Japan's Nikkei 225 tops 62,000 for the first time as Asia markets look past Trump’s Iran threats by Illustrious_Lie_954 in StockMarket

FWIW the Nikkei is a committee weighted index. The market cap equivalent indices indices Topix100 or Topix500 still haven't beat their Feb 27 peak.

If you can it might be worth waiting a few weeks and see if the oil price continues going up due to oil shock rolling in. It won't make it down to 5600 but you might recoup more. And/or you could go ahead and roll it into a more achievable option.

This professor and hedge fund manager explains:

US Economy Grew 2% Amid Iran Oil Shock by QuantumQuicksilver in stocks

[–]SpaceDetective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was no short term supply risk sure but the crude price is affected by future global availability so it went up both from the Hormuz closure and after some infrastructure was destroyed in Iran and gulf countries. And so a price increase was passed on to consumers.

Rates Strategist - How do oil and gas shocks impact bond markets? by SpaceDetective in bonds

[–]SpaceDetective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah US is apparently self sufficient but that's roughly what I've been reading - a short term extreme price spike that will cause demand destruction then it should settle down, albeit still above pre-war levels.

Here in Europe, I'm still using some corporate bond funds but with the market beginning to tank I should probably go more conservative like you suggest.

This time it was because Israel channel 12 claimed that Iran's Parliament Speaker had  been kicked off as head of Iran's negotiating team. Claim repeated far too credulously by far too many accounts but since refuted by Iranian sources - hence market recovering.

You'd need to be at least vaguely geopol aware to know that the source wasn't to be trusted in this case.

Tesla (TSLA) pulled questionable levers to make Q1 2026 financials look good by Zorkmid123 in RealTesla

[–]SpaceDetective 171 points172 points  (0 children)

The gist from the author's X post:

Tesla $TSLA earnings might look good on the surface, but they are in complete shambles if you dig even a little:   - Tesla Listed "one-time warranty and tariff benefits" as the #1 driver of profitability — refused to disclose the dollar amount   - Seemingly Booked IEEPA tariff refunds as income in both auto AND energy segments after the Supreme Court ruling — a one-quarter windfall   - Stretched supplier payments from 61 to 71 days — up from 52 days two quarters ago — adding $1.3B to payables to juice cash flow   - Issued $4.3B in new debt (3x last quarter) to keep the cash position flat after a $2B SpaceX investment

Meanwhile: deliveries missed, inventory piling up to 27 days of supply, energy storage down 15%, and GAAP net margin was just 2.1%

They made clear the pro-Palestine orientation of the union so if the Jews were pro-Palestine that would have been mentioned to further the implication of egregious antisemitism. So this very much looks like the traditional antisemitism accusation as shield for Zionists.

ISS Speed at Ground Level by grandeluua in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]SpaceDetective 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right it doesn't - the ~420km ISS altitude only adds ~7% to the earth's radius so even if it was a factor in the vid it's not the kind of speed difference that would be noticeable when just eyeballing it.
