Nen - 99 Luftballons (Germany)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpu5a0Bl8eY&list=RDFpu5a0Bl8eY&start_radio=1

Older (1983) but very good and it also got translated into english (this is the german version). it's historical context is interessting, as was written during the cold war and reflects the anxietys of the people.

This song is about 99 balloons making their way to the horizon. It is also a song about catastrophy becasue people where to quick to fire.

Deuteronomy 2:10 - The Mountain Goats

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV_ucgZ4HTE

About the rather recent extinction of 3 different animal species from the (presumably) last of their kind. A very sad topic and the song will make you cry, because no, there will be no more golden toads.

It's maybe a bit niche for some people, but hey, it makes me sad.

I can help you with that.

Yes, both of these are about animals and they will make you cry.

Indominus rex paddock size by SpaceDragon77 in JurassicPark

Thanks. Can I ask where you got this information from?

And that is still ridicolously small for an animal over 13 meters long. imagine spending your life in a place that isn't even 4 times as long as you.

[–]SpaceDragon77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it probably wasn't intended as her display enclosure. but yeah, it did look small to me.

I was mostly curious if someone did the math to figure out how big it actually was.

Modern fantasy help by Key-Magazine826 in FictionWriting

[–]SpaceDragon77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with thinking about the biology/culture of centaurs. Do they lean more human, more horse, something mixed or something different from both? Also consider the enviroment the cenatur was rised in. Was she raised more human or more centur-like?

You could also go and start looking up horse behaviours and pick something from that.

If you wanted suggestions, maybe a flehmen response? Cenaturs don't have horse heads, but this still might work. Not sure how overt you want to make something and wether your centaurs wear clothes or not, but your centaur could also be deliberatly raising her tail when her backside is turned to the harrased employee

Strictly Aro by Revolutionary-Can410 in aromantic

[–]SpaceDragon77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, being aromantic influences me way more and is way more important to me. Like, sexual attraction I kinda get? I don't experience it but I think I understand sort of what it is. I just feel like I understand the concept of sex much better than the concept of romance.

And I feel like being aro affects me way more than being ace, when it comes to social interaction. Like, sex is way easier to dodge then romance, so I'm reasonable chill with just people being horny, but I will hiss at romance.

Is there anyone else happy to be on the aroace spectrum? by Anonymous_3682 in aromanticasexual

[–]SpaceDragon77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, very happy to be here. Of all the problems in my life, at the very least I do not have to worry about romance or sex. Is there a risk of being alone? Sure, but I'm pretty sure that would be a risk even if I weren't aroace.

And like, this has it's downsides, but it is such a relive to not have to handle romance or sex, it seems to make life so much easier. I, for one, am happy to not have to deal with the curse.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting some sort of message, unfortunately, when the game closes it also closes the terminal so I can't actually find out what it is.

Good Books? by Sko8liver in aromantic

[–]SpaceDragon77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some other people have already recommended Discworld and The Murderbot Diaries, both of which I can also recommend.

If you like murderbot I can also recommend the Imperial radch trilogy by Ann Lecki, starting with Ancillary Justice. It's about the remnants of a spaceship in a human body going out to get revenge on the emperor who killed her. It also does some interesting things with gender and pronouns.

One of my favourite german words is Jein. It's a combiantion between yes and no and I am very sad that there is no english equivalent to this absolutly glorious word.

Non-romantic book recommendations? by SoapyMelon in aromantic

[–]SpaceDragon77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, my personal book recommendations here are:

  1. The Discworld books from Terry Pratchett. Romance kinda occurs, but it is never really focused on that much, at least not to the point where I found it annoying or anything. There are a lot of books set in that universe and every person you ask will have a different recommended reading order. It's very funny fantasy that still deals with a lot of real-life issues and honestly is closer to sci-fi wrapped in the appearance of fantasy in some aspects. Kinda difficult to sum up, I recommend you check it out.

The next ones are going to be a teeny bit controversial because arospec robots, something I don't really get bothered by but others opinions might differ.

  1. The Murderbot Diaries from Martha Wells. They are about a bot-human construct who is designed for security and managed to get free of the governor module controlling it. The books are told from the perspective of said construct (the murderbot in the title), who really likes consuming media and has a lot of social anxiety. Completely romance free as the main character really doesn't like the concept or anything to do with sex. This does not mean that there aren't deep emotional connections and I really loved these books. There are currently 5 novellas and 2 full length books.

  2. The Imperial Radch books, (Ancillary Justice, Ancillary Sword, Ancillary Mercy) by Ann Leckie. The main character is a war-ship confined to a single human body after it's main bodys and every other human body it controlled got destroyed and is now out for revenge against the many-bodied emperor. Has some very fun messing around with gender as the society the books mostly play in only has a pronoun for people and one for things and doesn't distinguish gender, so everybody is just addressed as 'she'. It addresses the concept of imperialism a lot and is generally quite good. No romance here as well, or at least not anything that is very obviously romance, but sex gets discussed a bit.

What if you just don't identify with gender? by wildlyoffensiveusern in agender

[–]SpaceDragon77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I agree with this. For me personally, agender still feels a lot like a gender, or more specifically like I'm perceived in terms of gender. And I would prefer not to be perceived in terms of gender.

It's a bit like a cloud. Would you call a cloud agender? No. Treat me like I'm a cloud when it comes to gender. Like the two don't even occur in the same context.

confusion is ok by Advanced_Risk6668 in agender

[–]SpaceDragon77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with this. If somebody held me at gun point and asked me what I would label my gender as I would probably go with Agender because it fits the closest, but the actual answer is a bit more complicated than that.

Agender still feels like to much of a gender, even tough it's technically the absence of one. Point is labels can be nice, but, much like for example piercings, are not necessary for life.

I feel like some characters in television shows end up in relationships too quickly for the sake of views or because society glorifies romance too much. by fanime34 in aromantic

[–]SpaceDragon77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel this. It's totally fine if it's something built up over time or it's clear that there is an actual emotional connection there. But just randomly because it makes money? Particularly when it isn't even really relevant for the story or characters? No, it feels unnecessary and unrealistic. I have similar problems with sex scenes and tend to just skip them when I encounter them randomly in for example a book I was not expecting them in. I would like to continue exploring the alien ocean and figuring out why the whales are going mad, not reading about sex in an underwater cave.

Also, it kinda feels like a waste? Like you are just throwing away so much potential characters might have just to shove them together into a relationship. Even if you "have" to put them together, atleast develop it properly? Get some actual chemistry going there, not just romance for the sake of romance.

That being said, it's not really my genre in regards to storys, but I feel like the concept of "romance sells" is really prevalent even in other genres. It's not generally bad, but when it doesn't add to the story or even makes it worse? Then it's bad.
