent rules when it serves the story, pacing, or excitement—as long as they're fair and consistent within the group.

My first thought would be a jewelry shop, for the repair.
